WAMT....what annoyed me today!

I don't have Amazon Prime as it wouldn't be cost effective for me, however, my neighbour and good friend does, so if I need anything in a hurry that I can't get elsewhere then I know he'll kindly order it for me. I don't buy much from Amazon these days but, when I do, I usually find they deliver it quicker than they say, sometimes next day, even with the standard 'non Prime' free over £20 delivery service.

You‘ve probably noticed that “free” delivery is a concession or promotion (can’t remember what it’s called) and is charged and refunded on the bill :(.

"Free" delivery is on orders sold by and/or fulfilled by Amazon totalling £20 or more (for general goods) or £10 for books.

I use it of necessity. Why do I hate it? Wait until they have driven everyone out of business and then you will see ... :).
What about the companies that they've helped avoid going out of business?
Pretty much everything I buy apart from food and clothes is from Amazon...and a lot of that is from 3rd party sellers.

Like Mr Badger, I don't (usually!) have prime and given this performance, I won't be paying for it. As you say, stuff that's due in 2-3 days often arrives next day anyway so when something that was supposed to be next day isn't, it proves that prime isn't worth having.
I've never had anything that's was shown as next day delivery not delivered the next day.

That’s true but have you noticed that when 3rd parties sell something good Amazon starts selling something comparable & at a lower price? They have their cheap own brands too of course which are generally excellent in my experience.

I‘ve had stuff delivered, and then they say it’s delayed, and then they say it’s lost, and then refunded :).

50/50 chance of a "next day" actually happening. Around 20% of "normal" orders seem to arrive next day.

Yup. Only have prime when I balls up and miss one of the several opt outs when checking out (which always annoys me - it should be an effort to opt IN not OUT. :()

Do you live in the sticks, so to speak?

No, on the edge of the city - within a mile or so as the crow flies.

That's true re delivery because I've ordered items without paying for 'first class, next day or whatever and they've arrived next day sometimes or within 2 days and it's why I always choose 'within 5 days' especially prior to christmas as they want the warehouse space and delivery services want the items 'out' but my wife is signed up to Amazon Prime and thinks it's good value at £7.99 a month but it does depend on whether you're interested in the 'benefits'. As you probably know it's not just about 'next day delivery' . She tells me she gets free online magazines . That's the likes of Good Housekeeping (£4.90 in a shop) and Gardners World.,Recipe books..etc Unlimited photo storage using desktop-mobile and tablet .That's good. Free videos and she's just told me that I can watch "All or Nothing" the documentary about Spurs and the Queen film Bohemian Rhapsody. Now she tells me....lol. A free monthly book downloaded to her Kindle. Free access to 70 million songs ad-free.

I've just Googled it. I see paying annually is cheaper. I've just just told my wife..lol. She didn't know. £79 v £95.88.

If I want anything I just ask her to get it for me..it's very cost-effective that way..lol. I have to say that when she tells me that she needs this or that and it arrives the next day,I'm impressed. I can see it being a bit addictive for some, though. The 'I wannit now' brigade. :)

Money.co ran its eye over it.

Noted your 'opt-in/out post. Yes..it caught me out once too. Very annoying. It used to be easier to slip up and there was a lot of criticism so they were forced to make it clearer but as you've discovered, if you're a bit off the mark, under the weather on the day you order you can still end up with the 'free trial'.

An Edit. Something strange happened as I was writing this post and I got a rectangle of ..to me..unintelligible computer language. I've just seen that what I'd written at that time which made me have to start again, has shown so anyone reading this before my edit that's the reason for the duplicated paragraph at the end. It's why I don't have a very happy/harmonious relationship with my iMac. :)

For ME, the £79 is better spent on cider - probably a few years' worth!!! If I really need something FAST, I'll get it locally and pay the extra for the privilege.

It easy to make the mistake but strictly speaking it’s worth signing up for the free trial whenever they offer it because you can sign up and cancel next day (probably even immediately but I haven’t tried that) and you still get a month free with no worry about forgetting to cancel. That review at your link is wrong on that, saying “cancel the trial when it ends” but that would be too late!

Not so sure annoyed is quite the word, more amazed at this effort from Amazon via Hermes.
Could just about make out the address on the front, surprisingly the book inside looks ok.

I've had Prime for twelve or thirteen years now and I think it is remarkable value. I buy almost everything from Amazon and I never go to shops - far too many rude, ignorant and stupid people in them.

I like it for:
  • The fastest delivery (unless Hermes are involved).
  • Free music
  • Free films
  • Free TV programmes
  • Free delivery
  • Free photo storage
  • The BEST ever customer service
  • Almost always the best prices
All that for a whole year for the price of a meal and a few pints.

There is no equal.

Free? I think you mean pre-paid.

I did that,Richard. When I made the error I cancelled it and thereafter kept getting reminders that I had only so many days left. When the 28 days expired I got a reminder that I was about to lose all the benefits..lol. Infact,I haven't because, as I've mentioned, my wife is signed up.

There is a diference between Amazon Prime music which is circa 2millon songs and often only one or 2 from an album and Amazon Music with 70 million songs, Prime music you get with Prime membership, Amazon Music is an additional subscription. It has a better stream quality than spotify and as a Prime member is cheaper.

It's not called amazon prime music though, it's actually called amazon music, which is included with prime and gives you around 2 million songs.
The other, which costs an extra £7.99 for prime members, is called amazon music unlimited..... ;)

Driving into the estate, a lane crosses the road to a footpath onto the High Street
Three teenager, two glued to their phone screens, walked straight out of the lane in front
of me, totally oblivious of my presence despite me having music loud

Does your car not have a horn?
Probably but I think Ingrid had more fun running over the teenagers :sneaky: :LOL::LOL:

Don't see why you feel I need to defend myself for someone not looking before they cross the road ?
Of course my car has a horn, it's a legal requirement but could have made things worse if the lads had
hesitated at the sound, so best concentrate on avoiding a collision which was my decision, I did sound the horn as they walk away down the path after crossing and that was the first time they were aware of my presence
It's not a wide lane leading to the parking area, cars park on one side leaving a single track, I do have dashcam footage, but
my priority was avoiding hitting them

I think Ingrid was referring to the previous post. ;)

You are correct Marc (y)

Ahh! In which case I hope she got my intended joke first time around and sorry to have created some confusion.

Thanks for that Marc :ty:

Sorry I meant to click :p but must have hit "quote" instead

Re above posts about almost knocking down inattentive pedestrians, my wife was driving along with a wooded area on the left and there's a walkway through there to wherever. By the entrance/exit..just a gap in the hedge, is a pedestrian crossing. A women in her late 30's came running out of the wood in jogging gear and wearing a set of head phones. She looked neither left nor right and ran right infront of us over the crossing. She wasn't even aware we were there. Kids on bikes wearing headphones is another hazard.

Something annoyed my yesterday.....myself.

Checked car lights yesterday evening, noticed side lights were not working. Long story short, I checked when MOT was due and it was a month ago. Thankfully I have it in a garage right this minute getting an MOT done.

What a prat I am. I knew I should have written it down somewhere in view. I even checked when it was some months ago and I completely forgot about it.

  • Haha
Reactions: Sky
WAMT? Litter! Grockles coming to the coast and leaving their **** for someone else to clean up. We've seen very little for months and then wham! It's in the hedgerows, on the roads and in the streets. Take it home or bin it!

You can sign up for email reminders at DVLA, works well.

One of the few things I have in my phone's calendar - well, several things (several vehicles!).

My garage always text's me a month before its due.

My ‘garage’ is one man (and wife sometimes takes money) and in the past he has phoned me if I’m late but I’ve just had the MOT done at almost 2 years from the last due to COVID extensions, though it was overdue :). I think they only do cars for “local people” ;).
