The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I think the Nik Collection plugins are good, but these ON1 Raw 2023 Plugin bundle is far better and you get tons more to use as well.
Interesting. I’ll definitely have a look.

Kind of waiting to see if DxO heavily discount Nik for Black Friday before I make any decision so may as well look at other stuff in meantime.

Some members here might say I buy a lot of cameras NOT TRUE lol
On the editing software I have gone a bit crazy as have most of them, but once I uploaded Ventura on my Mac I only re downloaded ON1 Raw 2023 Affinity Photo and Capture one Pro 22.

You planning on adding an XT-5 to the collection?!

I'm curious to see what it ends up being and only 2 days to wait. I'm torn between the dials of the XT range as its what in a way helped me back into photography and enjoy it but I do like the idea of the stacked sensor and speed of the XH-2s.
Either way. Nothing will be being spent just yet.

I'm pretty deep into LRc now but love DxO PhotoLab too.
Just seems to elevate the files before editing beyond what LRc can do alone even using Enhance/Raw Details/super Resolution however despite trying I'm not a fan off other parts so keep jumping back and forth until I settled on my current workflow.

I did try C1 but couldn't get along with it in the time I had the trial. I get minimal time for photography and indeed later editing these days so the attempt to learn something new just didn't work.

Had most of the Topaz lot DXO Capture one Affintity Photo Pure Raw then On1 Raw 2023 with all the plugins, Photoshop Elements but now will only use the Capture one Affinity Photo and ON1 Raw. On the X-T5 I doubt I will get one as I'm happy with the X-S10 and X-T3.

Some pictures from my first outing with the X100s.

Indeed, more than happy with my XT-4 but that stacked sensor appeals. TBH the one that would make me spend money is finding an X100v or newer. Tempted for the 'pocketable' camera for work and other situations I don't want the bulk of the XT-4.
That's a lovely image of her.
Thank You.
It was largely luck. If she sees you attempting to take a photo she legs it. Very Camera shy :D
The world can't have too many pictures of dogs :D
I agree. We don't deserve them. She is my shadow.

I’ve had two before, but I’ve not really picked up a camera in anger for 18 months so I’m looking for current users to give me their opinion. I’ll compare obviously but it’s going to be a couple of weeks before I get my hands on the body
I prefer certain features of the XH1 over the XT3 but in a head to head I would always choose the XT3 as the control layout works perfectly for me.

I see the XT5 has all but been leaked ahead of time, looks pretty close to the XH2 in spec but £150 cheaper.
I guess it'll come down to ergonomic preference for a lot of folk, looks like the only thing its not getting is the XH2/XH2s upgraded EVF

I've watched a few youtube vids on the X100 range. I'm happy enough with my X100s at the mo as I've only just got it but in the future? Who knows :D

Any views from longer term users on the best or best value X100 series models?

I think 1/4,000 throughout all apertures would be nice, faster would come with an electronic shutter, face / eye detect maybe would be nice too but the lack of that can be overcome. One thing which does disappoint is the lens focusing ring operation and the lack of full time manual over ride but I suppose they're all the same?

Lovely set of shots. Went to Saltburn for the first time earlier this month and fell in love with the place

Thank you.

It is a lovely place and handy for us as it's just 15 or so minutes drive so we can get out for a while and be back home without being out too long. I recommend walking to Redcar along the beach. The beach around the Marske area is good for devils toenails :D

Very nice set of out & about captures Alan.

Had a few hours in the woods and hills today with my faithful companion. Caught this one of her doing her best 'on guard duty' whilst I was having a nice brew!

Very nice portrait style capture of your dog Rob, with good use of limited DOF.

Alan

Personally if you after value then I would suggest the X100F, the handling is much improved (with a joystick for AF points), its noticably snappier AF than previous models, takes a higher capacity battery. Also meets your face/eye detect and electronic shutter requirements.

If you want all the latest features then the X100V is the one to go for, but this is really holding its value at the moment as new supply is thin on the ground. Its lack of availability is having a knock on effect on previous X100 cameras, but as soon as supply improves I would expect to see the X100F back to the £550-£600 mark.

Manual focus has always been a bit sketchy on the X100 series.

But if you want the nicest colour rendition then IMO (and that of many others) then an original X100 is the one to go for, but that comes with a very pedestrian user interface :)

I bought the s because it seemed like a bargain and a good introduction to learn with and I'm not itching to change too soon but you never know :D

I think for me the shutter speed issues are possibly the biggest issue so far but having said that I'm not usually someone who wants to take a lot of very thin DoF shots and I do have gear that'll do that if I simply must have it :D If I was just buying into the range now, knowing what I know now after playing with the s and watching more videos about the range I may go for the F or V for the shutter speed / electronic shutter and eye/face detect but balanced against that is the inverse snobbery and simple joy of the simpler, older and cheaper models :D

Thanks.

Given your pondering on the Sony thread and 'upgrading' your A7, I exepct you'll have the X100S for a long time - won't stop you looking and researching though............. :)

I like reading about the gear and watching the reviews but keep this between me and you... I've never had any real intention of buying a new A7 series. I might have got a bit carried away and had one in my basket a couple of times, just for a minute or two, but the A7 will very likely stay until it fails. I think it's important to realise what is a want and what is a need.

Agreed, its taken me nearly 60 years to realise this!

I was tempted to go for the F, as it would have been a good pairing with my X-T2, but I am glad that I stumped up for the V. It is hard to quantify the upgraded lens, as I have not used the earlier versions, but it is better than the 23mm f2 I had for my X-T2 (since sold as surplus to requirements with an X100). The better AF and connectivity are just the icing on the cake.

I get the feeling that the X100V is going to be one of those cameras, like the original Canon 5D, that turns out to be something special, and punch above their weight when they are replaced. It has all of the X100 benefits, of size/handling/leaf shutter etc, but with a better lens. I imagine that the next X100 will have the 40MP sensor from the X-H2/T-T5, and I don't think that 40MP is needed for this sort of camera.

I often crop pictures and sometimes to 100% so I can see the appeal of higher mp counts.

With the X100s a 100% crop in PS gives me 1773 x 905 at 1.22mb which is easily enough for a full screen picture and would I suppose give a good sized print.

We walked as far as Marske along the beach, went into the town and had some excellent fish & chips (and a lovely beer) and then walked back to Saltburn. Spent 4 nights there but definitely somewhere we'll be back to.

We prefer the Redcar, Marske and Saltburn area to Whitby, more to do :D

I think the X100 series came of age with the T.

Well, allow me to put that to the test!

Making the most of another day off work and out we went again, this time in search of waterfalls. Found what I was looking for but there had been that much rainfall it wasn't the picture I'd have liked/hoped for. Happy with composition though so will revisit now I've found it.

Anyway, what did you say about dogs?!

All eyes on mums lunch!

Being self critical I missed focus a little I feel on this one. Wide open too. Must slow down and think more!

Another very nice portrait style capture of your dog Rob, looks to be quite a character.

Black ones have always taken better photographs :ROFLMAO:

If anything I think I prefer the silver as it reminds me of my Canonet, Trip and Bessa which were all the same black body and silver top and bottom combination.

She is indeed a character. A proper handful at times mind!

A question for you or indeed anyone. Doe the forum compress the images? Am I better sticking them only Flickr rather that direct upload?
It's interesting that the black ones seem more expensive than the silver ones.

I really don't care all that much :D But I suppose some people have a clear preference?
Prefer black myself. Can't actually put a finger on why mind.

Possibly as I feel they aren't as obvious and don't catch the eye as much. No idea really though when I think about it!
