The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I'm loving the X-Pro 2, anyone else using one regularly?

I am considering upgrading my X-T2 to an X-T5 because the 2 is not doing so good for Autofocus for Aviating photography. Anyone got any experience of the X-T5 for this and any examples of the improvement over the 2?

I don't have experience of the X-T5, but I have an X-T4 which I've used for airshow and racetrack photography, usually with the 100-400mm and it's pretty good. I tend to use zone focus rather than tracking, and I'm generally happy with the results I'm getting.

My understanding is that the X-T5 has generally better autofocus than my camera, plus of course it has subject detection which I think includes planes.

Wonder if anyone has any thoughts on the X-T100, X-T200 or X-T20 in 2025?

The long story and the reason for asking is that we're on holiday at the moment and my other half, who likes taking 'proper' photos but is not interested in the technicalities at all won't use my XT4 or X100F because they're a faff. I do agree with her. If she wants to take a pic with either of them, I have to fanny about making sure focus mode is appropriate and exposure settings are going to work etc and I can see the enthusiasm draining from her face! Years ago, we bought a Nikon D5000 prior to our honeymoon. It got me heavily into the nerdy aspect of photopgraphy but my wife loved just being able to pick the camera up and stick it on auto or sport mode, or portrait mode or whatever and just take a photo. I'm half thinking of buying her something modern and a bit smaller that would do similar.

I do have an Olympus EM5iii that would fit the bill but I actually use that camera a lot for when I'm travelling really light and though I'd be happy for her to use it, it would still always be dialled in for me with whatever weird restrictive lens I happen to have on at the time etc. Buying another Olympus (maybe an EM10 xxx) would be an option but I would also like to explore the Fuji options. Or maybe I should buy something totally different that has no lens compatibility with my own set up to avoid any chance it becomes mine!

But anyway, what are people's thoughts on some of the more beginner-friendly Fuji options? Min. requirements would be USB charging, an EVF and very straight-forward, effective full auto mode/s. Probably keeping body only budget to under £300. I think that basically means X-T20, X-T100 or X-T200?
I looked at the X-T20 for this sort of use for my son, but they seemed to be holding their price, so I used some man maths and bought myself the camera I wanted and let him have my X-T2, which I then set up for him. Having his own camera, rather than borrowing mine worked well.

I went X-T2 to X-H2s for similar reasons - it worked very well, but needed better lenses.

A red sunflower shot against a bright sky in my garden. I had to over-expose by 3 stops to capture the detail of the flower, which gave me a berfect backdrop......

Got to say I am really enjoying the X Half and starting to not mind the £500 I paid for it. It will make for a good fun candid camera at my daughter’s wedding next march. Pro is hired for the ‘real’ photos so I will slap this in film camera mode and it can be passed around and photo cannot be checked until ‘developed’.

That sounds like the ideal way to use it tbh

Cheers. I actually very briefly owned an X-T20 as it popped up on eBay bundled with a lens that I wanted at the time and it was too good an overall deal so I bought it and sold the X-T20 very shortly after. Probably for about £200 at the time. Now they seem to be £300+ which is hard to swallow. I do remember it being a nice little camera but I barely used it and certainly didn't try any of the auto functions. I'll keep mulling this over but I'll not be following your route as I'm not ready to part with either of my cameras just yet! Maybe if an X-T6 comes out...

LUTs – Any Use?

XT5 user here, working with DxO PhotoLab 8. I've never used LUTs before, but I'm curious about their value.

Is anyone here using LUTs in their workflow? If so, which ones do you recommend, and what do you primarily use them for?

I picked up a used X-S10 over the weekend with the plan to use for stills on an upcoming trip. It's my first Fujifilm and I'm moving from a Sony A6400.

The main reason for the move was wanting an easier process, and better jpegs so I need to do less lightroom post processing. IBIS is a benefit, but the 1 downside is likely the autofocus.

It was body only, so I'm waiting on a lens, 1st one is a Sigma 30 f/1.4, then I want to get a wide prime too, 15/16mm. I will likely get a zoon lens at some point but being new to the Fuji X mount, there is a lot of reading to do. Ideally the lenses should be compact and until I manage to sell the A6400 I don't have a big budget for lens so I will be looking for used ones. Any recommendations for a walk around lens for urban and architecture?

While I was out drifting about, I came across this “Electric Top Up” unit specifically designed for cabs. I thought it was worth a Snap.

Welcome to the house of Fuji fun

For wide, I woud go with the fuji 14mm f2.8 (I had one for a while). Really nice little lens. I think @Mr Perceptive was selling one a couple of weeks ago, but not sure if it`s still available.

Thanks, alas I am a noob around these parts, so I don't have access for a few weeks.
Just keep posting, either in here or other sections. I can't remember how many you need to access the sales section.
Maybe if (it's allowed) you ask Mr P nicely, he might hold it for you ;)

I will certainly keep posting, as I see a lot of value here as someone with a lot to learn. (y)

Regarding the lens, by the time I will potentially have access I will be on my travels so I wouldn't want Mr P to lose a potential sale to someone ready to buy.

I had a fascinating, unplanned evening of Photography last Thursday. Staying in the Ardeche region of France. A forest fire broke out and I spent a fascinating hour around sunset watching the planes tackle the blaze. Thankfully all contained fairly quickly.

That last one is a cracker, with the (I'm assuming) fire fighting planes (y)
