I heard it will happen in Friday. The whole UK.
Not sure if it's a rumour though.
Supposedly from a credible source.

On a personal selfish level I would be quite happy with London locked down. The rest of us can keep living and enjoying life. London is certainly not all of UK.

Yep. Getting its name right should stop it. Remember Spanish flu? I do and nobody was getting their knickers in a twist about its name.
There are plenty of real issues to worry about.

Oh yeah, its racist to call out the virus origin. The virus itself is of course less important. Sure.

I would have thought the competence of the man directing the response to this virulent killer virus, is a very real issue to all Americans and many beyond the borders of the USA.

In my head 23, the rest of me not so much.
It was swine flu when it came back in my era. But folks were calling it Spanish flu again. Im not 102. :)
 
I saw a story earlier that the canals in Venice are running clear because no one is moving along them. :oops: :$ Went and had a look on few live webcams and there is no one there bar the odd person and Police. Same in Rome, same in Madrid from the webcams.

It shows how seriously these countries are taking it. :(

It is eerie seeing some places you may have visited, and so know how many people are usually there.

Yeah, I wondered about that too :) . The bad influenza* in the 1959’s was called ”Asian Flu“ I think (I got it outside U.K. so not sure).

* (I don’t like calling it “flu” because people seem to use that about other things, as in”I’ve got a touch of the ‘flu :()
 
Just looking at a webcam in Rome, and one Police car left a square, and another came in from a different direction. And there is a soldier stationed in the square. :oops: :$ If they go this far in the UK, then there won't be enough Police to enforce anything.

They and you weren’t entirely wrong, though it pains me to say it Brian :). Both Spanish (1918) and Swine influenzas were H1N1 virus apparently :) (per Wikipedia)

I read your post after I typed my response, as the posts were compressed until I got the option to read further posts on my laptop. Your post didn't originally show as I scrolled down.

So you don't remember Spanish 'Flu or presumably it's contemporary Swine 'Flu.

You remember a later strain of Swine 'Flu, which is very closely related to Spanish 'Flu but not the same thing.

Regardless of what the 'Flu was called then, calling it 'Chinese 'Flu' or 'Kung 'Flu' is hardly appropriate now.

The army presence isn’t new. When I went to Rome in October there were army posts at every tourist attraction.

My daughter has just received an email saying that this summers GCSE and A level exams have been cancelled, she will be given her predicted grades instead, fortunately her predicted A level grades are good enough for her entry into Hull Uni.
