Top Gear

Apparently Cruise's lap was quite slow, might have had something to do with him having Katie Holmes locked in the trunk boot at the time.....:naughty:

Cameron Diaz was on radio 5live, saying they did the track earlier today. I thought they shot on a wednesday, so she may have been confused. She also suggested that her laps were pretty quick.

Do you think they let Tom use Hammonds booster seat to see over the wheel?

And is it me, or do the walkie talkies they use constitue a "handheld communication device" and so earn the presenters 3 points a sixty pound fine every time they use them???

Ive thought the same thing, but then I think a lot of poilce would be in trouble because they do the same. When I got stopped by a police woman in an X5 (one of the prettiest girls ive ever seen) she had a lever like an indicator stalk that she pressed to talk so she didnt have to push her radio, but I do see police pushing the buttons on their radios attached to their vests, which I presume is pretty much the same as holding a radio.

The law is quite specific, and states that it is the handheld bit that is illegal. If you have a handset that is fixed in the car, you can press buttons on it legally. Therefore, when the bobbies press the buttons as they are attached to their vests it is legal.

What did the pretty lady tell you that you were a very naughty boy for?

Sod the American film stars, was more interested in and loved the tribute to Senna and will defo be looking out for the film based on him next year!!!!!

I read his book, the guy was a legend both on and off the track!

The car I was driving wasnt showing insurance, I was insured but the actual car didnt have its own policy on it (it was just at the time when they were changing this area of insurance).

It didnt belong to me but I was given permission to drive it, so technically I was allowed to drive it. This has now changed and the vehicle has to have its own policy on it. Anyway she just wanted to confirm I had insurance and after a bit of chatting I was allowed on my way, and just had a producer. Very tempted to ask for her number, but didnt know how it would go down, so didnt.

Again, taken from the BBC website:

Next Sunday, 21:30 on BBC Two (except Northern Ireland (Analogue), Wales (Analogue))

Synopsis: Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May buy old British roadsters from Jensen-Healey, Lotus and TVR before taking a wistful journey through the remnants of the UK's sports car industry, starting in Norfolk and ending up at the mothballed TVR factory in Blackpool. Also, Jeremy takes to the test track in the sensational new Ferrari 458 Italia, and laid-back Hollywood legend Jeff Goldblum is the star in the new reasonably priced car.

Nice to see they were round the corner from me at the Lotus factory and didn't call in for a cuppa.....I'll be having words next time I see Mr Clarkson!! :bat:

Great episode this week, I couldn't careless about Tom Cruise and his scientology rubbish but he always comes across as down to earth and genuine and as for Cameron Diaz (drool :) )
Along with with tribute to Senna who many agree, was the worlds best F1 driver, this was TG on form.

The Senna piece was great but even the bit with the Veyron driving quickly in a straight line was good to watch.

I was getting a bit fed up with the increasingly staged buy/build/test/set it on fire stories, but this episode was much better without the ar$ing around..

Yup, good episode this week. Think it was because it felt less forced. Really enjoyed the Senna piece too.

Clicky

There also appears to be something in the pipeline that involves racing a Skoda against a Ferrari at Donnington

The Senna tribute was great and very well done. Back in the days when F1 was properly exciting and the most talked about thing from a GP was not team orders.
Hamilton really did look like a kid on chrimbo morning when he got to drive his car.

I was welling up with that bit...I was only a year older than Lewis when he died, and I had been at a kart racing meeting as well (back when I wanted to be an F1 driver)...it may even have been the same one as LH...and we were on our way back on the elevated section of the M6 in Birmingham when I heard the news and I just sat stunned in silence until we got home.

A little bit of racing history died that day and it was a properly moving tribute to his legacy, and good to see Clarkson not just belittling F1 like they've done in the past. As for Gilles Villeneuve, he was before my time, but Senna, Prost and Mansell...they were gods to me.

As an aside, I photographed the GP2 a couple of years ago, and stepping onto the grid at Silverstone and seeing Bruno Senna on pole made my heart jump.

When he's got his helmet on and sat in the car, he is the spitting image of Ayrton...it's scary.

Totally agree

all the clips of him driving are what F1 is all about, the one that shows up the most was the fact that he used to drive around slow moving cars when on his hot laps, something today's F1 drivers complain and moan about, take 60% aero away and go back to the good old days where talent wins you things, not the best car

wow - what an episode.......... every bit totally great.............

@jamesb84 - Bruno is scarily similar to Ayrton.

Where else would you hear Cameron Diaz saying "**** me!" (apart from in your dreams) even if the voice was bleeped and the video pixellated! Only shame was that the midget was faster.

Last nights was a great episode, in fact this has been a great series. The Senna tribute was superb, and that's the era when I was in my teens that I was really into F1 and I now remember why.

Plus anything with Cameron Diaz in it is a massive win :love::love:
:agree:

Just disappointed that Clarkson missed a trick then......... "ok then love, let's go, and on that bombshell, we're ending 20 mins early tonight. Goodnight!"

More like:
"...and on that bombshell, we're taking a three-minute break!"

...well that's all it's take me...:shake:

Ah that brought back memories. I Was fortunate to spend 3 days with Senna and Mclaren at Pembrey many years ago. A lovely chap he was.

when he first drove for Lotus, he rented a bungalow on Rugge Drive in Norwich, literally a 1 min cycle ride from my parent's house............. pretty sure, still have some autographs of his somewhere around parents........

Was as excellent as ever. Tom CRuise and Cameron Diaz were a lot of fun, they seem like genuinely nice people. Great tribute to Ayrton Senna too.. Found it moving and for me showed off just how good JC is as a serious Journalist..

If you want a good laugh get the Highway Code according to topgear. Very funny..

that Bugatti Veyron Supersport is insane...........

£1,600,000 - only 5 will be made, £20,000 for 4 tyres that last for 37 miles at full whack and about 1.5 mpg at full chat........:gag:

Right, off to buy an Euromillions ticket.......

hell yeah, James May got owned ,

apparently the cost of the royalties they had to pay for the F1 footage for the Senna tribute means they'll only be able to show it once more !

I thought that as they had the rights to air F1 they had the rights to back catalogue(but only while airing races....)thats why they have vintage stuff online...I know Bernie likes to make a bit of money though so it wouldnt surprise me all that much

my missus heard it on Chris evans this morning , someone who works on Top Gear had rung in apparently
