When I was at school in the 1970's the population of the UK was always around 56 million. The population in the intervening 40 years has apparently risen to 64.5 million people, around about a 20% increase.
I wonder then why so many of the local towns and cities I'm familiar with have increased their populations by 50% or more. I remember Cheltenham's population being about 80k in the 1980's whereas it's now standing at 125k. The situation is similar in the nearby cities of Gloucester and Worcester as well as tiny villages being expanded into small towns over the past twenty or thirty years. The evidence would seem to indicate the UK population is somewhat more than the figures quoted.
Just wondering really....(n)
