Not slumming it at all. Both are great cameras and they do say the best camera is the one you have. I'm just a magpie. If I bought an X-T2 or 3 which I was looking at doing, I know i'll just want the X-T4 still and end up selling the stuff I just bought to get the X-T4 and waste money.

Yeah that 85mm is a bargain. Impressed with what I've seen from it.

Yeah I go with that, the older models didn't suddenly turn to dust because newer ones appeared. The X100s is still a cracking compact and the X-T2 is still very competitive today.

Personally I favour single point and continuous focus, but that probably just habit from old DSLR days.

Just to thank you very much for the advice, which came in very helpful today at Thruxton - I got the shots I was after and really pleased with some.

I always wanted the 90, but it just never happened - I did choose the 16 1.4 over it at one point, it was either or - so for me on a tighter budget the 85 is ideal. If I only ever get the odd decent image using it, it'll be worth it. And I've already achieved that I feel [had a confirmation last week and got some lovely shots]

The 90mms my favourite fuji lens, but it would be hard to justify over the 85mm now.
 
The only downside I found with the 85 was it's tracking ability, great for portraits, not great on moving subjects.

I had a period where I was keeping it at default, but bringing masking up to around 85, but now it's set at 5 by default as I have set up an import preset. I've been very comfortable with the sharpness of my images recently, I think a decent monitor makes a huge difference.

I watched a video a while back when a YouTuber, I’m sure it was Nigel Danson, asked his viewers to edit a few of his pics to get their take on his shots. He put a few RAW files up for download - some Nikon Z files and some Fuji XT3 files. When he posted the edits one of them was a horrible, worm-riddled mess. Horribly over sharpened and generally mangled. I thought someone had smashed one his Fuji pics in LR. Turns out it was a Nikon file. Any file will fall apart if you push the sliders too far.

Zero sharpening in Lightroom, export to PS for sharpening works fine for me. I then just layer mask and brush out the sharpening where I don’t want it, sky for example.

Thanks, I'm using a 32" 4k Philips IPS, don't get me wrong, the files are mostly great, just sometimes with distant objects there's a lack of clarity, Tbh though that couldve been down to either af box being to big or the conditions. I've gotten a lot of keepers from the Fuji already, it's a really nice setup.

I did my usual test and I got a very high hit rate with the xt3 and 85v on latest fw, I was surprised Tbh. Both with single point caf and eye af.

The 90mm has a couple advantages of course, better CFD and WR. The latter never really bothers me, it's nice to have that bit of added security but I've never had a lens act up let alone fail because I shot in the rain. The closer focus is more attractive for me. 60cm vs the 80cm on the Viltrox doesn't sound like much, but if like me you really enjoy close upstill life then it does make a massive difference. Still, the 85 can get in as close as any other 85 out there and it's usually sufficient

Aye, I wonder have those who say it's not the best for tracking etc updated the FW, apparently it made a huge difference [I never used it prior to the latest FW]
 
Oh, one of the things I really like about this camera is dragging the AF point with my thumb while looking through the evf, it works so well, way better than using a joystick.

No, I was just trying to work out the ff ‘equivalencies’ so basically a ‘75’mm field of view.

Aye, it equates to something like a 75mm f/1.5 for FF [but still maintaining the same brightness you'd get at F/1 for either] , which would be quite an exotic lens, as is this Fuji F/1

I was just kidding. :) It took me a long time to realise it, but I am diverting the £££s from bodies to lenses: 50-140 and 16-80 so far and then probably a couple of primes before a 10-24. Selling off my A7ii kit should help get me there.
 
Ok so I have some more money burning a hole in my pocket.

I currently have a Fuji 18-55mm and a Viltrox 85mm.

I'm thinking of selling the 18-55mm and combining funds to buy a Samyang 12mm, Viltrox 23mm and Viltrox 33mm.

I know the gap is big between 33 and 85 but I could probably plug that at a later date with a 50mm.

Keen to hear if others would think this is a good route to go or if they have other recommendations.

Love my 18 55, dont think i could ever be without it

it never seems to get a lot of love but i really like my 27mm pancake lens ...

I did single seaters at Thruxton years ago, and was serious fun (even spinning off). Also did the Brands Hatch rally one, which was pretty insane tbh :D I got sworn at, at that one lol

I love my 18-55 but I long for wider for landscape and faster apertures at longer lengths.
This seems like a good way to get the best of both worlds and just learn to zoom more with my feet.

I'm glad he said that calling the 35 1.4 'magic' was silly, sites like DPR are riddled with people claiming this, the lens is fine, and renders really nicely but 'magic' it isn't. Good review there, that guy can make any lens sing though, always has really nice pics in his reviews

Keep the 18-55. Buy a 10-24 ;)
 
The 10-24 is a lens I was never interested in, until recently. I was never a WA shooter but when i had the 16mm I really enjoyed it and the odd time I wished it was a little wider. A nice cheap alternative though is the Samyang 12mm F2, nice lens for the money that one, MF only but at that FL manual focusing is a cinch
