If you're talking overhead kicks that had a big bearing on a match, look no further than Timmy Cahill's v Chelsea. Last minute, ball into the box, holds the defender off, quick feet, overhead kick, BANG....GOAL, and rescue a point on a ground where we always lose.

wasn't an overhead kick, it was a sideways scissor kick, but it was lovely

Love that one Joe - I remember when I first saw it reminded me very much of this one for Wales....

Loads of folk at work were debating whether the goal this week was the best ever and obviously folk have come up with other examples but I have to say - when it comes to the 'best' goals I always think crazy overheads / mega long range shots / amazing angles etc are less about being great goals and more about the law of averages. Players try them all the time and despite the millions that end up in row Z a few go in. Don't get me wrong there are some fantastic examples of 'dramatic' goals but they tend to be the result of one kick that comes off just right at that moment.

Give me a long drawn out well worked team goal any day or a long dribble where a player beats 5 or 6 players, even if the final touch is a tap in. I'm not going to paste examples but I just think that some goals require 30 seconds of perfection or amazing team play rather than a lottery strike.

Back to the crazy goals though as they're more fun - this one from Roberto Carlos always makes me laugh (excuse the anal American take on it) and no it's not that amazing bendy free kick.....

The sun had better be joking today. Walcott AND £8m for sterling!!!! Sterling has had a dozen decent games for an average side and we want to offer an England starter who is a proven scorer and cash??? If that is not just paper gossip then I will be amazed at the stupidity of the deal.

Huge win for Arsenal today. I'm under no illusion it was all down to Adebayor's red though. Vermaelan is not having a good start to the season. It was a mistake making him captain in my opinion.

I hope that's a joke too.

Sending our brightest potential star over to a club to swap for someone who does not have his best years ahead of him is crazy. It's a fix for right now it's not building for the future.

Walcott doesn't have his best years ahead of him? That's a crazy thing to say - he's 23!

100%. He will shortly be at his prime.

Another fantastic game from the Baggies. I think Chelsea would be grateful for a point at the moment!

And Luispool up against Wigan!! :)

Nope. I don't think he does. I think his best years are right now. It's not a play for the future like sterling is, he has 6 years on Walcott. Walcott has to adapt to the team and adjust to living in the north. Etc

Sterling has a head start on that. I think it would be a bad move.

I didn't say I'd want the deal, just that Walcott is just coming into his prime.

I know what you said. But I said I disagreed. I think he is in his prime now and doesn't have his best years ahead especially in a Liverpool shirt given the reasons above.

And that is why I called you nuts. :D

Right Norwich score and I have my bet on for united to win. Lets make it three in a row baby

Cutting it fine Joe

Not this week. United have been totally underwhelming

Rant start \

If Hughes is still in his job Monday he's the luckiest man alive and the bookies can start paying out on us being relegated. I didn't make today's match, but by all accounts sounds just like most other matches we needed to win - tactically inept, outfought, players not performing, negative. At least I can say I could not really argue about the team selection, well other than Ferdinand, who knows what's happened to Hill, player of the year last year at CB, of yeah that's right he said publicly he could not play left back as he was too slow - absolutely correctly, but we would do his best. We get murdered from every single corner, free kick - it's just unbelievable.

All he keeps saying is 'I had a big job when I came here' blah blah, well you've had plenty of time, decent budget, your team now, your selection, your results, which overall have been appalling all round. I've been through 2 relegations, and whilst they hurt I could take it as I knew the team itself was crap -but this season we have good players, we should not be where we are, the mistakes are criminal- how much is he on £3 million a year? He's had support from Fernandes, the fans everyone despite poor results but this really is too much.

Southampton remind me of how we were under Holloway in some ways, feelgood feeling, all the club together. I hope they stay up.

I still think we can stay up, we're only 5 points off safety despite are terrible start, however we need to make a change, and make it now. He's been given time and money, and not delivered.

I wish I could put it into words like that but all I felt after watching that match this afternoon was numb! :(

You know what it is? You are missing Barton!!

In a strange way, I almost saw this game as win win. Win and we might get back on track, lose and Hughes might get fired, and we might get back on track. TF has not come out and backed him as he has in the past tonight, but I fear he will still not be fired.

Anyway, Man Utd away next!

So frustrated (have family staying) as I can't follow the footy - honestly just getting the scores now :bonk:

Obviously not happy that United lost but Chelsea lost too which was good. Good win for City so that's my bad news for today.

The irony of a ABU hedge bet - As Liverpool are competing against Norwich in the league more than they are United. Please tell me (after Norwich went ahead) you placed a bet for United to win only to loose your bet but claim to be happy to loose the bet despite the fact that a Norwich win was the worse possible result for Liverpool ;)

I think this article sums up pretty well what I think of the QPR's transfer policy. Without wishing to sound too much like Wenger, a team needs to be constantly building for the future. Not adding to the squad sheet huge names that are over the hill performance wise but still command big wages. Both as a financial policy and one to ensure survival, it was a terrible decision to make.

Southampton are a fantastic team that plays with heart and commitment that can't be bought by bringing in the big signings. They nurture talent from a young age, and consequently they play with an emotional commitment to the club. That's what I see as missing from QPR. There's no sense of passion for the club from the players, and no sense of the old nurturing the next generation. Just an owner who wants success and wants it now, and a manager who was all too keen to add quantity rather than quality.

The major concern has to be what happens to the club if the worst happens and you go down. The wage bill is already crippling in relation to revenue, take away the PL payout, factor in the decline in support through the turnstiles and everything else and it could be immensely costly to the club (I seem to remember posting similar about this during the transfer window).

Utd losing is never a bad result. Norwich wont affect our final position in the league.

Nice little deflective dig though.

Don't be so pessimistic :naughty:

You give me too much credit - the psychology of the 'win/win' hedge bet system is all Joe's doing and whilst it normally works out for both of us - It would be wrong of me not to highlight the flaws in the system. ;)

You are over analysing things phil.

1) it's too early in the year to work out who Liverpool are competing against. Next you'll be saying that arsenal are competing against west brom for a CL place.

2) I was actually just looking forward to another £50 in my pocket after the last 2 results and did want them to win.

3) Liverpool won so I am happy

4) now that I'm over not winning any cash it's nice to see man united lose. Always a bonus result when that happens.

4 bullet points to tell me that I'm over analysing things :)

I see what you did there with arsenal though :naughty:
