WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Glad you're sorted now, Marc. Have you now got your license back or have you had to reapply?
They sent an email to the DVLA this afternoon explaining the error. Hopefully it just means updating their records and getting the license done and sent to me. I'll give them a call in a couple of days and see if I can at least go back to driving under section 88.

:fingerscrossed:!

Six items posted through my letter box by the Royal Mail. One letter for me and five lots of junk mail.

When I get junk mail I mix up the flyers and post them back in each other’s pre paid envelopes!

I fold the contents so they become a large letter rather than a standard one.

couldn't find something I NEEDED

Had to have a new toilet fitted a couple of weeks ago.

Now I need to have the bathroom carpet replaced - the old one was removed with the old toilet. Wen to get my big Tape to measure the floor [ just the bare floorboards there at present ] and of course it's missing :(

Now this is not a wee fit it in your pocket thing - it's a proper 'workman's' type thing , bought by my husband some many many years ago [ he's been dead for 14 years]. Sooo I went into my back corridor where screwdrivers etc etc are - NO TAPE !! Had a good rummage around - nowhere to be seen :(

Eventually had to use my "Reader's Digest tape' a metal one. Considering I have arthritic knees getting down low to use this was not easy but I finally managed it . Now which of my male friends has borrowed this and it's found a new home ? Grrrrrrh

What annoys me, all the time, is low level trolling.

There are some very gifted practioners, always ready to be nasty when they think they can "score a point". Thank heavens for the "Ignore" button. The trolls can be as unpleasant as they wish but those they are targeting won't even know about it. :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

Sainsburys scan as you shop checkout assistant.
Finished shopping and headed for the tills, one empty one was showing a multi [ack coca cola at £4,80, expalins why it
wasn't being used.
As I went to move away and assistant came over and asked what the problem was. told her to look at the screen,
She then asked if I scanned my items, yes but I couldn't scan a q-code as there wasnt one and the item showing wasn't mine
She then tried to take the scanner from me saying lets try and see, wouldn't let her have it, said I would go to another checkout, told me I couldn't just leave that one with an unpaid item despite me saying it was nothing to do with me.
At that stage I started to unpack the bags into the trolley and told her she could keep it including the cola that I didn't have :headbang:
She fiinally realised what I was saying and cleared it, and walked away

Called the DVLA today and was told it can take up to 10 working days to appear on their system so I've got to phone them back in 2 weeks!

Let me know who they are and I'll be sure to quote them so you don't miss out :p

And that's another reason I hate these self service check outs :(

I sent an item RMSD and it arrived at the local delivery office this morning at approx 6am.
Never went out for delivery, presumably just couldn't be bothered.
I'm usually quite tolerant with this sort of thing, but feel like they are just saying up yours.

Now says Item Retention at 12.36am and no its not at the customers request.
Obviously Royal Mail speak for b*****ks, we couldn't give a toss.

James Martin blathering evrything with "handfuls" of butter, wiping his butter laden hands on a tea cloth and then "cleaning" the surfaces with the same tea cloth. Has he not seen the price of butter these days? He has a pound of it blathered all over the tea towel!

It certainly explains his issue with loosing the ability to see his feet, cholesterol must be horrendous. I prefer a simpler approach to cooking but even my go to celeb chef loves to drown everything in EXTRA virgin olive oil.

...and while I'm being annoyed - the use of that ghastly Americanism "gifted". :headbang:

The word is either "gave" as in "She gave her books to the charity shop" or "given" as in "I was given a Leica M12 yesterday". :naughty:

But if it was given as a gift, it was gifted. <past tense> :D

If you really want one, people on FB ( mostly) referring to a cat or dog as a "Fur baby"

There are times when one is tempted to deliver a swift kick to the posterior... :coat:

WAMT Insurance companies......

We had our garage wall (brick built, attached to the house) damaged by tree roots 27 years ago. The trees were removed, the wall repaired and we have never had any more problems.

Despite this most insurance companies don't want to know when it comes to giving insurance quotes....tick the box which says there has been subsidence damage & its no quote time.....

The word gifted in relateion to charity shops is to do with "Gift Aid"
You can sign up to it which allows the charity to claim an wxtra 25% on top of the ticket pricef from the tax office
Donated means they just get what ever price is on the sale ticket when it's sold

F***wits at the pharmacy. NOT the staff (who were doing their best) but the customers.

The word "gifted" is an adjective: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/gifted

The associated verbs are "give", "given" or "gave", as in...
  • I will give you this camera
  • I was given this camera
  • I gave that camera away
The sentence "I gifted this to a charity shop" is a nonsense promulgated by idiots who can't even speak their native language properly.

Not that I mind at all... :naughty:

Off lead agressive dog snarling, growling and nipping at my legs.

Smiling owner - "Oh he doesn't like strangers."

Now THAT'S a f***wit.
Many years ago a colleague told me of an incident like that which happened to his sister, who's a police sergeant.

She was in civvies, her team having been mustered to help with a C.I.D. operation. Despite being asked politely to control the dog, the owner just grinned and said "He's only having a little fun". It seems that the happy chappie wasn't quite so happy after she produced her warrant card, then called over two of her people to "escort the gentleman away and make sure he's nothing to do with our suspects". ;)

If it is any help to you that situation has now changed. Last year we were able finally to move to a different insurance company at a lower price thought still probably 30% higher than it should be. My subsidence was caused by neighbours trees in the late 70's and we could not move insurance company until last year. What is even more annoying, we actually made no claim at the time. The insurance company employed the surveyors and the neighbours had to pay for their own tree cutting.

WAMT... people who dither at lights when turning right resulting in multiple cars behind getting stuck at the subsequent red. Very selfish.

The OED say that "Gift" is a verb as well as a noun.

I specified the OED, not the learners.

You are wrong.

In that sense, it IS an adjective.

Oops............... :$
Don't worry about it - you're no more wrong than others about this internet created confusion. ;)

Actually yesterday....

I had the windscreen replaced due to stone strike > bad cracking in January.

Yesterday I had two stone strikes, once on the outward journey & again on the way home

The first was merely 'feel it with your fingernail' sort of chip but the second was more marked with some star crazing. All booked in tomorrow for them to repair the chips :)

But Autoglass last time upsold their wipers replacement service, this time the upsell was a surface treatment that bonds to the screen and repels the water....@about £34 I declined :)

Gifted is used as a verb when describing someone with a particular talent who seemingly was born with that talent i.e. a Gifted artist/musician etc.

Just remember the basic English lessons back in school. Verbs are "doing" words.... You can't do "gifted", unless you say "I gifted her this", but that ain't proper English..... ;)

Hmm, school was a long time ago for me Steve and I recall wagging more days than I should to be out in the woods/countryside. (Wagging-taking an unauthorised day off without the knowledge or permission of parents). I was only interested in Maths and Science as I wanted to be an engineer (and was eventually, a gifted one). :giggle:
