WAMT....what annoyed me today!

The bad driver sees someone driving according to the road as dawdling. The good driver simply accepts that the driver in front sees more than himself.

If there is a situational hazard to make someone drive slowly, it will pass and they will drive normally again further down the road.

Don't get me wrong, I get frustrated on some of my local NSL roads because some people insist on driving at 35-40mph. Which is fine for them, but not the majority of drivers. We have a particular piece of road that is straight for about a mile, but they still stick to no more than 40mph, and seem to be "surprised" when I indicate, and go past at 55. All I can assume is that they lack confidence.... But I don't sit up their backside a couple of feet off of their bumper....

and seem to be "surprised" when I indicate, and go past at 55.
They also, around here at least, flash their lights, blow their horn and extend their middle digit.
Even though it was a perfectly safe manoeuvre.
I guess at the speed my car can accelerate, scares the crap out of them / woke them from their daydream

It's not the ones that sit at 40-50 that annoy me it's the ones that sit at that speed when you can't overtake i.e. twisty road or oncoming traffic but speed up to 60+ when the road is clear to do so and around my area they seem to be multiplying.

I get annoyed at the drivers who drive at 30 in the NSL zone on our country roads, but then speed up to 40+ in the 30 limit in our village, what is that all about? They are the really bad/dangerous drivers.

There seem to be some who set their cruise control to 40 all the way between here and Mrs Nod's Mum's house. Including the 3 villages with their 30 limits. They're the ones who set of across Bickleigh Bridge when there's a lorry half way across it too...

Round here they'll race you, especially if there's something coming the other way. If I overtake then It requires space and planning to make sure they can't force me into oncoming traffic.

Which is the correct way to drive. You cannot predict what hazard they may see that you cannot.

Most of them don't have the power to race me... A Nissan Micra or Honda Jazz Vs my modded JCW isn't really a contest ;)

During the summer I've sat behind drivers here on the Isle of Wight who do 30 on the 60mph rural roads and then speed up to 35 in the 30mph areas. Somehow they feel safer with buildings around them.

I had the same lane swimming at my local pool last week  Every time I tried to overtake this big bloke, he'd speed up and move across forcing me into oncoming swimmers - I'd just watched the F1 on the TV and he was like Verstappen

The Virgin engineer was suppose to be here between 08:00 and 12:00 and it's now 13:30 and no sign.

Deep sigh.

At least I can claim a refund for loss of service.

There is your problem right there ;)
Curiously I had a BT engineer booked between 1 & 6 today, She text at 1pm to say she would be there at 1:15.
She arrived bang on the button. Spent about an hour sorting the outside fault. Water in damaged copper cables again  :)

I mind seeing a video on Tiktok showing a police X5 going to overtake and he moved out but sat there for a second or two before he actually moved forward to overtake.

Lots of comments slating them for hesitating but a few pointed out that this was actually the correct thing to do so that they could see the road ahead before committing.

The massive B end driving in the middle lane of the motorway, they looked like they were gripping the steering wheel so tight, that only Ben Hur in a chariot colliding with them would get them to move over.

My neighbour's dogs again. They leave them shut out for hours on end in warmer weather and they bark at everything. They're often left shut in for hours instead.

I'm wondering how I could hack their ring doorbell to alert them each time the dogs bark so they'd learn not be such appalling dog owners. They've gone off on holiday and just left the dogs with I assume one of the kids with the odd visit by relations. Says it all as they won't even take the dogs with them on a caravan holiday!

We once had some neighbours like this who left their dogs out often at night as well even when frosty so we contacted the RSPCA who were not interested. The problems continued for several more months then removal vans arrived and it soon became apparent that this awful couple were splitting up. They left the dogs but this time the RSPCA did come and collect them. They should have been prosecuted for cruelty but the street were just glad to see them go.

They've shoved the dogs out since the gate went up the first year they were here. 2 years later and they don't seem to be showing signs of leaving.

I used to have 4 dogs and they had the run of both the house and garden most of the time, in summer we never shut the back doors, no one attempted to come in ;)
I had a neighbour knock on the door on day and ask me to keep them quiet, they hadn't even barked when the door was knocked  Bearing in mind they were 4 dogs with deep barks and it was a yappy little terrier behind me that was barking.
The time that made me laugh most was when I arrived home from a walk with all 4 dogs in the car and another neighbour came out and complained they had been howling whle I was out.
Their face was a picture when they realised I'd had the dogs with me.

Just Virgin customer service.

We have a faulty TV box. During the initial on line chat everything seemed to be pretty painless if time consuming and annoying as I had to chat to the bot before a human got involved and I was told the engineer would come 08:00-12:00 on Thursday. When no one turned up I logged on to see the time was 0:0-0:0 and guess what? No one came. So on Thurday evening I logged on to the chat again and was told the engineer would come early today (Friday) but when I logged on this morning there's no record of a booked visit at all. During the ensuing on line chat I'm told something went wrong. You Think? So, engineer now booked for next Tuesday. 08:00-12:00. Oh yeah? We'll see.

One annoying thing is that they kept asking for security details despite the full record of the on line chat and the already answered security questions being visible. I had the booking reference number and I'd posted it multiple times in the chat and all I wanted to know was when the engineer would come yet I had to go through security multiple times as they passed me from bot to human to human who would then at some random point in the conversation suddenly ask for more security questions to be answered.

They really are an awful company to deal with but I do think they're no worse than anyone else with very high numbers of customers. I think they're all usually terrible and we're lucky really if any interaction goes well. I think this is just a symptom and the culture of companies that are too big to notice the service individual customers receive.

At least I got to take part in multiple satisfaction surveys, but really, will anyone even look at them? Will anyone act on them? Of course not but filling them in and giving them zero in every category gives some sense of satisfaction.

PS.
My Gosh.
I've just checked on line in "Your Appointment" and they now say the engineer is due on Tuesday between 12:00 and 16:00. This is after they told me 08:00-12:00 in the chat. Oh well. What did I expect?

I'll look forward to providing more feedback.

:D

Just got a txt from them today at 11:42 stating the engineer will be here 6th (yesterday) between 08:00 and 12:00. Absolutely clueless :D

That does remind me of fun and games my parents used to have with my brother who was picked on a lot. Some of the other local children used to lie to their parents that he had been shouting , throwing stones biting etc just to watch their parents march up to the door and complain, whilst adamant their children where angels who could do no wrong and would never lie to them.

The pleasure my mum had the day she had to explain to the vigilante army that had appeared that my brother had gone on holiday for a week with my sister four days earlier, was 200 miles away and couldn’t have been throwing punches at their darlings was glorious.

I had next to no trouble with the local bullies, on account of my sister,

Six years older than me, slightly built and with a face described, by many misguided adults, as "angelic", she had a right hook that was murderous and a kick that few people ever wanted to experience a second time. It wasn't as if we were doting siblings or even did much more than tolerate one another. Many decades later she admitted that she would gladly have left me to my fate. Her problem was that she was brainwashed, from the moment of my birth, with the notion that it was her duty to look after me.
It was easier for her to fight the bullies than the conditioning! :tumbleweed:

It's dreadful that people should be allowed time off over a bank holiday weekend. How could anybody be expected to plan in advance for their shopping, knowing that supermarkets are normally closed Easter Sunday. Write to your MP!

Sunday closing and half day Wednesdays, life was much simpler then.

If you knew, why didn't you ensure you had enough supplies in?

I knew after the fact..my wife told me. I thought their hours were restricted not closed all day. She did go to a local garage where there's an M&S but no eggs and they don't sell veg. There seems to be a shortage of eggs again.

I just wrote.."and we all know why" because I didn't want to go into a polemic on who is behind the Sunday trading laws..and I won't but it's an outrage in 21st century secular Britain..

It's not about time off, Toni..and you well know it.

It's about 'the why' of it. As per my previous response to Rich. As I said I thought the hours were restricted to 10.00am to 4.00pm and at the behest of the Church. ..in England and Wales but not Scotland. I assume Jesus means the same to those who subscribe to the church in Scotland. ? ..Well, I can tell you he does mean the same to them. Crucification and ascension et al. To add to my anger I read, yesterday, that the Archbishop of Canterbury, the top man who deems that we should keep this anachronistic tradition going in what is considered to be the world's most secular country..bar, maybe Scandinavian countries, takes anti-depressant tablets. He's recently told worshippers that the medication he takes plays an important role in managing his life Ie..he's dependent on them to lead a normal life. .He went on to say " The psychiatrist I see... ..tells me that the aim is not to make me so laid back that I'm horizontal but just to settle me enough that I react like a normal human being" He also said. "despair is a deeply human emotion and warned that a society without God (a god..he means) is a society for which despair becomes the only way forward." . I despair at the idiocy of those kind of statements and coming from someone who suffers depression to the extent that he requires the services of a psychaitrist just makes it even less palatable than it already is.

Fair play to him though. He also went on to say." A world view without God (a god) may still enable a person to act well in love, mercy and justice." That's very decent of him. I just take exception to the 'may' bit .

Shops are ony closed for 2 days every year, Christmas day and Easter Sunday, even then many "corner shops" still open at some time during the day.
How did we ever manage when they closed for Christmas day and Boxing day and the Good Friday, Easter sunday and Easter Mondayand every other bank holiday !
It never ceases to amaze me how shops can be so busy just before these hols, especially christmas and then packed again immediately after.
I absolutely hate shopping and town centres so plan ahead to avoid going, always try to avoid weekends, my supermarlkt shoping consist of a 30 mins dash round, get what I need and home, things like eggs, vegs etc I go to a local farm shop, much nicer

Agree, it seems amazing/ridiculous/idiotic the way some behave around Christmas. I think the jokey comment sums it up well - "Remember the shops are close for one day over Christmas so make sure you buy enough food for three weeks"

We avoid shopping(as in going to shops) as much as possible. Our groceries are delivered and we VERY rarely have any problem, though we are retired so can arrange to be in at any time on the delivery day so if the delivery is a bit early or late it doesn't matter. I can live without pushing a full trolley around a supermarket.

I agree, we have been using online shopping for years and certainly beats visiting the supermarket.
We do also use a free range egg farm, a local grower for spuds and a butchers shop in a nearby village.

I won't say exactly what I think of you and your rant here John, because it would get me a ban. Your hatred of faith has blinded you to your selfishness and demand for personal satisfaction regardless of the cost to others. Yes, there's a religious origin to the holiday, but now it's just a holiday - like Bastille Day in France - where people have time off together.

WAMT? You.

Back in the mist of time, when I was a lad local shop closed at 12 on Saturday
all shops closed during wakes week in June

I am as atheist as they come and personally I feel that both the Sunday trading laws and the enforced closures for a couple of days a year are a good antidote to the religion of unfettered capitalism….

Mind you round here all the local supermarkets seem to have used covid as an excuse to end 24 hour opening, and then quietly not started again so maybe people these days are becoming less needy and disorganised???
