Hi Michael, hope you are well on this . . . hopefully fine day.

Mind you, around here, I've just noticed the local council gardeners going around the town with a large pressurised water container watering the flowerbeds because it's been dry (I've not seen rain since last Sunday).

You really have to appreciate the irony behind our climate. Especially since yesterday's bijou blink-and-you'd-miss-it mini-heatwavette had the effect of making everyone break out the now-quite rusty BBQs . . .

It's turning out to be a jolly pleasant morning here at Folkestone. Still plenty of sunshine amongst only patchy well broken medium height type cloud cover. If it stays like this for an hour and perhaps that brisk wind may try and ease off, it may be decent enough to sit out in the garden.

Just been into town and there he was, that said council gardener watering the plants. This was taken half an hour ago.

A jolly pleasant day in Coventry (yes even I get sent to Coventry :p)
Very heavy rain, first thing, and then showers till mid afternoon,
when the sun decided to show its face, I reckon somewhere around 35mph winds with it!
(although I was in a fairly exposed location.
All in all a typical summers day :D
 
Got up especially early for a Sunday (6 am) to check out a boot fair. But when I got there, the heavens opened and I got soaked through. It wasn't just a "heavy shower" but a monsoon type thing where it even had hail in the mix - and I was out in it!

This had prompted me to do this cartoon.

We've had a couple of showers today, nothing "serious"
and its been a pleasant late afternoon / evening :)
 
As this summer continue to struggle to even get a foot hold, especially since today turned out to be a rather boring damp and overcast type of day (although did have the occasional chinks of brightness), here's another cartoon I did earlier on today.

The rest of the week doesn't look any better over most of the UK with sunny spells and showers. Actually, the saving grace is that we seem to have lost this annoying "in your face" type wind so it may actually feel warm in any sunshine we do get.
But there's also an equal chance of picking up slow moving heavy thundery-type showers.

Not wanting to rub it in, but over here I am typing this post on my iPad while sitting outside in my front garden under blazing hot sunshine in 100% clear blue sky (apart from some distant cumulonimbus trundling over the French coast).
But I am issuing warnings for rainstorms to affect Kent on Friday morning. Up to 4 inches could fall in a few hours, that will cause disruptions to the morning rush hour if that came off.
Until then, am making the most of this sunshine we are having here.
 
Its been alternating between very heavy showers and "driving drizzle" today,
here in Fleetwood, (NW UK).
As Ian said it was quite pleasant in the sun when it briefly stopped raining though :thumbs:
It did however, accumulate to one of the heaviest down pours I have seen in a lot of years,
around 16:45 to 17:15.
The roads were rivers !

I have to admit I am very worried about coming "home" next week. At present here in Spain we have settled to typical June temperatures that rise to about 30° in the middle of the day although we do have a nice breeze thst helps to keep it bearable.

I am attending a christening in a C12 church (cold and damp) will I wear my Uggs with my summer party frock or just wellies???¿¿¿!!!

Well yesterday was a scorcher here. Had a little drizzle firsr thing and then blazing hot sunshine and a high of 30.5°c in the garden. Been raining for a while this morning, but not as heavy as I expected. Pehaps that will come later.
 
I experienced proper heat last week, going to the city that has the highest summer average daily temperatures in Europe (according to Wiki!), 41C. It was a dry heat though, so quite easy to cope with.
 
Mornin' all. Cor, that 41 C heat - whether it's of the dry or muggy type - sounds like my idea of hell, but this is me speaking as a former greenhouse worker. :D

Anyway, mornin' all you awakenin' souls from a rather damp and overcast Folkestone. Am recovering from the awesome 1.5 mm of rain that had fallen in the early hours. :thinking: :lol: :D

But be safe to those who are going to be/being/has been affected by any heavy rain about over the UK. As it stands, it does look like East Yorkshire is going to be the most affected as I type this on Friday morning.

Been a lot of disruption today around my surrounding area. Quite a few roads flooded, one of which was gushing like a waterfall and another one 3ft deep! Thankfully the brook across the road from our house is retaining ok levels, but is on a flood warning in places. Rain has stopped now.

And over here, after a damp night and morning where a total of 4.1 mm of rain had fallen, the sun came out by mid-day and lead to an afternoon of near-unbroken sunshine and a fine evening.
However, it does look like it'll be the South East's turn to get properly wet over the weekend as this low pressure system cartwheels back around towards the UK.
 
As our summer continues in it's . . . distinctive fashion.

Hi Chris! Over here it actually stayed dry and bright for most of the day today. It's only in the last hour that it became more overcast but still no rain.
I was going to give the garden a quick once over but had a bit of a headache so decided to leave it 'till later on in the week (most probably Thursday).
There is a glimmer of hope for those waiting for summer to kick in as the models has been consistent in showing a more settled and drier trend in the last week of July. All a long way off but the signs are there.

my weather gadget on the PC is telling me its "full sun" in MK.
I guess it would be if the clouds parted and the rain stopped smashing against the windows :D

:D Actually, I had very much the same thing today! After what has been a bright and dry morning, a torrential type downpour blew through at about mid-day - even came complete with lightning and hail. That 20 minutes-long storm had dropped off 10.3 mm of rain - which is a remarkable amount for a short space of time.
Seem even the Folkestone Weather Shield has buckled under the strain. :eek:
 
Yesterday was a bit interesting with "biblical rainfall" which caused flooding in parts of Dover. My Folkestone Harbour location got off lightly with 25 mm in 24 hours.

And today has turned out quite bright (once that dark-looking cloud layer broke up) and completely rain free . . . which is just as well as today is St Swithin' Day!

Love it Ian, been quite nice here today, I was up north yesterday and seems I managed to miss the torrential rain for a change :D

Actually I had forgotten that it was St. Swithins day.
It stayed largely dry here too (In fact I don't think it rained at all)
(Phew lol)
 
Hasn't been too bad a week here, tbh. Escaped the worst of the rain and even had some decent spells of sunshine. I think what's p'ng me off is the inconsistency.
Feeling very cool, though, especially in the early hours.
Word is, the jet stream is finally beginning to move north? Hope it moves north enough for my 2wks off (2nd August) :)

Now, I don't mind a drop of rain once in a while, especially around here where it's only in the last week the rain really has taken a hold (last week's torrential downpours and today's near-constant drizzle), but what I did find quite depressing about today was having to turn my hobby room lights on at 5 pm so that I can actually see what I'm supposed to be drawing! This is when the late afternoon sun start to beam into my hobby room, but today it might as well have been a mid-December's day for all I know and care.

But I'm still thinking that there will be a vast improvement in the last week of July as things try and become drier, warmer and brighter. Of course, then there's the question of that lasting into August and making that as the better month of the summer season.
 
It was raining lightly today,
when I left for the outskirts of Norfolk,
before I got half way, it was hisssssssssssssssssing down,
and continued through the afternoon, when I got home, it didn't look like
it had rained.
I guess I took it with me :D

While it has not yet reached silly humidity heat levels today and there's even a cooling sea breeze to take the edge off things, the sun really is packing a punch due to excellent visibility. I have seen lots of red topped people as they stagger painfully along my street from the nearby beach to their parked cars and flats. Ouch.
