The TP Weight Loss thread 2008

Haha its more a me being unfit/unhealthy thing...i could honestly do with losing about a stone! i eat far too much junk...

I've been on my healthy living plan for almost a week now - I had terrible headaches for the first 3 days - I assume it was my body detoxing... but now I am feeling fine - less bloated too.

I've started to take water retention tablets to help with the excess fluid I have and as I sit at my desk here at work, I look the the side of me and see carrot sticks, celery, a plum, 2 pears some mixed dry fruit and my treat for the day - a baby bel.

Looking forward to my evening meal of chicken with garlic and chilli with steamed veggies...

I dont know if I have lost any yet as its too soon for me to jump on the scales.

I'm not on a diet, its my new way of living....

Well Done Glitter! Healthy eating is the way to go,

I have lost nearly 2 lb in my first week just cutting down and banning eating between meals. If desparate I get some fruit, If I don't want fruit I'm obviously not hungry so go without! I have a house full of healthy good stuff now. Loving those sugar snap peas and carrot sticks!

Keep going everyone!!!!!

Well think I will join in this now, just taken the plunge and rejoined weight watchers online and will be getting weighed every sunday.
Got weighed this sunday then went for curry for tea, which was very nice, and I was better than normal when I went out.
I wont be posting my weight or photos but I will let you know how I am getting on.

Goodluck everyone and keep going.

Well I am editing this since matt bit the bullet and posted his weight, I will be brave as I am among one of the heaviest too so here goes.

Start Weight: 20st 4lb
Current Weight: 20st 4lb

Current Weight loss: 00st 00lb

I arent putting time taken as to me this part doesnt matter it is that I am now doing something about it.

I have a house full of healthy good stuff now. Loving those sugar snap peas and carrot sticks!

With 2 teenage boys who eat for England... the fridge is full of chocolate and carbs!

If you live on your own you just dont buy it, but every time I go to the fridge, there it all is..shouting "eat me, eat me" !!!! :D

But I have resisted for about 4 days .... once the choc-habit is broken it starts to get easier.

Okay then,

I'm in too.

We've just ordered a treadmill and I'm dead serious about doing this and losing some weight before I go to Florida, then I want to carry on when we get back and get down to a more ideal weight.

I've tried gym memberships before - two different ones. The first was at a Fitness First, and I started with very good intentions, we went a couple of times a week and it was okay. £30 a month though and 12 month minimum contract. There were three of us that would go, two ladies and me. I found the mens locker room intimidating, the whole place wasn't great - there was a lot of macho macho look at my muscles stuff and I just found it uncomfortable. If sue was working I'd go down on my own - this was even worse. Eventually I just stopped going

So we tried another one a few years later, this one had no minimum contract but was very small. There were only three treadmills and a handful of other things. It was quite a way out of the way too.

The biggest thing for me is that going to the gym doesn't just involve you working out for 40 minutes or an hour, its getting there, doing your workout, having a shower, getting back home and it eats up most of your evening.

The treadmill was by far my most favorite piece of kit, got to a stage where I could walk on it for 45 mins at a quick pace and not break a sweat. I've always wanted one at home so that I could bob on it for 30 mins on an evening, run and get a shower and you're sorted - you can do whatever you like with the rest of your evening. Problem is - weighing what I weigh you have to spend a lot of money to get one that will take your weight. Theres a York Z16 that was £799 that I've found for £499 and we've ordered it today. Its coming on Weds or Thurs. Very pleased about that.

I wasn't going to post my weight up, I'm easily the heaviest here, but I'm biting the bullet and going with it. I weighed myself in KG because that was what the scales were set to and I'll convert it to stones for both my benefit and the progress thingymabob.

I'm not the heaviest I've ever been - I was edging out towards 24st but I've lost a bit of weight over Xmas with having the flu and no apetite. I'll start from when I weighed in on Friday evening though and see how we go from here.

Start Weight : 23st 1lb(146.8KG)

Good on you, Matt

I have one of those eliptical exercise machine things, It's been in the garage since I did my back injury :(

got on the dreaded scales today.. the thing is they are ancient, probably not a million miles out but the results are repeatable, if you see what I mean, If you've cheated, lost nowt or lost a bit you can't escape.
really need some accurate ones, anyway, these wildly inaccurate ones say my racing snake physique adds 18st6lb to the world..
so, back to my ELMM diet. eat less, move more. should also say something about drink less alcohol too, cos i've given up on my beloved red wine :shake:
watch this space.
Dave

Well, it's almost the end of the first week for me, and I must say, it has been easier than I anticipated. I joined Weight Watchers and have been following the 'core' plan which essentially means eating 3 square meals per day and snacking on fruit. I've resisted the temptation to weigh myself until my official weigh day on Thursday.

Well done to everyone who has come on board

Giving up everything thats bad for you is not a good thing, you are more likely to get bored and break the diet quickly, give up all but a couple of your faves and moderate the others, I am moderating chocolate and booze! given up chips, crisps and other unhealthy nibbles.

I like the ELMM diet!

Yea thats what im doing..hav had my first proper strict day today and its going well so far, lol, tho its still only 7pm ish. iv just been eating more sensibly and not snacking on things like biscuits and other unhealthy stuff, fruit and cereal bars instead :) its not been too bad!

Well my first week is up on wednesday when I weight in. So far I have given up everything thats bad, have eaten lots of healthy fruit and veg, got lots of weight watchers food in so its easy to count the points off. Have also done two 40 minute powerwalks since last wednesday too so hopefully getting back into excercise will help. Will have to see what wednesday brings :)

I'm in with you guys too :) I wont be posting my weight - coz its a bigger number than anyone else on here (and I've only just bought some scales this weekend) and can;t bring myself to telling anyone my weight, but I have been working hard to drop it this last week

One of the big problems of playing a high muscle game like ice hockey is what happens to your body when you stop :'(

KIM
I see no need to be shy about size, it's whats inside that counts :)

I think I've managed to shed a couple of pounds this week by reducing my beer intake, really struggling on the sweets though as the house still has loads left after Christmas.

We have loads of sweets/chocolate things both at home and work from christmas, tins of the stuff, and havent had any for a couple of days.

and havent had any for a couple of days.

I don't know how you manage.....I can't walk past chocolate without having a nibble :(, but if there's none in the house or if I'm out at the shops, it's very rare I'll miss it or buy it. :cuckoo:

I would find it intimidating also:eek:
We have joined what is sold as a health farm which has a set of machines, pool, jacuzzi, steam room, pamper room, sauna, hot tiled lounger thingys, lounge with coffee and tea.
Very informal and mixed changing rooms. It is never busy and most of the time we have to use our swipe card to gain access and find we are sometimes the only ones in the building:).
The gym forms part of a small holiday park which without it would not be classed as 5 star so the holiday lets support the gym side, so I am informed.

Thought I would add my weight and desired weight, lol, is i felt i was copping out a bit by not adding it so here goes...

Current Weight: 12st 3lb
Desired Weight: 10st 7lb

I weighed about 12 stone when i was 16 and then got fed up with it and managed to go down to 9 st 7lb which was good but then my weight plateaud (sp?) at 10st 7lb for about 3 years and this past year iv gone up to 12st ish again. For some reason i'm finding having the will power to do something about it much harder this time! I know im not horrendously overweight or anything but i was a lot happier when i was smaller...lol...why cant we all just be happy that we are nice people and not have to worry about this sort of stuff eh?!

I wont be posting my weight - coz its a bigger number than anyone else on here '(

Who says your numbers are bigger than anyone elses on here??? Trust me - there is always someone bigger than you.

I bought scales at the weekend too - dam things dont go over 19stone so cant weigh myself on them:shake::eek::eek: - getting weighed at the Dr's now.

I did think about going to the public weighbridge and standing there :lol::lol::lol::lol:

It is exactly a week today since I started seriously on this diet thing! Had official weigh in this morning, 11st 12lb, = 3 1/4 lb lost in first week, I'm pretty happy with that :D Started a chart on the bathroom wall now to keep the enthusiasm going! :)

Thats why I bought some scales Glitter I got fed up of going to those "public weighbridges" :D,

Scales seem to come in 3 sizes, up to 19 stone, 23 stone and 28 stone. - Can tell you Boots have a great offer on the Weigh****chers scales that go up to 28 stone, they have them for about £16 at the mo.

Thats quite a good price Allan,

Ours are some big easy to read things that I think go up to 25st, bought them a few years ago, seem to work okay but I might have a look at those WW scales, ta :)

Ok here goes... my first weigh in...

Having been to the hospital this morning - fat clinic as I call it - first time ever been! I asked mr Dr to refer me for some guidance from the dietician.

I was weighted, measured, blood pressure, colestarol, bloods etc..

I am borderline diabetic - my cholestarol is 4.4 which is good, my blood pressure is up, but the great thing is - I have lost 7lbs in my first week which I am really pleased about.

They told me I am doing all the right things and go back in a month for my next weigh in.

Wow Snakeman. Can you lose weight eating all that in one day? That would keep me going for at least 3 days

The Snake Man must be pumping some serious iron.
Dean:)

Yeah, just getting back into it seriously. Tore my rotator cuff last April which put me out for months.

8 meals a day, i could go a week and not eat 8 meals :o

Well the treadmill arrived this afternoon, we've put it together and had a play around with the tension on the belt, think we've got it all sorted.

Did around 20 minutes in total over the course of an hour, various speeds and incline settings just to test it out. Can feel it in my calves which was always a good sign when I went to the Gym.

Will do a solid 15-20 minute workout on it tomorrow and see how I get on. Will hope to move up to around 45 minutes in the next few weeks once my general level of fitness improves and I'm used to the extra exercise.

Its quite quiet actually, biggest noise is the beep when you press the speed/incline buttons.

Either me or Sue will stick a pic up tomorrrow once we've got rid of this 7.5ft tall, 4ft wide box from the living room :P

The treadmill itself is folded up nicely in the alcove at the moment.

I'm torn between a treadmill or a turbotrainer for my road bike.

OMG my first weigh in was worse than I thought.

Started: 10th January, 2008

HEIGHT: 5' 7"
