I had something similar happen. Drove to the petrol station on the way to work. Picked up some red bull and some gum. The guy was showing a new trainee how to operate the till. They (after a few goes) got the total up. I paid, not looking at what the total was. Drove off. Went home in the evening and went to enter the receipt into the computer (sad, I know) and realised I'd been charged only for the drink and gum. Went back the next morning and they were grateful I'd come back as the missing fuel would have come out their own pocket.I filled up the tank once, picked up a couple of bits in the shop, paid for the bits and drove away.
About an hour later it suddenly dawned on me that I hadn't paid for the £60 of petrol!!
Fearing that I was about to get my collar felt by the local gendarmerie, I hot footed it back to the petrol station and, grovelling, apologised profusely.
sounds like she has a mind of her own
