I do like a mid range tele especially when hill walking and I presumed the TCL plus digital tele converters or whatever is called would give me a decent reach?

I think if you're always going to chase more extreme shallow dof and compare equivalent to ff [in general not directed at you] you're best just go ff. F2 on Apsc these days is plenty for most situations bar indoors with bad lighting and even then 1.4 tends to just do the job. I'd honestly make much more use of that Viltrox 23 1.4 than I would a 50 f/1. But, it's nice to see the option I guess ... because for the money seeing others use it is all I will have :D

Sure, but one lens cant do it all for everyone. Whether its CFD, aperture, FL, its likely a compromise.

I have money burning a hole in my pocket. I've just convinced my mate to get an X100V but to go with my X100V I'm now lusting after an X-T4 again despite selling it to get the X100V. Convince me or slap me please lol.

@YoshiK1 Keep the V, get a used XT-3, seriously I see F all between it and a T4 besides IBIS.

The Fuji X 50m f/2? I really liked that lens on my X-T2. Was a nice lens for street. Nice snap. What camera did you take this on?

TBH I was thinking to maybe just buy an X-T1 or 2. Wouldn't get the X-T3 because I'd want IBIS and would just constantly think about it to the point I'd sell the X-T3 to get the X-T4. I'm weird that way. I should just use the X100V. You said it yourself earlier that you use the X100V more than the X-T4 ;)

i love that lens, fast af small and sharp enough for me

I can't see the justification for the extra outlay on the 4 over the 3 now that I own one. I don't use ibis at all, thought I would but don't.
I was advised to get the 3 not the 4 and I ignored it. Take it from someone who paid the price, get the 3. If you're on a tripod or doing landscape, 100% get the 3.
4 has slightly better focus tracking apparently and the bigger battery but you already have the older style battery. 2 battery types are a ball ache for one system.

I can't justify selling the 4 yet, it's still too new but I hate the screen. I really hate the screen. Wish I'd gone for the 3 but don't want to take the hit on shifting the 4 on.

I'll put you out of your misery and swap you 2 X-T2 bodies for your T4, that way you'll have two cameras to sit on the shelf while you take out the V..... :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:
 
I am happy with the 30 for its size , i often hanker after a 3 .

the 4 leaves me cold. Not sure i would get on with the screen either

Trust me, you'd regret it after fiddling about with the screen :ROFLMAO:

I'm out tomorrow morning with the the t4, 5am start hoping for a sunrise.
I've also put the V in my bag again;)

I'd happily take the 50F2 over the 56 1.2 anyday too, and spend the change on another lens.

For an image like you've shown, faster aperture doesn't really play into it, as you want to keep more in focus than not. People get too obsessed with this shallow DOF thing, and dare I say? ... ... I find that a very amateur approach. That thinking if the backdrop isn't 90% melted away it's not 'pro' looking comes across very beginner-ish to me. Some of the best portrait photographers on the planet use speed lights and shoot portraits at F5.6 - F8! not to everyone's taste, neither is f/1.2 with nothing in focus bar one eye.

Matt Granger [who I'm not fond of tbh but does do some very nice portraiture work] recently posted up [only a couple days in fact] a video on stopping down:

Its the best that Fuji have done, but even my Sony Z-V1 slaughters it. If Eye-AF is important then there are other choices out there - Fuji's offer a slower pace of life!

Watch the Wex video of Amy testing the new 50mm f1. She starts babbling on about how good the eye af is on the XT-4 when it’s clearly missing badly. YouTube reviewers generally talk b*****ks, retailers even more so. The only guy I rate is Jared Polin, you have to respect someone that does a sniff test of every lens he reviews.

I find the Fuji eye tracking box to lag but it still hits even though it appears to be missing.

better than showing it to be hitting and then later finding it to be missing. but would make me more confident if it didn't lag behind in the live view .

both types (shallow dof and not) have a time and a place to be used. some backgrounds are just not pleasing and can ruin a shot if showing too clearly defined. all depends on the scene at the time. id rather have the option to stop down when needed/wanted rather not have the choice to adequately separate subject from background.

Tried an X-E3 recently and liked the iq but no the fixed screen so I'm now considering an X-T3 or X-T4. Are there any really compelling reasons for a stills shooter to go for the 4 apart from IBIS?IBIS is handy but I manage fine without it on my trusty D800 and use a tripod 75% of the time anyway. I'm shooting products and portraits mainly (75/25).

I've got my eye on an ex-display X-T3 with 18-55 from a dealer with full warranty and free half case for £1099. Can I do better?

As it's effectively secondhand it doesn't strike me as a bargain. Offer them a grand.

Yeah, I've just double checked with them and shutter count is 3k so that's well into proper used territory so I'm thinking more like £900.
