The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

For some reason a A1ii doesn’t sit right with me, it’s ok when the number after the A is larger though.

Took my camera on holiday and used it one day with the 35GM. Really need to explore a smaller option for family outings (again!) . The 85 I took didn’t even make it out of the bag

My travel kit now is 20-70mm+70-200mm f4Gii.
I used to take one of 35GM or 50/1.2GM but seldom use them. I don't bother with 85mm or the 16mm unless I know I will be using them for something specific.

I have since sold the 50/1.2GM. Might get the sigma 50mm f1.2 DN..... but not really sure I want to carry that either.

20-70mm f4 is my main walkaround lens now.

I took similar shots to the other day as I was again comparing the Sony 35mm f2.8 and 40mm f2.5. These were taken with the 40mm.

This guy is very posh. I think he must have retired to here from somewhere south.

I did quite a few lens changes and when I got home I did a white door test and the sensor is clean at f22.

Had a ZVE10 with the 16-50 and a Samyang 45 1.8 for the last holiday and that worked well. Taking the big cameras is such a chore.

May pickup another ZVE10 as they’re on offer, although the lack of min SS in auto ISO is frustrating for how I work

I only generally take my 85mm for car events. Sometimes it'll go as a lighter 70-180mm option though.....
I find 85mm a PITA for car events as you have to stand quite far back and folk just constantly walk in front :headbang:

Yes true
I preferred 35GM or 50GM for this.
But I like the extra compression from 85mm but like you it's impossible to get a shot at times

Nope. I think that's why aside from night skies & the very occasional landscape my W I D E is 35mm :p :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I'm only kidding. I have A3 prints of most of my cars. They were up on a wall but got taken down when we redecorated and they never went back up. By strange coincidence I was looking at them today. They are (mostly) perspective distortion free :D

An interesting question... How many of us change lenses when out and about?

I used to change lenses a lot when out but in the last year not so much and in fact when I changed lenses at the seaside the other day I couldn't remember when I last did this. I have been thinking about taking my 24mm G plus either my new 40mm G or a 35mm out as a pair and I may do. I'm still deciding if I'm going to keep the 40mm or not. It is a good lens but a bit tighter than 35mm and as with 50 v 55mm I don't know if I can get over it or not :D
I find I don't change lenses when I'm out and about just generally shooting. I was trying to carry the 28-200m and the 100-400mm to cover a decent amount of range but what I kept finding is I wouldn't have the right lens on when I wanted so I'd switch then wish I'd have the other lens on etc. What I found I was doing was keeping the 100-400mm on the camera and just used my phone to take wide and ultra wide shots since it was much quicker however I eventually found when I didn't have any photos planned I just wasn't bothering to take a camera at all both of which bugged me when I was using my phone instead.

I really fancied the idea of an A7C with a normal range lens which would be small enough to take along with a camera and the 100-400mm range but the A7C range are a bit pricey to try that out and they're not silent either. I was trying the RX1 this way for a bit and it can be handy for its silence but it can be limiting in the shots it can take especially compared to the A9. For now I'm back to a superzoom which compromises on IQ but I like just being able to take the one lens without thinking about it since I just chuck it in a bag and take it with me when I'm not planning photos but something might come along I'm glad to have a proper camera for.

I'm liking the Mazda pictures, it's an old 2011 Mazda6 I have which I've kept for way longer than any other car but it's incredibly reliable and not seen anything newer I prefer.

Glad you're liking your 6. They are IMO a good looking car. My MX5 is a 2001. I've had three MX5's, two new ones, a black MK1 and then a red MK2 and then I had a break and drove other things. I shouldn't have sold my last new one. I had an SLK and I hated it as if fell apart around me so I sold it at great loss and ordered a Boxster and as there was a long waiting list I got the MX5 to see me through until the Boxster arrived. Sadly I thought the Boxster was soulless and fun less unless really pressing on and the "quality" was a disappointment too. On the day the MX5 was being collected I nearly changed my mind and I so wish I had. I should have kept it and sold the Boxster on which I could have done for a small profit such was the waiting list. A 4ltr Jag S replaced the Boxster and when I began to miss having a soft top I got my current used MX5. It's never broken down but it seems to be made of tissue paper and has needed constant care as things rot away and fall off.

I like the idea of an A7c but there are too many niggles for me. Why isn't it silent? I thought it had an electronic shutter option?

At the moment I'm trying to get used to this new 40mm f2.5 and it is IMO a good lens but the fact that it's noticeably tighter than my usual 35mm (if you're a nit picker or riddled with OCD, and I'm both) is triggering me.

PS.
Whilst browsing on Autotrader a few months after selling my Jag S I spotted it... up for sale with fewer miles than it had done when I sold it.

The A7C doesn't use a stacked sensor so I don't think you can use it in the electronic shutter mode without compromise the way you can mostly with a stacked sensor.

Yeah, I get that! But 85mm just looks so nice imo :)

I guess 50mm could be a good compromise but I'm not buying another lens just for cars :ROFLMAO:
My preferred is generally 50mm these days, I do sometimes use 35mm.

I've done it on occasion but don't do it often (sorry for the Nikon pics ;)

I've never printed any of my cars. I've printed my Harley (which will soon be going) but I've never put it up anywhere, my wife's not a fan ;)

Ah. I see,

I use MFT when I want silent shooting. You do get banding under some flickering artificial lights and doubtless rolling shutter. Rolling shutter doesn't affect me but the banding can.

Went to the Ford Fair and managed 2 photos, one of my own motor and one of a motor I am interested in buying. :ROFLMAO:

Had such good intentions as well, spent hours talking photography and cars with some other photographers, one of those was a guy whose wedding we shot. They shot pretty much nothing as well. :ROFLMAO:

While I like the performance and fun of these and woof woofs mx5 they wouldn’t last for me when out shooting wildlife as the dirt tracks and tracks with potential mine shafts in them they would be wrecked after a few weeks. I’m looking at 4x4s at the moment to cope with said tracks.

Mine can't even get over speed bumps :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

My MX5 has been mildly off road many many times :D but there are limits.

If it helps at all... I looked into SUV's a while back as I'm a big car fan and it's something I'd not had. I fancied a Land Rover / Range Rover of some sort or maybe the Jag equivalent and opened a thread on here. Some people castigated the Jag/LR products and recommended BMW or Audi models which when I checked had worse performance in the usual quality and reliability surveys. This seems to be ongoing as I watched a "worst ranking" just last week which featured 3 Jag/LR cars (two were mentioned together so I assume they're the same car with cosmetic and badge changes) but not my car, 3 Audi's and 2 BMW's and they went on a mini BMW rant and tagged on another BMW which was not a SUV as the least reliable car on the market today. I decided to take a chance on a used Evoque and I did inherit two issues from the previous owner (I was happy enough as it was £1,000 under market valuation) but since having those fettled it's been completely reliable and hasn't missed a beat. It too has been mildly off road. The only complaint I have with it is that the back seats don't go completely flat and that does affect how me and Mrs WW use it as we like to picnic in the back with the tailgate up or even sleep in it when camping.

I think if buying a car which was at least at some point expensive you have to expect expensive bills at least at some point but if you look after whatever you get and get it serviced and keep on top of any issues you can have a good experience but maybe not so financially as as well as servicing and consumables and repairs there's also insurance and road tax and there's always going to be depreciation :D

I won't be spending too much as it's a second car that will be a bit of a work horse. I'm looking for a Toyota Rav4 or something like that.

My missus has a 4x4 that we use when the S.T isn't suitable. She has a Suzuki Grand Vitara, it's the 2.5 litre petrol version so reasonably punchy for that sort of car, but in all honesty I hate driving it. Although that is probably an SUV thing rather than an issue with her car in particular. I have never liked SUV's I just don't like the driving position.

Rav4 is a good choice generally pretty reliable cheap parts as well.

7rm5 + 7artisans 18mm ufo
For less than 100 euros (apparently there was a scratch on mine so less than 60 euros) you go wide with the 18mm.
First impressions were:
- its a camera cap flat - so nice and thin
- a few minutes of attempting to focus (lol). There is none.
- no aperture control, its fixed
- turn your expensive camera into a point n shoot
- more focus on composition
- use iso to control speed
- a lazy (persons) lens
- surprising results...
- much cheaper than the voigtlander or other marks.

Shooting into the sun... produces some ... results

Was this the boat trip from the city centre out towards the toll bridge with the weir?

We did that last week and I saw some kingfishers!

I walked from the bus station area, headed to the canal and then followed it up to around the Sydney Gardens area before heading back through the Gardens towards town again. I got there early on a Sunday so I was passing some time for it to get busy in the centre for some street photography.

Tamron zoom announced.

No doubt all the usual people will have reviews out either now or very soon.

Had a very rare full weekend off at this time of the year so headed of to another car show. Thousands of people at this one, so decent photos weren't really going to happen but grabbed a few snaps.

A7C00431.jpg

Had a nice a surprise when we arrived and the very first car on show was my old Honda Prelude that I owned 10 years ago. Always regretted selling that car, so it was good to see that it's still on the road. It has only done 10k miles since I sold it on as well.

A7C00451.jpg

These were the star of the show, Came in from all round the world including as far away as the states.

A7C00442.jpg

This was my personal favourite car from those on display, An absolutely gleaming Audi Quattro with only 10k miles on it, can't be many of these around.

A7C00446.jpg

Much preferred the prelude without the decals when I had it.
