The Great Meteorological Thread

Traveling down from MK to Hastings early hours of today, it was lashing it down :(
About 3/4 of the way down, a very heavy mist descended.
But that finally gave way to a pleasant day, cloudy but hi teens.

Its not a bad evening, now either :)

It's been a cracking afternoon here, sunny and warm, actually got the back lawn cut.
A lovely evening too :D

After two rather good days when it reached a dizzying and dry +15°C, this morning is back to cold rain and scraping +7°C. It has, in fact, been raining pretty much since midnight.
I noticed on the TV weather maps that a mere 80 miles south, it's almost double that.

Mornin' all from a damp and overcast Folkestone. We had a fair amount of rain last night and into this morning.
I am expecting things to brighten up around here as we wear on into today, and also will feel quite warm and muggy in the process - but only if the sun does stay out for long enough (need to get rid of all this low cloud drizzly gunk). However, the threat of further showers will never be too far away come the afternoon.
The lawn has never looked this green and lush in a long time - a total contrast to what it was like this time last year!

I can confirm that Ian I was driving home from midnight to about 1.30 am and it was atrocious, floods everywhere, debris on the road, a bloody nightmare
Was dry here all morning then about half an hour before I finished worked the heavens opened again and I got soaked, of well save showering in these drought conditions :D

Pretty wet at hastings, from early eve (weds) till late into the night.
It was still at it when I got up too :(
The SSSI that is just beyond my (present) "work area"
Has a small pond and a tiny stream running through it, well,
this morning, when I arrived, the whole lot was under a foot or so of water.
Yep I guess it rained here, at Hastings on mud :(

I dunno about everyone in here but I'm not really liking this "sickly" muggy mild conditions. It's having the effect of making me go all menopausal. :gag:

Unless I really am having some kind of mid-life crisis! Anyway, will bid my goodnights and hope to get to see more in the way of sunshine tomorrow and more especially into Saturday - at least before the next batch of cloud and rain moves in from the Atlantic as we go into Sunday and Monday.

what's happening, not had any rain for a few days :suspect:

Oh I know that cobra has relocated way up north :D

Not liking the muggy weather either Ian, thankfully it's ftrshened up a bit here and woke up to sunshine, long may it last

Mornin' Ingrid and to everyone who is reading this.

Indeed, I, too, woke up to sunny skies at 6 am this morning, but now cloud is rushing in from the NW to fill in more of the sky as I type this at 8.45 pm.
There is a risk of local thunder and hail as showers get going over Southern, Central and Eastern England later on today. Actually, there's already some localised but very lively downpours breaking out over London right now.

Yep thats the reason
I'm about 30 miles north east of Aberdeen,
its been very very windy, and hail storms. I doubt that it hit double figures today :(
It looks as though the wind has now dropped to a subtle gale force 10,
and the clouds are braking, just as the sun is going down

I don't know where it came from, but got caught in a very heavy hail storm earlier which turned into rain causing a mini river going down the edge of the road which was bone dry prior to it. Managed upto 14c here today, but it certainly didn't feel like it!

Just looked out the window and we have the most glorious sunrise, not been out to see if we have another frost, forecast is for another dry day though :D

Mornin' all from a cool and overcast Folkestone. Still dry though. Not much to get too excited over and looks like little change for the weekend but with more in the way of dampness.
The outputs are showing subtle signs of a gradual warm up as we go into next week, though - but that may be more seasonal in nature rather than as a "dramatic" feature.

Might as well have copied and pasted my last post, a week or two ago, because nothing's changed. Still cold, wet and grey. Mind you, there was something in the Telegraph recently about forecasters predicting a washout for the Olympics in the "summer" - or what passes for it in the UK - which gives me some hope. They got it completely wrong for the past two barbecue summers, so they might get it wrong again............and we'll have blue skies and sun!

Evenin' all. So, who's looking forward to experiencing what will be our first actual "heatwave" of the season tomorrow and into Wednesday?
I would like to be able to sit out in the garden without looking like a plucked chicken but I'm not so keen on the muggy nights (which will become a regular occurance from now on).
Indeed, I can see temperatures touching the 25 C mark somewhere over Central and Southern parts of England tomorrow and perhaps even a couple more degrees higher on Wednesday.
But (there's always a "but" with my forecasts) there are a couple of exceptions; the coastal side of Eastern England as well as Eastern Scotland may continue to be hassled by low cloud and cool temperatures as winds come in from what is still a cold North Sea.
The other thing to watch out for are localised "popcorn" type thundery showers triggered off by the rising daytime temperatures, the risk of that happening mostly over Central Southern England.
All that does look like leading to settled conditions for the rest of May. Whether that'll carry on over into June is really another matter for another time but it does seem to fit in my "just-for-fun" long range forecast of a warm but rather thundery June.
But at least for now I can actually wear shorts indoors and leave the heating off!

Nay me :(

Cause this /\ is where I shall be for at least another 5 days :(
Just about hit the "teens" today, but the sea fog soon put paid to that.

I must admit that its a nice evening now though

Hi Christ! And ouch. Mind you, you do get around! Hehe.

But it's really all in the wind direction where for now it'll have a northerly or easterly component. Never does the east coast any favours but go a few miles inland and the sunshine and temperatures increases.

Been very sunny here today, reached a high of 19.7 in the garden, I wouldn't mind the odd rain shower now and again though to dampen the pollen, my hayfever is a nightmare already! But if we are going to have a decent spell, perhaps I should go out and buy a BBQ! and make use of this weird hot weather

Hi Ian you have known me long enough now, its OK to drop the "T" :D

Hehe, it's the iPads autocorrect thingy, can't get used to it so you may have to be known as the messiah for a while.

hi Michael! This is it, I think this warm weather will come as such a shock to the system we won't know where to put ourselves! I hope to start getting some decent motor bike rides on, don't like riding in cloudy and damp weather.

It has just maxed out at 23.5 C here at my home location, remarkably warm for a coastal location at this time of year but that's because winds has been coming in from inland and thus kept the obligatory cooling sea breeze at bay.
I reckon we could have squeezed out a couple more degrees if it wasn't for that random bit of medium height cloudy stuff earlier on today!
Indeed, it seems that the season of sticky nights, smelly BBQs, random ranting drunks and boy racers with their oil drums for exhausts has started.
I'm already eagerly awaiting the first French imported thunderstorm of the season.

Well, I am a very very norty boy :D

It actually hit 19.5oC up here by mid afternoon
According to the locals, this is also un common ;)
Global warming at its finest :D

Its way to hot. I hate it lol :P

On amazon right now to order a big-ass fan!

Hasn't been as summer-like today here at Folkestone due to fog rolling in from the Strait of Dover. It became quite dense at times and made it feel and look more like a late February's afternoon.
Mind you, it was bright this morning and it became bright again in the evening but very hazy.
I'm hoping that as winds come in from the near continent, most of Kent will see to clearer skies tomorrow onwards.

Didn't know you could get fans for a big-ass, that's my Wifes birthday sorted
:p

And thats you in the mire!
The fan will come in handy though, somewhere for the brown stuff to hit :D

It managed 20.5oC up here today, not to bad at all, its a tad chilly now though as the sun has gone down.

My Parents have been up at Oban for the week, apparently the locals are trying to fugure out what the bright thing in the sky is

The sun got going this afternoon which caused temperatures to reach 21.3 at my coastal location by late afternoon after a fresh and breezy morning (mist threatened to roll in from the Strait of Dover at one time). I am now the colour of a well-ripened tomato.
I'm still awaiting the first decent thunderstorm of the year, though. I love a good photogenic banger in the night.

Well yesterday was a scorcher and at 6.25am it's already 17.5c so should be nice and warm again here in north devon

Mornin' Billy and everyone reading this from what is now a very clear and sunny Folkestone.
A very weak passing cold front was just enough to cleanse the air and at the same time introducing less humid continental type air in from the south east - hence the total lack of sea mist. I reckon if I look over the Channel I'd be able to see the white on a frenchman's eye, that's how good the visibility and air quality is being.
Cor, the front porch of my west-facing house thus providing shelter from the brisk dry and warm east wind is going to be like sitting inside a blast furnace come the afternoon!

Not looked in here for a while, I've been enjoying the fine(er) weather :) Had a very pleasant few days scattered here and there. Par for the course being East Coastal, a few misty starts which sometimes never burnt off to more than hazy but mild.
I swear it reached 18°C once! Just a mile further inland, a couple more.
Now it's cooler, dull, damp and promises rain but as I'm back on nights til 8th June, yar boo sucks to you day-people :p (Sorry :) )
Quick look at the outside thermometer, 15°C. Should get a nice day's sleep. Bedroom window faces east, so I'm always glad of a dull start :)

Hi Mike, long time no hear. :D It's still fairly bright here at Folkestone but cloud is slowly thickening up as I type.
It was more March-like yesterday with low cloud and mist rolling in from the Strait of Dover. But at the same time it was very warm and sunny over North Kent (apart from a small but violent thunderstorm over Margate at 4 pm!).
Now it looks like our summer will take a break to catch it's breath as the first week of June does look distinctly cool and unsettled.
Of course, there's still very much the rest of Summer yet to come so there's still a lot to play for. :) :naughty:

Ok who turned the tap on ?
After a pleasant day it's now absolutely pouring down :suspect:

Decidedly cool. Back to sub 10°C, with the wind getting up. Rather overcast, too. I'm probably one of the few people (apart from drunken students walking home lol) who saw the sun for it's 10mins appearance between the North Sea horizon and the clouds.
I saw one of the said students trying to take a pic of the sunrise, hope his phone had better I.S. than his legs :)
