The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Hi all, I've got a quick question. I have programmed some Fuji recipes that I found on the net (https://fujixweekly.com/recipes/) and was wondering if there was a quicker way to cycle through them? Right now on the XT20, I have to press the Q button, cycle through to the custom profile (which always forgets where I am so I have to restart at C1 every time) and press okay. I was wondering if there was a way I could cycle through the custom profiles with the screen on so I can see how a scene will look as I toggle through them?

Thanks

You can indeed. You can map it to a custom button if you press and hold disp/back. Choose a button to map it to and then select "Select custom setting".

After that, you can press that button and cycle through them while keeping the live view visible.

What are the best cheap-ish autofocus macro lens options?
I can't justify the cost of either the 80 or 60mm fuji lenses but might be interested in something cheaper for occasional use - thanks for any suggestions!
I'd be happy with anything used so if you have something that doesn't get much use then please let me know and put up a thread in classifieds..

Get a set of Tubes from Amazon, under £40 for the JJC ones and they work well.

Did not know this! I had a few film simulation recipes loaded but found it a pain to cycle through them so got rid of them all. Another thing that put me off is that any recipe with a custom white balance seemed to affect the Raw file as well, which I didn't want. Shot an entire morning at a race track with a Portra 400 recipe on but the Raws also had the warm WB from the jpeg recipe which was a pain to fix in LR

So, what X100 model improves on the s without spending v money? :D

Based on one trip out :D the main things that could be improved on the seem to be...

A better evf, useable on sunny days (I found it too dark.)
Lack of an electronic shutter.
Higher ISO raws.
Face/eye detect.

Maybe the v is the most significant upgrade or is another model a decent step up?

I don't want to sell the s after such a short time with it and the point was to try one without spending too much money but in the future I might upgrade.
I found the F to be a significant upgrade from the S. The viewfinder in particular is a lot better, the focussing seemed quicker, and it just seemed to handle better generally.

Thank you Jamie, I really look forward to giving this a good test soon.

It can also sound/feel a bit weird when focusing. It's generally a noisy/grindy motor anyway, but in poor light I found occasionally it would feel like it was "popping" back and forth when doing it's final fine tuning before the box turns green. It's all part of the experience... ;)

Reading some of the reviews I noticed a lot of folk say it is a legend of a lens, some love it some hate it. I think I will end up loving it, it was either this one or the f2 35mm but have already owned the f2 and had to try this one.

It has 'character' and a different colour rendering to later 35mm/33mm lenses

Can anyone confirm if live view shooting in the app works on their X-T3? Or tethered shooting on a PC? I suspect they both use the same method behind the scenes as both cause mine to crash in the same way ever since upgrading to 4.30. I was hoping 4.40 would fix it but it doesn't seem to have...

It allows me to click to focus for the first time, then becomes unresponsive and the framerate of the live view slows down, eventually freezing. The light on the camera flashes and the only way to recover is to remove the battery. Upon rebooting, all settings are lost and the camera is factory reset. Quite a big one, but not seen any mention of it elsewhere...

Thanks @trevorbray looks like an early one.

This was my old bug until I sold it last year @G.K.Jnr.

Lovely old car Alan, with plenty of character.

"As I said earlier I've never owned one of those, but I have still got a "1957 Chevrolet Bel Air" that I restored a time or two ago and is in immaculate condition now, and an old "500cc BSA Gold Star (Goldie)" that was bought new by my PA and later given to me. That's also still in immaculate condition, both of them I still use occasionally"

George. We need pictures of both.

But only taken with a Fuji camera :):fuji:

That might be a bit more difficult at the moment as I only tend to use my Sony RX units lately for one reason or another. Might just encourage me to rake out the Fujis and give them a go again.

An interesting new lens from TTArtisan. Firstly, because it's a cheaper option to the Fuji 27mm equivalent, and is also a pancake lens. Secondly, because it's TTArtisan's first AF lens. Currently £159 on Amazon.

I'm sure there will be some buyers, but since its about the same price as a used Fuji XF27mm F2.8 Mk1 (also a pancake, lighter and potentially will hold its value better), I can't see too many takers, especially as the Fuji is a very sharp lens. Personally I think that the 'non-recognised' 3rd party lens manufacturers (ie not Sigma or Tamron) should not look at copying existing lens/focal lengths but come up with more interesting lenses, a 16-23mm F2 zoom for instance (24-35mm equivalent) or ultra wide angles, pinhole lenses, telecentric macro, etc - something different.

I have the TTA 50mm f2 in Sony mount and it has issues but it's also sharp with a lot of colour and contrast. After trying that 50mm I'd be more willing to look at any of their lenses.

I have always wondered why the 3rd party manufacturers "copy" the focal lengths & apertures. Bring something new to the party!
