The virus. PPE. Part 1

Crazy, just going to get worse and worse. Today was my first day back in work and the tension is palpable :-(

I just hope that the government does the full lockdown sooner rather than later as I think, until then, it will continue like wildfire.
At least then those stupid enough to run the risk of the lockdown can be fined and if they continue can be charged with a criminal offence and possibly face jail. OK, someones going to point out there wont be spaces / prison service is under strain with illness of their officers, but it'll simply be a suspended sentence until the country gets straightened out I would think. The law will soon catch up with them.

How long in your view can total lock down be maintained?
If you are going to say indefinitely, stop and think before you type it.

It's not up to us, we'll be ordered to comply for as long as it takes, or the powers at be decide otherwise.

It will happen because the government have asked people to stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel, and if that's not possible then to use social distancing..
Unfortunately all the idiots have taken that to mean it's ok to go out as long as they stay at least 2m from others.
All the others that don't follow the social distancing must have some kind of death wish.

I think they are simply ignorant and not in the "ignorant of the facts" definition but more of a "I'm alright jack" way.
As I say, hopefully the lockdown will come sooner rather than later for the sake of the majority.

I'm hoping it's announced tonight before everything gets totally out of hand.

You are a very argumentative old git, you know exactly what I mean
So to clarify, how long from a practical and psychological angle do you think a lock down could last
I'm sure the experts, so not you or anyone else on here have a predetermined timescale in mind

Same, just seen on the Beeb that there's no daily briefing due to the Cobra meeting. Wonder if there is going to be something in the 9 or 10 o Clock news? Likely if there's a big change they dont want it on the news before the end of the commuter run?

I'm not being argumentative. I knew exactly what you meant.
I'm simply asking you what you think.
Feel free to reply without being abusive.

No not indefinetly as quite rightly as you have mentioned earlier, long term confinement is going to cause other health issues BUT the UK hasnt' even started with a lockdown( that's not dismissing those in 2 weeks self isolation)

Worldwide medical experts are working like beavers to come up with a treatment ...Today, in Marseille, numerous french people have attended a hospital to receive and test out a treatment.

I'll try find details online details to link in here

Just to clarify the official position, not the self appointed experts on here

Deputy chief medical officer Dr Jenny Harries said the Government was not saying “don’t go outside” but to leave the house in a way that reduces social contact.
She recommended taking walks while keeping a distance of two metres apart or while taking bike rides together

As far as total confinement goes I cannot see much more than a month being practical or enforceable
Even less in many built up areas where a majority live in flats with no gardens or balconies

That`s what I have been doing when taking Susie out for her walks, but have not seen anyone.

I think that the minimum duration would be long enough to allow the health service to catch its breath and have some capacity to cope with a possible influx of new cases.

What do gardens and balconies have to do with it?

I'm not confident on it being adhered to.
I fear there will be issues enforcing it, and the authorities will need to adopt a very strong stance.
I hope I'm wrong.
I don't see any other way of trying to tackle the virus without a vaccine.

If you order a new car, you don't get to drive it until collection day.
I've not bought many brand new cars over the years, but I've always driven a demo.
Probably shows the car at its worse that one ;)
If I don't I may find it uncomfortable or not to my liking handling wise.
You can read all the manufactures b******t you like, but if it "doesn't suit you sir" there is no way I'm buying.

so you can cross that one off your to do list
Gutted ... NOT :D

I did hear about that on the radio earlier and thought at the time, Seriously? WTF?

Already answered I believe, if you have ever lived in a tower block you wouldn't have asked
I have lived in a tower block, no balcony, communal garden. I could certainly have got loads of fresh air by opening the windows, probably more bracing then Skegness . What I’m saying is if you have to stay in, you have to, end of, you possibly may say. It’s a matter of life and death.

I give up, yes you are right always, have a good one

Yep quite correct.

I just spoke to a local Ford dealership as my van lease is due to end, I was informed that if I want a new or used Ford through them , I cannot take a test drive, it would be a case of there's the car and here's the keys goodbye.
Not much help to you (as Mini don't make vans) but according to an email I recently received my local Mini/BMW dealer is still offering test drives, they say they will sanitise the car before & after the test drive to protect their staff & customers.

There was a report from few day ago going round bars or clubs somewhere in the NE and the common view was it was all brought in from China by foreigners. Some truth in that but it was “brought in” by business people and holidaymakers, some foreign but probably mostly not :(.

I would think bussiness travellers and returning holiday makers. I don't know if China had banned outgoing flights when this country started reporting cases ..if so then it wasn't brought directly from there. As cases were confirmed I did hear that a couple of people were returning holiday makers or they'd been in contact with someone who had returned from holiday.Tonight I heard on the news that the virus can incubate from 5-14 days. I read on another forum that on Fiday or Saturday evening flights went into Heathrow from China,Italy and Iran. I posted a couple of days ago that I was watching flights from Heathrow to the US, Canada and one to Bogata overfly Gloucester .I thought the US had banned flights from Europe including us and Ireland which in the first instance weren't included. I use Flightradar and Planefinder and they give that information along with a lot more. I can see them approaching Gloucester on the flightpath and look out for them . Keeps me out of trouble.Lol. The very noisy ones, not showing for obvious reason, are the USA's U2's out of RAF Fairford ..15 miles from me.

At 8.30pm Boris is telling the nation what the next move is going to be. many think more stringent measures. One MP said that lock down isn't something they want to impose because most people will willingly abide by the advisories, besides we don't do that sort of thing here. Abide by the advisories ? No wonder they have a reputation for being out of touch.

I've never lived in a tower block, but there is nothing I like more than getting all the windows and doors open as it warms up (y)
TBH I work outside 90% of the time and mostly alone. I think I suffer ( mildly) from Claustrophobia
( and being a miserable [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] as well :D )

And of course the first rule of buying new or used is, never without driving it first.
That's what i don't get about these adverts, offering to sell you a car and delivering it direct to your door ( even before the s*** hit the fan)
Do people really buy like that?

I don't know about everyone else, but if I'm taking hold of a vehicle valued at just short of £30k then I fancy I want a try before I buy.....difficult at the moment :banghead:

Any old geezer with a beard...

Trust me living in an inner London high rise a balcony is a godsend especially when it's unbearably hot at night

A few people on here are living in fantasy land, some of these estates are simmering just below the surface.
One little incident and it will kick off, when it does controlling it will be a nightmare.
Any lock down needs to be carefully considered, no doubt the police are heavily involved in talks

I'll take you word for it, as its not something that appeals to me in the slightest.

With the 20 odd thousand Army personnel that are apparently on standby to drive trucks ambulances etc. No doubt ;)

A lot of people who do live there aren't over the moon about it either.

Can see a lot of agro coming, more firearms around these days too.
Used to just be bricks and petrol bombs along with the odd burned out car.
Also some heavy s*** waiting to be dropped off the upper floors, that really is lethal
