Yes but look who Fulham's manager was back then. Liverpool would have done well to hold on to him - especially with £100 million to spend.

My feelings are that Woy shouldn't have been sacked either, I think you need a full season to make mistakes and then show what you are going to do to correct them

Out of interest what do you think of the calls from some quarters to bring Benitez back?

well, for a start i think dalglish should be given the whole summer and into next year to improve. I don't go by this theory of sacking a manager so quickly.

Benitez, is an interesting one. When you read his report about when he left he seems to think that it was a lot to do with the backend that made his last season so poor. New owners, new back room so who knows?

Absolutely agree. I'm far from a fan of Dalglish but to expect managers to turn around a club's fortunes in a season or less is silly. You've certainly had a better season than the past couple of years by winning the carling cup even though your league position and form is poor. I'd give him until the end of this year to see what he does with summer transfers and how the first half of next season shapes up. With the amount of money being spent by the club they absolutely should be producing a top 4 finish and being competitive in other competitions though!

Sacking him would be just silly. He needs another season at least, but I have to say his signings have been questionable and he is a stroppy little git too!Realistically, they will not compete with the two Man U clubs for years, and I think Arsenal and Chelsea (when a new manager arrives) will be a fair way ahead too. I can only see them finishing top 4 next season if a few big clubs implode like Chelsea this season.

His signings have been good on paper, but some of them haven't performed well this season. But you can't say they weren't good signings when they happened.

Suarez - superb signing, he's been outstanding for us
Craig Bellamy - when he has played this season he's looked very good
Coates - hasn't hardly played but scored a belter last week - jury still out
Jose Enrique - hasn't been a failure, but I don't see him lighting up the pitch
Downing - has really started to come into his own these last few weeks and is playing really well
Henderson - average, hasn't shown the potential he had at sunderlands

Adam -he's been really dissapointing compared to when he was at blackpool
Carroll - the big price on his head makes his perfroamnces worse, but when you consider what they sold torres for and how he has performed I think caroll and 15 million is a better deal.

So really it's only been adam and carroll that have been dissapointing signings, perhaps they just wont gel in the team though?

I don't think they need to hit 4th next season to have had a successful season. Getting 5th place, with good cup performances in carling, fa and europa will still be good progression for the team. It shouldn't be about instantly turning a team around, it should be gradual progression that can be sustained.

Suarez, good player but a nasty little cheat! Is Bellamy injured, as he has looked very good and suprised he is not a regular? Think Downing and Henderson have been poor when you look at how much they cost, I think Adam has been ok but he would always look better at Blackpool (in the same way I think Arteta has been ok for us, but never hit the heights he did at Everton, but thats because he was a big player in a small team). Carroll was a silly deal imo, so only really 2 could be considered good signings, with Enrique an ok one.

suarez, downing, bellamy are all good signings. Have you seen downing the past 4 matches? He's playing better than I have seen him since he left the north west.

Coates, enrique, henderson - all average

adam and caroll bad.

So really there have only been 2 bad signings.

As for suarez being a cheat and nasty - I guess I now know what it feels like for man u fans when they have rooney, and when they had ronaldo. :) As long as he keeps playing like a ninja, he can have a starting place in my team. Genius!

Ok, not seen all Liverpools games but from what I have seen Henderson has been poor, Adam better than him. I think it was a couple of weeks ago I heard that Downing had put over the most crosses in the Prem but not had a single goal or assist???

up until a few weeks ago that was true. But he scored last week and had 2 assists against QPR

Not sure I agree with your evaluation of Suarez. His trickery is great but to have only scored 7 from 106 shots is a terrible tally. Aguero has 17 from 95, Rooney 20 from 115, RVP 26 from 133, walcott even has 6 from 70 but has provided 5 more assists than suarez, sturridge has 9 from 71...the list really does go on.

The big difference. All those players have had a team around then playing better.

Put surez in any of those teams you mentioned and his goal scoring rate would be doubled at least.

Watching the man u game. You can see fulham are going to get beat already. Teams at old Trafford just sit back and wait for manure to score its ridiculous, manure have the ball on the half way line and fulham just sit back inviting it.

Not sure who voted this 1 star but I just voted it 5 as a matter of principle...why do I bet it's someone who just doesn't like football?!

Well, I live 50 miles north of London but I know more Liverpool fans than Man U.

Oh, and when I was a kid, there was an inordinate number of Liverpool fans in London. ;)

It's just a joke really. Its an ongoing joke that man u supporters mainly live in London. :bonk:

I was being annoying

More predictable than annoying :D

Anyway, sloppy performance tonight from United despite the number of attempts and that pen at the end could have easily have been awarded.

I think the 3 points were deserved on the balance of play though and it's the old chestnut of holding on for that win when your're not at your best.

Still a few more twists to come I'm sure.

Mutually as in 'to both of us' or as in 'both to you' ?

Decent result for my happy lot at Leicester last night. Think 6 or so points and we should be safe.

the media love a spin dont they

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17540540

"When United play at home they get some advantage that other teams don't get" Vieira told BBC Sport.

Then you watch the video and the context is quite different to how this title reads. What's funny is that at the start viera says he has to be careful because what he says will be made a big splash of ..... and then that's exactly what happens. The irony

There was actually a public statement on the MCFC website blasting the reporter for his mis-representation of what Vieira said and the reporter is now banned from all MCFC press occasions I believe.

Anybody else fed up with people panic buying ?

45 mins I spent at the petrol station today.

I wouldn't have minded but there was only Kenny Dalglish ahead of me in the queue.

Taking my 7 year old daughter to Elland Road for her first ever football match tomorrow.....I'm almost as giddy as she is!!! :D

Let's hope it's a good game! Whenever I take anyone it tends to be a dire 0-0 every time! Can';t be worse than the Forest game I suppose

How's Mr Warnock getting on?

Fingers crossed she sees a good show.....she's spent a good hour today looking at photos of Elland Road Stadium on Google images!!

The jury is still out on Neil.....he's inherited a very shaky team, and that shows with their recent results. But, he's got a good record of building strong teams fairly quickly, so as messy as this one currently is (lots of loan players that are disapearing soon too), we'll know by game 10 of next season whether he's still got his magic promotion touch!!
