WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Very annoyed the goth music festival in Leeds we was going to go to in a couple of weeks has been cancelled apparently due to logistical problems for bands to travel into the UK, several of the bands are German

Really? What will these logistical problems do for Eurovision I wonder?

Yeah I know it’s crap especially annoying as they left it to the last minute to cancel it
We had booked hotel and train tickets and a lot of people would have traveled from Europe especially Germany

I can't imagine what the problem is unless it's more a case of looking for a problem to justify a decision already made.

Yes I would have thought about the problems with airports here have been known about for a while , I’m wondering if there’s something else going on with festivals generally as another local festival we were due to go to has been cancelled, Rock the Park and that was UK based bands anyway the organisers for that blamed the local council but in fact the organisers just hadn’t planned properly for the numbers of people, the site wasn’t suitable
At least for the Leeds festival we were able to get refunds for hotel and train tickets

Various couples spreading themselves over the supermarket aisles, she on one side and he (with the trolley at 45 degrees) blocking the rest of the aisle! Not once, not twice but three times before I snapped and suggested that they shop "in a straight line, to avoid blocking the aisle, for folks who do know what they want and where to go!" .......... and breathe!

WAMT. A cyclist riding along and on the phone.

"Twit" seems too mild a word.

Come to the Reading area and see two or three in a 15 minute trip. There is also a another variety, riding with their hands hanging down instead of on the handlebars.

I heard a little while back that European bands are having problems coming here because they can get through customs and immigration in a few hours, but their gear truck gets held up in a customs queue for a week.

Ahh I see thanks that explains it
I have heard that it’s a nightmare for British bands to work/do concerts in Europe now

Yep the gift that keeps on giving

And the subject some just keep on mentioning and the people complaining are usually wrong and just haven't done their homework. There'll be a page about it on the gov website.

Other than that can't we leave the constant Brexit bashing to the dedicated threads?

I take your point that Brexit is a Hot Topic 'subject' but when a matter that crops up in WAMT has a synergistic relationship with the outcome of the UK leaving the EU and it's various trade arrangements cannot IMO be WAMT discussed in isolation.

It would be nice but some people just have to mention it at every opportunity.
Although so far it's innocent of the hot weather (y)

Sorry I just got annoyed and frustrated we had been looking forward to the Leeds event for ages , in fact we booked for this year while we’re at last years festival

Car insurance renewal... that old chestnut!

Same company is 50% more expensive this year than last. 9 years NCD, clean licence, etc. No changes to last year.
Going to ring them tomorrow and see what the score is. Comparison sites are all similar to my price from last year so looks like I might be switching insurers (again)

I too have had my reminder and will be phoning before the renewal date. But unlike your quote mine has gone up 15.3% so not as huge an increase as yours. I hope they will at least drop the increase to <10%

PS and a similar profile as you.

With a drought being announced this morning in the West country, this afternoon one neighbour filled a paddling pool for kids for a family barbeque then when they'd finished he just tipped it on the ground and a neighbour on the other side got out his hosepipe and washed two cars. People are so irresponsible, they just don't give a sH1T.

I was most surprised last month when my van insurance came along and without any prompting it had gone down by eight pounds from last year! Result.

FYI: I am with Direct Line.

If there is a ban, is there also an anonymous 'dobbing in' number;)

I've no idea, I'll check, but without video evidence I can't see anything can be done. These things rely on people's sense of integrity, a sense that appears to be becoming atrophied in most people.

This and sadly in more ways that inconsiderate and anti social attitudes express themselves in other ways too ...... :(

Outdoor live "entertainment" at the local pub a quarter of a mile away, on full volume. Even the drummer has mikes and is amplified. Why??? Wail, wail, thump, thump!

You have my sympathy.

There's little that's more infuriating than other peoples' noise! :grumpy:

Obviously(?) windows open overnight now......

B***dy neighbours talking loudly in the street at 7am this morning when I am still trying to sleep after a heat affected disturbed night :(

My daughter phoned me this morning to say her water has been turned off, they can collect free bottles water from one place
which is of course overwhelmed so she's gone elsewhere to buy some
Mentioned it to a neighbour who always uses the hosepipe to water the gardens
Oh, she commented I didn't realise there was a water shortage !!!!
I said to her that if people keep wasting water watering, car washing etc. there will soon be.
Didn't mention that my daughter doesn't live locally but it just shows how people aren't considering what lies ahead

Big wildfire yesterday on Studland Heath in Dorset - a vitaly important site for rare/endangered species and an SSSI. The fire service found the remains of a disposable bbq. They can't prove anything of course but 2 + 2 usually = 4. A spokesperson said 'there can't be many people left in Britain who don't know the current advice on disposable bbqs'. Surely unless they've had their heads buried there can't be anyone who doesn't know? They know, but they just don't care. 'Common sense' and 'education' is talked about but they don't have the former and the latter is way over their heads. And then of course it's always someone elses's fault......
Rant over. And.................breathe..............

I think the comment from your neighbour sums up some folks - they pay little attention to what is happening, unless it is on a inconsequential part of social media.
I saw a news item this morning about the rail strikes. The reporter was at Euston station and said some people were turning up there because they hadn't heard there was a rail strike!

Dave

PS Thames Water has announced this week it would be bringing in a hosepipe ban "in the coming weeks". In the coming weeks!! Why not now for goodness sake?

I know it well :(
We too have had / still getting fires, and one also on a SSSI, but a much smaller site than Studland

The fire service found the remains of a disposable bbq.
The Parks Trust, banned BBQ's from all their sites ( they manage the ( not so at the moment) green spaces here)) but people are taking little or no notice.
There was also a suggestion of discarded bottle starting fires due to magnifying the sun.
Some people are just down right irresponsible, what ever the cause!

We've had a field fire here :(

Some muppets have peeled the bark off of an old Yew tree too, it's been skinned 360 degrees, so will now die, they tried to use the bark to light a fire in the very dry woodland ... not for the first time, I had to put a fire out last year, that got too big for them, so they just ran and left it :(

I think Asda are one of the few supermarkets still selling disposable BBQs. The local panorama viewpoint used to have benches and picnic tables but they all ended up burned by the bloody things.

Yet more inconsiderate idiocy:(

IMO it is about time that all retailers remove disposable BBQs from sale.....and to help educate the 'hard of understanding" put up signs in their stores and online stating the reason and risk & inferred cause due to some folk causing fires by their usage!!!

PS there used to be some good done with Public Information Adverts.......but of late e.g. the new Highway Code change(s), water usage and now fire risk issues. There is silence by the Government....no we don't need a nanny state but as I say some good is done by telling folk what they should know already/by now!

There was an interesting interview with someone from one of the water companies on R4 in the week. He talked about everyone's favourite excuse - if the water companies can't fix the leaks why should I save water? Leaks just happen. The pipes are rigid, the ground isn't. They're not the same leaks all the time, they are constantly finding new ones and fixing them. He also said that now that so many properties are on water meters they're not as quick to impose hosepipe bans when they can leave it a bit longer, because their customers using less water means less money to the water companies, less money to fix leaks and replace aging infrastructure............. And of course no-one wants new reservoirs built, do they? Just like everyone wants a house for them/their offspring to live in but no-one wants new houses built.

We have 3 ( reported on FB) locally, they have been running for a couple of weeks now, most just running not spouting, but the latest one
has caused a flood outside ASDA and shut part of the road.
I wonder if they will sort that one ?

Multiple burst water mains are blocking a section of Bletcham Way in Milton Keynes today.
The burst mains are between the junctions with Watling Street at the Granby Roundabout and Saxon Street at the Denbigh Roundabout.
Ringway MK are reporting that the northbound carriageway of Bletcham Way has now been closed to all traffic.
The affected section of road is home to the main entrances to both Asda and Ikea in Bletchley.

The pipes are rigid, the ground isn't.
...and, of course, no-one has ever invented strong, flexible, water proof materials from which pipes could be made...

...oh! wait a minute! :tumbleweed:
