The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Thanks, I've now found where to turn off the LCD. I can still do chimping using the playback button so we'll see how things go now.

I appear to have just obtained a Fuji X lens that's...

a) faster than f2
b) wider than 23mm

:)

Nice shot Frank fantastic detail, gotta love those fuji colours

And where did you get the 16mm from?

A fairly local independent shop had one on the shelf, amazingly. They have already sold a couple, this was the last one.

Hi peeps, just got my X-T1 to sit alongside my 5D3 for a while until I decide if i can ditch the weight. I bought the 18-135 kit, and am just wondering on what prime to get. i want it for general street, portrait, and indoor functions.

What would you suggest?

Cheers

23mm 1.4 all day long if you want a general do it all prime that happens to be a bit special.

You used that 16mm yet? Where's some pics!!! ;)

Not home till tomorrow evening, will have a proper play with it on Saturday though.

You missed off 'i just happen to have one for sale' :D

I haven't put it up yet (tomorrow!) so I think I can get away with it. Seriously though, that or I guess the 35mm 1.4 are the main options I would think.

Maybe my 35 was a dud but i didn't feel the love at all. It wasn't sharp at 1.4 and it was noisy. The 23 is a much better option for me. Much quicker, much quieter and much awesomer. :D
It's not the quietest of lenses, I agree. Though coming from Pentax where a lot of the best lenses are still screw drive, its not that bad. But I do find mine sharp at 1.4 especially compared to other lenses I've used that were 1.4. So maybe you did have a dodgy copy. Saying that, the 56 is sharper at 1.4 and images from the 23 look likewise.

Just a grab shot really but, just to demonstrate how this camera really works for me. Chose 1/250th as that's a comfortable hand holding speed for me and wanted the aperture wide open so I just let the camera sort the ISO. Pretty much straight out of camera at ISO 2000, who needs flash? :D

just ditched my Canon 5D3 and bought XT-1 with 23mm!!!!
sold off a rake of "L" glass standard zooms and longer zooms as i just didn't enjoy lugging so much stuff around all day waiting for a few good shots!
cant give you an in depth report yet as work commitments and family (dad) stuff has took priority, but i think i made a good decision going by the popularity of this thread .

David, your shots posted yesterday are proper  Great work, especially number 3 and the liney field!

 :$

Well that's very kind of you to say so mate. Really appreciate it! :) i more or less did an emergency stop when i saw the 'liney field'

Anyone using the 18mm f2 lens? Can't decide if i really need the wider 14mm or is the 18 would suit my needs? Don't really want to wnd up in the same situation as i did with the 35 as i know it's one of the older lenses. Does it perform better than the 18-55 kit lens as they're similarly priced.

Ta.

Am about to jump into the XT-1fold from being a Nikon shooter for the last decade. Done lots of research and realise that it's Fuji for me after comparing other manufacturers. Just need to sell off my gear now, I can't wait [emoji2]. Gonna plumb for the 18-135 and 10-24 just to start with. Also gonna get a Contax adapter to fit all my old lenses from my film days. Any thoughts anyone?

The 18/2 is very versatile, especially for multiple sproggs at parties, in low light :)

Thanks. I might have a further look into them then. Would certainly make for a lightweight kit if just heading out with that one lens.

Any thoughts on filters for it?

Phil, sounds like a good plan! The 10-24 isn't mentioned here very often so will be nice to have some input about it if you do go that route!

I've just recently picked up an old 18mm f/2 and much prefer it to the 18-55mm. Maybe my zoom wasn't the greatest, but I just couldn't get on with it and in the end decided to go with the 18mm despite reading that it wasn't the best.

Personally I find it way sharper than anything I shot with the 18-55mm and the focus speed is quick, quite possibly as anything else Fuji offers.

Keep your eyes peeled and you can pick them up for a really good price now, I paid less than £160.00 for mine.

Fuji XT1 firmware update. Forgive if this has been covered in an earlier thread. I have just read that there is going to be a firmware update for the XT1 in June. Due to being incredibly with a house move I have yet to update the firmware released in December last year. Do I still have to install this update before the one coming out this June? Will the June update cover everything from the earlier update?

So far all the fuji updates have been inclusive - you only ever need to install the latest one. This one will probably be the same

Cheers Dave. I will look into it more then i think. Seems like a much cheaper option to get me started.

I liked the 18mm, I found it nice and sharp and contrastry. Also, it was also very good for close ups when used on the Xpro-1. I never tried it on my XT.

Just an idea for the newer users or people considering the XT1, it maybe worth having a look through the Xpro-1 thread, especially around late 2013 and early 2014 when Fuji were giving away free lenses, of the original lenses, when purchasing the Xpro-1. if I remember correctly, there were some excellent photos taken with the original lenses in the thread, which shouldn't be sniffed at for their current prices.

WEX have the 16mm 1.4 in stock now if anyone is after one.
