Tube strike. Too far this time?

I can't follow why anyone would oppose workers asking for the best conditions and pay and using the only means they have to obtain same.
Shouldn't everyone be doing the same?
I'm not trolling, i just don't follow why people don't support others fighting for their rights.
Because it isn't clear what they are actually fighting for. They say it isn't about the money but about work life balance. The company is guaranteeing they still work 34 hours per week. So what is the issue?

The same unwillingness to talk has been clear. Why suspend talks to strike and not suspend strike to talk. Why demand that Boris sits on the table, why would that make the offer any different. There is just so much wrong with them, and that is why the fast majority of the public is not behind them.

I might not agree, but definitely respect people who stand for something. Here they don't know what they want.

I assume they are on the same hours as the daytime guys?
eg, Start at 9pm do your 7 hours and be in bed not long after 4am,
I did a similar shift a few years ago, I loved it, where do I sign up for this train driving lark again?
Hey for £50K per annum I'll do that no bother at all.

thats your side of it, I'm sure that others that worked with you would have something different to say.
If were all shafted, why would someone else have something different to say on the matter. Were you there, did it affect you? I doubt it.

And you know that they won't refuse, how? Because you say they won't.

And if they are recruiting drivers to specifically work nightshirt then they deserve every penny they get because working long periods of nightshifts is crap.

So it's crap, you're right, that's why they'll get more money and won't be forced to do it.

As for the first bit, I'll assume you're just a little hormonal. ;)

But the strike is not about the money ;) and I know that because there is a long queu of people wanting to be a driver, AND the turn out whilst good wasn't a majority for all unions. So when it comes down to it and they realise that the deal is actually pretty darn good, and they realise they could never get anything better else where then yet I think it is a pretty sure fire and well reasoned assessment that they'll go for it. And if not, sack them.

That's a typical 1970 British industry managerial attitude. It was p*** poor then and its p*** poor now. Perhaps I'm way too ungrateful that my company are proposing I work an extra 25% more hours for no extra pay. Or maybe not.

I think we should nip down the HQ and drop off our resume's ;)
I bet the unions made certain that outsiders can't get the jobs ;)

Just be thankful you have a job my lad :D

Oh stop talking nonsense and pay attention. They don't have to work more hours, they aren't forced to work night shifts, and for helping out during the launch on a temporary basis they get increased pay. Where does the part of working 25% more hours and no extra pay come from?

What would they have to say of it when the work has left the country?

I'll let you into a secret here. The underground will always stay in this country. It might not fit in with your way of the world but it's a safe bet it will.

I used to do 75 hours over 7 days and not expected to complain, it's not right that anyone should be forced to sacrifice rights and conditions fought for by those before.
Eroding of same is very much a backwards step, we should be asking our relative employers for better conditions and well above the living wage.
If tube drivers are perceived to have an easy job then i find that to be jealousy on the part of those who don't drive them.

Get another one.

Et oh! lets not go there :D
I have been there, fortunately Ford haven't made any compulsory redundancies in the UK for years, long before I started there in 79 anyway. I was fortunate 2yrs ago when they shut the toolroom and press shop where I worked, I got a nicer easier and cleaner job, easier commute and slightly better money. Some of my workmates who decided not to leave have ended up doing menial tasks on a production line instead. If the unions hadn't been working to their own agenda instead of representing their members properly, Ford may well still be producing cars in Dagenham and the toolroom and press shop would still have been viable.
If anyone wants to know what unions were like and still try to act like, Watch the film Made in Dagenham, how the union treated the women workers back in the 60's is how they try to bully and treat their members today.

Oh you really do not pay attention do you. That was in the context of Ford, the side conversation that was going on.

If you were saying anything worth paying attention to I would, but as you obviously think that you're some sort of expert on this, when you're clearly not, then forgive me if I ignore the rubbish that you're spouting.

Enough of the personal's you two, thanks

You can have whatever opinion you like about me, however nowhere is it proposed that they have to work 25% more and don't get extra pay.

You know rather than resulting in a personal attack why not be a man and admit that it was a totally irrelevant comment in relation to this dispute.
