Walking my dog Skye

Beautiful shots, of both landscape and dog. I'd like to put a "like" against all of them, however I'll limit it to your last post!

Wow what a stunning place to live, I am very envious .

Friday, 14th March

Going round The Woodland Trail again first thing we spotted this bright orange bird. A Scottish Crossbill pushed the wee Sony RX100's zoom to it's limit, and then I unfairly cropped it some more.

After a dreadful week with the lurgy I really needed a simple but good walk, but the weather forecast wasn't great. So eventually we headed for the Mountain Trail from Collie na Glas Leitire. Didn't get a view and it was blowing a hoolie across the top of the trail so didn't hang around. Still a good walk and much better than being grumpy at home.

With the hills being too windy for this Old Bear, we headed for a relatively low-level stroll along the north side of Loch Maree. The path from Incheril is the usual way up to Slioch but we continued on the little used path towards Letterewe. Stopped for lunch overlooking the old croft at Smiorasair and then headed back out.

Part 1:
Well that was an adventure! I was taken by the coire and croft ruins at Smiorasair the other day and thought it would be fantastic spot to camp. Not that I'd camped for many years, and Skye hadn't at all. Miraculously, at that point the weather decided to settle down and go all sunny. It was now or probably never. What could go wrong!

Happy Skye at being out again

Alpenglow on Slioch above our camp as we had a stroll round before settling in for the night - amazingly she did, came into the tent and laid down where I told her. Even stayed there when I went for a pee in the middle of the night

Part 2:

Both of us got a little cold in the night so when I woke just before sunrise it was time to get up and moving. Much of this side of Slioch was in deep shadow for some time and the little Sony RX100-7 struggles a bit in poor light. My inspiration for different photos took a backseat too. But they are where we walked so here's a few anyway.

A walk to Creag Rainich, it's a Corbett - a Scottish hill between 2,500–3,000 feet and a prominence of at least 500 feet all around.

Heading for Loch a' Bhraoin, again.

Oblivious to the reflections in the loch she's hunting critters in the grass!

We had a couple of little wanders yesterday. My photos from the track on the north side of Loch Glascarnoch were pretty meh, much like how I felt about the head wind and generally, so not included here. I also wanted to explore above Dundonnell as another potential way up to An Teallach and to get some views. This was much better all round despite getting wet feet.

Waiting for me to catch up

A family day out to Fort William. We ended up in Glen Nevis and stopped in the Lower Falls car park and walked from there along the Allt Coire a' Mhusgain till the wind got up.

Quite a rough path

We started late... for us. It was just gone 11am when we left the parking spot by the Red Hut (now green) heading for Loch na h-Oidhche. It was grey and starting to rain hence not up a hill. Although I do have the nearby Beinn an Eòn - a Corbett, on my radar.

Out again for some much needed endorphins. A mediocre weather forecast so we went for a reliable walk - The Mountain Trail from Glas Leitire.

Monday 21st April

We climbed the Corbett of Beinn Enaiglair above Braemore Junction. It was a bit hazy to get the best from long views but it was a good walk. The forecast rain held off. Skye had fun hunting critters in the heather and she did very well in following the old stalkers paths which I could barely see at times.

This bit of moorland was pretty dry, the rest however!

Twice round the loop at Contin and a visit to Loch na Crann.

Only a couple of photos as I was messing about with video... Which the wee RX100 does quite well but when walking is still quite shaky. Which makes me think if I want to do video occasionally, other than a scan round of the view, buy a gopro or not bother.

Tuesday 28th, April.

We decided on a day out over the west coast and ended up at Loch Maree whilst still early afternoon. So whilst Paul sat in the camper doing work stuff, we went round The Mountain Trail, again. I got a couple of nice photos of Skye actually looking at me.

rx 03514 20250429

Its always a nice scene of Loch Maree from here but it lacks a good foreground. Handily Skye decided on wandering around and I saw this about to happen. Even so it was a quick snap from waist height and hope for the best.

The Mountain Trail continued: I took some video on the way up...

ETA: it should show a preview, and it's marked public so don't know why it says, for me, its restricted to playback on youtube. I've been looking around for other places to host the odd video if anyone has recommendations.

Tuesday, 10th June

After yet more rain we headed along the track to Loch na h-Oidhche. The river was over the middle stones at the ford and wasn't in the mood to push it, so had lunch on a nearby rock and headed back from there. It's a good walk anyway.

Skye always happy to be out
