THE PP GAME!

Just found this thread.
Here's my attempt...

Wasn't sure if i was gonna have time for this round, but had a play and came up with this.

PPpork by Adrian Deans, on Flickr

Played around with individual colour hues/sat in ACR, made 3 exposures and used Photomatix to blend using exposure merge mode i think. Added a reddish colour layer set to multiply, adjusted opacity maybe some soft masking too. Some dodge and burn, contrast (masked for land/sky) cloned out a cloud that was distracting me. Blurred before resizing using bicubic resampling (15% of original)

Makes me think of Ribena:lol:

Adobe Camera Raw
Camera Profile – Camera landscape
Lens Profile Correction – Sigma 10-20mm
Crop
Exposure -1.15
Clarity +28
Grad Filter - Exposure -1.75
Adjustment brush on distant hills – Exposure -1.70

Photoshop
Dodge & Burn
Sharpen with high pass technique

OK runners(s) up for this one are “Flying giraffe” and “Blukoo”, but piped to the post with the winning edit is “photoimaging”, well done Joan and over to you. :D

PS. I like the couple of cropped landscape edits posted, but I preferred to see and keep the lobster pot foreground in the shot. :)

Well done all.

Phil - I thought we had to post up how we went about the PP work? This isn’t in your rules on the first post mate. :)

The rules:

The owner of an image must post and await people to reply on this thread with their best attempt at retouching the image as well as HOW THEY ACHIEVED THE LOOK. Once it has been up for 1 day, the owner of that image must then make the last post their own retouched version of the original image and choose the best version (excluding their own) as PP king. The PP king of that image will then post an image of their own they think has potential to be great.

In addition...you didn't post your own version.

Sorry, I never realised that was the rules. I'll be sure to post my workings next time.

Well thanks, been in Llandrindod Wells since Tuesday, just got back so this is first time back on forum, will have a forage for a raw tonight.

Thanks again,

Joan

tricky one this, sharpened in raw upped the temp to get a more sandy colour, increased contrast etc, in cs5 cloned out beach debris and thats about it

We seem to be stuck in landscape mode. Chuck in some portraits, sports, macro's...whatever but it is most definitely a landscape game at the mo and it's an all genre game...

There is so much editing that can be done around portraits as well, I'd really like to see some from there.

Any more?, not many takers so shall I close this at 5.30pm tomorrow? and perhaps the winner will have portraits etc. to get your creative juices aflowing.

Joan

OK, no response for over five hours and have unexpected Family stuff over the weekend so I am announcing the winner to be....Flying Giraffe and ....a very close second....Wally Boy
Here's my edit.

The last few picture choices and amount of time taken to choose a winner perhaps has made people get a little bored.

Obviously I can't speak for everyone but ask we've had so far is the same genre and there may not have been enough potential for creative editing...obviously if you don't like what you see or don't think you can do much with it, you won't put the time and effort in to play...

Once again, just my opinion!

i would have thought there was plenty of potential in the above photo which is why i choose it

Here's a go, I took him out and gave him a few mates and put them in Camberwick Greens
Trumptonshire hills ;)

you are most likely really into your post production work and may, like me, want to better your skills. I would like to open my eyes to the endless possibilities one shot can offer.

So what has gone wrong with this thread? Surely if the original poster was looking for "I would like to open my eyes to the endless possibilities one shot can offer." there should be far more entries. So I declare Wallyboy to be the winner for this one and hope that Wallyboy can come up with
something that can kickstart this thread.

Anyway here's my edit

Like I said, too many of the same and each with less "potential" than the other.

I have to be honest, if I didn't start the thread, I would have got bored myself...we have to get the game back on track with some different shots that have great editing potential.

Potential is in the eye of the beholder ;)

I agree totally...it's but the fact remains, people have not berm bothered in using their time to create something goods when it's difficult to even get inspiration...

I'm sure any image can be made better, I just think people (including myself) have not thought the starting imager has enough potential to warrant spending time on.

The main thing is: it should not have turned into "who can make this ordinary picture look good"
