I'm looking forward to seeing all the Swansea fans dressed as elvis

Oh and man u fans in tears

Saw all the United / City stuff already - I'm looking forward to Kenny's ramblings.

Managed a bottom 3 placing for second half of the season results.

Surely he's managed his last game ?

It's on at 11:10 up here

Have to sit through all the Celtic / Rangers bile first.

How can there not be a better camera angle for the Barton incident?

I could just go into the living room and watch English ITV on Sky but I'll wait till 11:10 and watch on STV in this room as everybody else will have gone to bed by then.

You mean you live with other people? Who's crazy enough to put up with you? :D:D

Seeing it unfold at both stadiums, there is a clip where the united fans are just about to celebrate and then you see it sucked from them!

you can't wish that kind of outcome on anyone, as enjoyable as it is to see. Unbelievable.

Don't spoil it for me Joe.

I was hoping it was dream and the last few mins didn't happen.

Its good to see fergie eat a little humble pie. A few years ago when they lost the title to Chelsea I'll never forget his words when he said "it's very difficult to beat Manchester united to the premier league title"

This year he said:

"it's not an easy league to win and anyone who wins it deserves it"

I think he is now realising that man u are no longer the certs they used to be.

Having watched it all again - I'm still gobsmacked.

Can you be more specific please Joe? A few years ago? How many times have United lost the title in that period, before today?

What are you on about ?

You've cheered me up a bit though reminding me that Chelsea finally won the league and we overcame that.

I love that table. Makes it obvious who the real flops of the league are!

Me to. I didn't want to say anything though as Joe's been going easy on me tonight.;)

But none of them did it today do that's why they aren't being slagged off today. I'm sure the day they did it they were.

Last week when Suarez hit out he got slagged off. When Rooney did the infamous elbow he got slagged off. When easier kicked Carroll he got slagged off.

There are some players (Beckham, Suarez, Terry, Rooney, Barton) who when they mess up get totally slated, yet when others do similar then its a minor act.

Just take Gerrard, getting young girls up the duff allegedly, if that had been Terry he would have been booted out the Premier League!

Read my post. I'm counting the whole season. Not just the pl. I already said there is nothing embarrassing about finding 2nd. But to not get a single trophy in 5 competitions for a team like united is embarrassing for them ...... In my opinion.

Coming 2nd was the only good thing they did all season.

Come on, Barcelona missed out on the Spanish cup, League and CL, so is it embarrassing for them too?

Last season Utd won the league with 80 points - in all but 4 (I think) PL seasons 89 points would have won the league. Teams cannot win every year!

You need to remember that Joe's whole stance on what constitutes an embarrassing season (not winning a trophy) is simply 'tailored' to exclude Liverpool who won the Carling cup despite being a laughing stock.

He's far too underhand and clever enough to know how silly it would sound if he actually played the 'we won a trophy and you didn't' card. ;)

You mean you don't know? Wow, and you were calling me the one who knew nothing about football. You don't even know when your team lost and won

that's pretty feeble Joe, even for you

He's far too underhand

That hurts!

and clever

I forgive you :D

Ok, so for liverpools season.

The premier league performance has been embarassing. Not so much the performances per se, for the most part they have played well, but lacked goals - the lack of goals has been really embarrassing as has the poor conversion of chances. Defensively we've done well, offensively - really poor, home record has been awful.

Other competitions, we have scored the goals and had some great results and performances - a trophey and a final appearance has showed success.

This makes the season very mixed. On one hand we have had an embarassing PL performance, but on the other we have had two trips to wembley. When you compare that to our last few seasons, it's a better result. But is it enough to say our season has not been a joke - I think probably not, if we had won the FA Cup too then you would have to say 2 tropheys out of a possible 3 can't constitute a bad season.

Also, I'm not comparing liverpool's season to united, whilst we won a trophey and they didn't, I would still say they had a better season than liverpool, whilst it wasn't as succssful, the fact that they were in 2 more competitions than liverpool from the start shows they are a long way ahead of them.

I'm comparing each team individually to their own expectations. For united, not finishing with any silverware will not be seen as success in the club. When they started off their targets it wouldn't have been:

1. Finish second - Oh but make it really close and do so on goal difference
2. Do not make it past the Champions League group stage
3. Get booted out of the europa league early by a nobody
4. Lose to Liverpool in the FA Cup
5. Get kicked out of the league cup by a team 35 places below them in a lower league.

No matter how you spin it - this season has been a dissapointment for united (I'll use dissapointment instead of embarassment, as like you said, I think we disagree on the definition of that term). I'm not saying your season was a dissapointment and ours wasn't. I can admit to ours being a dissapointment.

spanish cup - they made it to the final
league - they finished 2nd
CL - Semi final

Little bit different to

league cup - lost to crystal palace in QF
fa cup - 4th round
CL - didn't even make it past the group stages

If united had still not won a trophey but had final, semi final appearances in those cups then I think it would have been a different story for sure.

example?

Just take Gerrard, getting young girls up the duff allegedly, if that had been Terry he would have been booted out the Premier League!

If this is your example then I can't see how you are comparing. The gerrard pregnancy thing never even transpired to be an actual accusation. It was complete rumour and heresay - there wasn't even an actual girl coming out and saying it happened. At the same time there was a rumour that he got his wife's sister pregnant - when she doesn't even have a sister.

You're comparing a "rumour" that never materialised to John Terry who is under a legal investigation for an alleged racist incident that has been captured on camera. :cuckoo:

Hang on, isn't that the nobody that went on to reach the Final of the Europa League Cup :suspect: ;)

yup, now they are a "somebody" - although they did get thrashed 3-0  but back then they really were a nobody - especially compared to manchester united.

Isn't the terry thing a rumour, ie he is not guilty at the moment.

Well that might have been a great spectacle for the neutral but standing at the stadium of light waiting for the final whistle thinking we'd somehow pulled it off and then the silence when the citeh score came through followed by the derision of 40 odd thousand sunderland fans was absolutely numbing:shake:

No it's not a rumour. It's an allegation and a legal inquiry with video evidence and witnesses.

He's not guilty until proven but don't try to compare this with the Gerard pregnancy rumour.

Joey Barton is a thug. You can't polish a t*rd is the expression I believe - no matter how much you copy and paste Nietzsche onto your Twitter.

The reason people 'get on the band wagon' is because this isn't his first incident, nor will it be his last. Another reason people criticise him is because he is incapable of understanding or apologising for his actions.

The fact that people are defending him, saying other players get away with it is quite ludicrous. The guy has a reputation for a reason, he is not a victim of a witch hunt.

Why would we be talking about Kevin Keegan and Vinnie Jones et al?! Obviously football fans will slate what they see when it happens, don't see a player make a tool of himself and instantly go 'well Vinnie Jones did something similar'. Doesn't make any sense. His actions were inexcusable.

Don't forget, his actions could have cost his teams PL future. And he's the captain - LOL.

Did he deserver to be sent-off yesterday - well yes, and his actions afterwards were clearly not acceptable.

However, if you watch him actually play, he is not really a dirty player at all, he hardly ever goes in for tackles that will likely break someone's leg etc, and those sort of players tend to have very little said about them. Keane for example is still held in high esteem despite being far nastier on the pitch, regularly.

Joey's problem is he is high profile and just does not know when to shut-up (which should be permanently). Off the pitch he clearly had issues previously, is he calmer now, who knows...
