It finally arrived, the R3 is feeling a bit sorry for itself, what with being used to being top dog in my cabinet, and the poor R5 is going into therapy!! :ROFLMAO:
My wife is doing her 250th volunteer at parkrun tomorrow so I'll take it along and give it a trial run with the runners (which is a large part of who I normally photograph so it'll be good to see how it goes).

It must be a sign. I woke up in the middle of the night with the certain knowledge that I wanted an X100V1. I don't know why. I've never ever used any of the X100 range, so I've got no idea what they are like. It's an omen, I tell you.

Having recently sold my newly purchased Sony A7RV body and 20-70 F4 lens, (as brilliant as they were, I just preferred by Nikon Z equipment, and I pretty much got for them what I paid for them - so result). So with the money I got, part of it has gone to my first ever drone - a DJI Mini 4 Pro. I've never used one in my life but always fancied giving it a try. I could crash it soon of course and destroy it, so I'll enjoy it whilst I can :ROFLMAO:

So much to learn, and it's quite scary at first - a lot of trust involved with the done and it's safety systems and return to home feature etc. - at least I'm legal with my operator ID and and Flyer ID (after sitting the test).

Obviously I don't know about your photography but I would be amazed if you are not really happy with these. I have found them tremendous.

The best tip I ever got for drone flying, if your phone / controller loses contact with the drone, just wait and don't press any buttons, it will automatically come back to it's take off point.
And I can vouch for this, we were in Wales and on the beach, I was taking some footage of my sons paddle boarding, and decided to take up to the top of the cliff to see what was there, suddenly lost contact, I just waited and 30 seconds later the drone returned on its own.

Just have to remember to set the return to home height to avoid any obstacles in the area, like trees etc

Also worth noting that the drone will immediately ascend/descend to that height before starting the return home - I had an unfortunate incident when flying under a bridge when the battery warning popped up. There was no delay at all, it just popped up, covered most of the screen, started beeping, and it was already ascending. By the time I OK'd the popup and cancelled RTH, it was already too late. DJI Refresh saved the day.

Had I thought about it I would have hit the "Pause" hardware button on the controller, or just you know, not been doing dumb stuff with a moderately low battery.
 
I couldn't resist buying something non-photography related . . . Handy everywhere and while travelling to photo-locations, I (being a certified radio ham radio builder and operator) bought a HF Ham Radio! This goes along with my other radio ham 'stuff'/HF Ham Radio so that I can always be in contact with another whether at a photo location, driving, at an Expo or lazing at home.

I don't tend to use my drone much anymore. Not really because I don't want to, just don't tend to go places to use it or can't be bothered to carry it with a big [landscape] camera bag/gear.

I did think I'd use it more with the X100f as that's two small set ups, but I've not used the X100f for landscape/sunsets either yet :ROFLMAO:
 
Hardware in itself is just materialistic - not a purpose or a result - so isn't much worth rabbiting on about, to me.

More importantly - what does what we produce with it mean? Which might be more interesting, even if harder to talk about.

But I'm on the wrong channel, obviously.

I agree, while I like the whole photography process the point for me is what it produces.
I do have a lot of kit, and it's been quite a journey. But every addition had a purpose - something specific to get a shot or footage I needed and was limited by gear. The most recent upgrade from R5 to R1 is more marginal as the R5 is so good. R1, though, brings improvements across the board that make results for hard-to-shoot assignments more reliable.
 
Early Christmas present - used 100mm macro lens ordered today. Looking forward to trying some new subjects.
 
I've now found myself buying cameras that no longer function to enhance my "editing room", please don't laugh, I wanted to display a range of old cameras to look "trendy";). Whether they work or not doesn't matter. I've become addicted to fleabay and bidding on gear that hopefully no-one else wants. Problem: I'm looking for a way to display them that is in keeping with the set-up I already have. Keeping my eyes open for a CD storage unit of a decent size. Out and about in charity shops next week.

Kodak autograph! I picked one up a couple years ago for £30. Looks great on display.

The framing through that Bessa of mine was a pain though - That's one thing I'm worried about when I get the scans back. I'm not too bad at guessing the exposure & also not bad at guessing the focus distance so those things aren't too much of a concern. The lens is a bit hazy, but I also don't think that will affect things too much.

That Voigtlander Vito does look very nice though.

I also have a Nikon FM2 with a AIS 50/1.4 (replacement from insurance for the OM2) that I haven't used yet.

Have you not stuck a roll through it? Just to see?

I'm not sure I'll keep using this Bessa - It's a £36 experiment but it's given me over 31,000 steps the past two days carrying it around and getting through 16 shots :ROFLMAO: - It's got the 6x4.5 mask with it as well as the obvious 6x9 standard size.

Not the Nikon.

I tested the meter, and the mechanism and it all "clicks" like it should.

I don't think I will ever put a roll of film through the Autograph, I bought it to look at really, not use.

I hate EvilBay - again I find myself bidding silly money for a Lens I don't need - Nikon AF VR-Nikkor 80-400mm ED - but if I can get if for £100-£200 then why not !
 
After deciding I needed to go small and light, I've been using my rx100 VA for a few months. Love that camera, so capable for it's size even if it is a touch too small for my hands. That stage is now officially over :)
I've sadly inherited a whole load of M mount glass, and a M3 which I tried and don't like that much. Looking at the earlier posts I might use it for a display as they do look good.
That lead me down the M240/M9 rabbit hole but I managed to pull myself back from the brink.
I'm not up for lugging loads of gear around any more, 1 camera and lens is my limit now but my GAS is strong and I am weak.
I'm leaning towards a Nikon ZF and a techart Z to M adapter.
I think I can do that as the M glass is tiny and I'm impressed as hell with the Nikon MF setup even if I did wish it was a bit smaller.
I had a chat with Grays, they have an adapter so I think I might select some lenses and go and visit next month to see how viable this bout of GAS is....
 
I started out more years than I can remember with a Yashica rangefinder, for some reason I thought I'd get another, ended up with a Zorki 4K, then a few more followed me home,20250104_212648.jpg
