Walking my dog Skye

Friday, 20th June

Back out for another big adventure. It was an absolute epic. 19 miles, 1240 metres of ascent over 13 hours, over the Fisherfield Munros of Sgùrr Bàn and Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair.

Early morning start heading off down the track to Loch a' Bhraoin

Cracking view of Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair in the centre and the slopes we'll return down much later

Having rounded the shoulder under Creag Rainich we drop down into the glen which widens out and follow the faint path across lovely dry grass to Loch an Nid.
Sgùrr Bàn is the grey peak top left, then the knoll of Meallan an Laoigh and on the ridge to the right is the demoted Munro, now Corbett of Beinn a' Chlaidheimh

We crossed the outflow of Loch an Nid at the north end and headed up the slope towards the col between Sgùrr Bàn and Beinn a' Chlaidheimh. An Teallach also making an appearance.

Skye got a good drink at the lochan on the col.

Then there was a lot of rough quartzite boulders...

... to get up to the summit of Sgùrr Bàn.

Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair and it's east top to the left, from Sgùrr Bàn. Beinn Eighe just visible on the right.

I'd been watching the cloud formations around An Teallach all day, despite the haze that had come in I liked this scene the best
rx 05864 20250620

Skye still way out in front of me as we descended the slope to the path home. Somewhere here Skye found a fawn hidden beside a rock in long grass. Interestingly she was only about 6 - 10 ft away when she realised it was there, sniffed, and backed off. It was still out of sight as I approached, I thought she'd found an adder or something. When I spotted it I moved away and past leaving it undisturbed. Skye was already further down the slope.

Getting there. Nearly back at Loch an Nid

Beautiful dog.

I just bought my fourth Border Collie a couple of weeks ago. First was in the 80's, the last passed in February 2024. Still sadly missed but we thought it time to get another.

She's getting her second vaccination on Tuesday so will get her out a week after that.

Can't see past Collies. Great dogs.

Monday, 21st July

We had a good stroll from the Red Hut to Loch na h-Oidhche. Warm and humid so plenty of midges and clegs. Forecast was for heavy rain in the afternoon so we didn't hang about at the loch. A quick bit of lunch, a paddle for Skye, and chased out by the weather we could see coming in. Made it back to the van, and Skye had a swim in Loch Maree just before the deluge. The road to Kinlochewe was impressively awash.

It's like a reflection

Concerned at the weather perhaps?

Monday 28th July

We had a wander into the area between Meall a' Ghiuthais, Ruadh-Stac Beag. and Creag Dhubh. It started cool, damp and breezy, with low cloud hiding the tops. Which, TBH, felt lovely after the warm and humid conditions lately.

Just out of the forest and Skye decided to pose for me

We'd branched off the path into the bog and boulders below Creag Dhubh - part of the wider Beinn Eighe, when I caught her posing again

Friday, 1st August

We found ourselves at Contin for an easy-ish stroll again. Twice round the View Rock trail but it was getting warm and the wee beasties were out so I didn't fancy going to the lochan this time. Still feeling tired and not really bounced back after our big walk at the end of June.

It seemed to be all about Skye this time. Lots of poses for me as long as I was quick with the snaps.

February 5th.

I got some work done this morning and as the sun was shining we went down to the beach. Despite the weather station saying it was 7c it was cold with a biting wind and blowing sand around at times.

She played to the camera for me. This is my favourite from a bunch of lucky snaps.

Friday 8th August

Another wet visit to the west coast. We stopped off at Contin, Loch Glascarnoch, and Loch Maree.

Skye coming back wondering why I'm taking a photo of some weird pillar thing (ETA: there are 3 pillars that take markers so engineers can check if the dam is moving, this is the middle one)

A touristy day out which ended up at Firemore beach, the Arctic Convoy Memorial on the headland north of Cove, and Mellon Udrigle beach. Some running about the beach and swimming for seaweed stalks might have taken place.

Sunday, 31st August

Another visit to Contin woods before the rain set in. A gusty wind was rustling the tree tops but down at ground level it was quite calm if noisy.

Same old place it may be, but sniffs are important

Proper mountain weather :)

The mast isn't far above the car park and Sgurr a' Choarachain isn't far beyond that. Good views if you can get a clear day.

Sunday 14th September

Another visit to Contin woods. There's something about walking through trees that's... calming maybe. Still not bored of the place. Although I struggle to find a photo that's a bit different from all the others I've posted.

Such a lovely tail when she holds it high!

Spot the dog?! At Loch na Crann.

Monday 6th October

Wont be able to get out until at least the weekend and the forecast was for rain and windy again, so we ended up at Contin! And true to form it was dry, but it did get progressively more windy. Ah well. We got out.

A few trees down on the paths and this one gave a good opportunity for a lucky shot.
