The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Yeah I was thinking this, RAM + SSD = more important than the cpu/Gpu, as anything I would be looking at will have fairly recent [at least 2-4 yr old tech tops] versions on that front. I would play games like the Witcher 3 or Tomb Raider, adventure types rather than fast paced FPS. The one I had ear-marked has just been withdrawn for no apparent reason, but have a bunch I'm eyeing up. There's some really nice looking DIY builds [from reputable sellers] but they'll not have the extra HDD or won't have wi-fi card etc - but will already have the SSD and 16GB RAM + decent cards. Probably the better route and add what I need over time, just need to check the money jar - cheers lads

I`m sure one of the builds you`re looking at will be able to add components, if you ask them. They can only say no, at the end of the day.

I will start off by apologising but this shielding is driving me insane and I feel the only way to ease my mind is to pick up the camera and bombard you guys!

Composite images has been something I have always wanted to try but being honest I have always been slightly fearful of layer masks and brushing. Now is the time to bury that fear.
I chose a simple object and only stacked 5 images in PS.
I think I need to finesse the light transition between layers using the gradient tool but for the meantime I am happy with my first ever try.

If anyone has any tips for doing composite images I am all ears

Looks pretty damn good to me, mate.
I`ve been playing around with drop shadows (for a different thing). But putting the shadow on a seperate layer can help a fair bit.

Curious what you might be working on of a similar nature :)

Yeah was thinking that, but I would have to commit to buy of course, before they'll add anything extra. I'm sussing out a few very good potentials atm, but of course, with the current lock downs and all else, it makes things tougher. Not complaining, it's the way to go, I just need to match reliable seller + appreciate restrictions + possibly have to pay courier fees on top - I'm just so used to buying in person in these instances, making me a little more wary

On a slightly sideways thought, and depending on budget and willingness to add a few bits. What about something like this refurbed dell

Haha nothing too serious ... Just putting shadows on my stormtroopers ;) I had a quick play around, and it seems to work pretty well on testing. But when you put the shadow on a totally seperate layer, you have so many options as to how you want to manipulate it .

LR + PS on SSD
LR catalog on SSD
LR catalog backup on HDD
Images on HDD

would be my preference btw
I have an i5 with a M2 ssd card plus 4TB storage sata drive 1050 gti and 16gb ram which is blindingly fast. The M2 ssd is a lot faster than the larger ssd drives. I just keep Windows and main programs, LR C1 etc on the M2 and download everything (raw files etc) to the 4TB storage.

Always amazed at the stunning detail that you obtain with this Nikon macro lens.
Another excellent piece of work George (y)

Thank you kindly fellow snapper, I sure do appreciate your reply.

The GPU s pants, and generally Dell over price Vs what you can get on the used market - obviously it depends on how much you trust the seller! But I can get much better for less on my usual used site, cheers and thanks though, do appreciate :)

Fair enough mate.
Lot of peeps selling stuff over on AVF too  I wasn`t sure if you was going used or new.

Excellent Stuart.

While on lockdown (and currently crutches) my daily walks don't take me far!! A few doors down from me is a little industrial estate, I often walk in there as being on crutches I can take my time and don't have to keep stopping to 'social distance'. Today I took an X100F, and thought I'd try and process an image in a Kodak Portra 400 Style - having spent quite a bit of time recently admiring the work of Kyle McDougall

My Mrs tried to cut the back of my hair, the result is a hybrid hillbilly / armadillo look so don’t ask me for selfies

More

More of a rats tail, anyway she’s sober today and has tidied it up a bit but now the rear is very Friar Tuck

I almost spat my coffee out @ Friar Tuck ;) .............. That deserves a Selfie, now (y)

Is that the drop shadows you were referring too previously?

Yes, mate. Pretty easy once you get the sequence remembered :)

Ah no, I do appreciate the head's up :) I'm seeing a lot people chancing selling iffy gear for bloated prices too though, trying to take advantage of this situation - with more people looking to buy entertainment gear. I'm not very well versed on PC equipment but I've been doing my research and getting the gist of it all :)
