The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

That's a lens I looked at but I have the Sony 35mm f1.8.

Have you had the Sony f1.8? If you have I'll look forward to your comparison or just your thoughts on the Sigma. But I should really stop buying lenses :D

Yeah we have the 35 f/1.8 and the G.M for work. I just wanted something different for my hobbiest kit so instead of buying based on performance I bought based on just because I thought it looked cool,

After a week of cursing all things Ford the Capri lives and is ready for the Ford Fair on Sunday.

Also arrived home from todays wedding to find that Amazon have at last delivered my Sigma 35mm f/2, it should have been here a few days ago.

Really impressed with the overall build quality and how the lens feels to use. Will probably bring it to the ford fair with me tomorrow and put it through it's paces.

Cool

The Escort is in the lock up with no master cylinder because I took it apart yesterday as I still wasn't happy with the brakes......

We're off to the Vintage Nostalgia Festival today.

Took my A7RV to bempton cliffs recently. The tracking is simply amazing on this body. 95+% keeper rate, only A1 which I used to have I'd say is better (in Sony land anyways)
and most misses was due to the lens (200-600mm) or myself being slow at locking on.

That’s a great shot, thanks for sharing.

I think my current obsession with my new A6700 might have got a little out of hand? Only had it 6 weeks and have already purchased a fully fledged system - must stop (but it’s such a fun and small lightweight camera)

Only a wee bit ;)

A very nice bit of kit, hope you are enjoying it

I am indeed. Whilst I love my bigger Nikon Z bodies for certain applications, and I do love the pro body and amazing feature set of my Olympus micro four thirds system, the Sony is slowly taking over as my everyday carry everywhere system. It’s still image quality is better, but not massively better than the Olympus, but as I’ve said before it’s video quality, frame rates (4k 100/120p) colour depths (422 10 bit) and video AF-C frankly blows the Olympus into the weeds.

Just wish Sony had an equivalent to the excellent Olympus 300mm F4 (something akin to the superb Nikon 400mm f4.5 Z) which is almost identical in size and weight to the 300mm f4 with the same effective field of view.

There is if you have a spare £6k - 300mm f2.8

It's a sharper and better lens than the other two. Weighs about the same. Larger than Olympus but also stop faster.

There is also a Sigma 500mm f5.6 which is lighter than Sony 300GM and also very sharp.

Lovely. Benton can be a great place to visit. Are the puffins there at this time of year?

Nice, looks like there’s finally a decent grip on the A6xxx series (y)

In what respect did the 200-600 ill perform and what is the answer /replacement?
Locking on isn't always the fastest.
Once locked on its fine for tracking.

Not a lot you can do other than getting a different lens. Its "only" a G lens as supposed to GM lenses like 100-400mm or 70-200GM which I believe have dual motors which are quicker.

But it's not slow by any means.
As I said I still had an amazing hit rate.

I'll be replacing it soon, when I make up my mind on Sigma 500mm vs. Sony 300GM

Sorry Nan, I'd misread thinking Snerkler had posted. Can't argue with you there regards the 100-400, however I have the 200-600 and it's no slouch. But the 100-400 is lighter and more versatile, which why mine is being traded in soon.

the 100-400mm was my first tele lens on e-mount. It always felt a bit short for my liking.
but 200-600mm is a pain to carry around.

That's more than I've got after nearly 10 years with Sony :ROFLMAO:

The cemetery I often walk through but today I walked through the oldest part containing some graves from the 1800's, if the stone is not too weathered to read. A7 and Sony 40mm f2.5.

I took my usual bag of nuts but I didn't see a single squirrel on either the outward or homeward walk. They must have either had a better offer or been on a siesta.

Seen a couple of nice Mexico’s today. Hope yours is feeling better soon.

Sony A7RV handheld @1.3s to get some blur in windmill with Samyang 85mm f1.4ii
I am enjoying the new 8stops IBIS.... :D

WoW.

I remember I once hand held my Sigma 20mm f1.8 for 1sec on a Canon body and got a picture which stood up to pixel peeping but I don't think I could do it again :D

Took the siggy lens to the ford fair but got caught up chatting cars and never really used it other than for a few photos of the kids.

At first glance I would say it’s a little bit sharper than the 35 f/1.8 but I haven’t compared them both at f/2 to be fair. Bokeh is actually quite nice even thought it’s only f/2. I have always felt bokeh on the 35 f/1.8 is a bit busy. Skin tones using this lens are great, much better than the Sony 35 f/1.8 which I find to be a little cold.

I liked using it because it just feels good to use. The aperture ring is very easily moved which can be annoying but will prob just take getting used too. I am pretty happy with it. The 35 f/1.8 does have the advantage of having a shorter minimum focus distance which can be handy.

Interesting but massive looking.

Yeah I posted that a while back, it’s huge and heavy for something with such a narrow focal range. I know it’s f1.8 but it’d be much less bulk and weight to have two f1.8 primes (y)

An interesting question... How many of us change lenses when out and about?

I used to change lenses a lot when out but in the last year not so much and in fact when I changed lenses at the seaside the other day I couldn't remember when I last did this. I have been thinking about taking my 24mm G plus either my new 40mm G or a 35mm out as a pair and I may do. I'm still deciding if I'm going to keep the 40mm or not. It is a good lens but a bit tighter than 35mm and as with 50 v 55mm I don't know if I can get over it or not :D

How would you compare it to the A7m3?

I do often change lenses when out and about - but I do look for shots with my current lens first (IE I only change if I see a shot, and can't see an alternative I like using the current lens).

I usually just use two bodies :ROFLMAO:

I was changing between 35mm and 85mm at the Vintage Nostalgia Festival we went to though on Sunday, for the cars.... Such a pain but I wanted to be light..... but still have big apertures :)

More now than I ever did. If I'm out on a dog walk, or a day out with my wife I'll normally just take one lens but if I'm out doing photography properly I'll normally take 2 or 3.

If I'm just generally out and about (dog walk, out with my wife) weight saving is key so the thought of using something as big and heavy as the 28-45mm f1.8 isn't on the cards.

Sigma must think there's a market for it though (y)

That would be the ideal for me but I can't afford a second A1 ;)

no worries, just save your pennies now and buy a second A1ii

think my ultimate combo will be A1ii+A7CR. But I will have to win a lottery first or sell some organs.
thankfully I can enjoy organs for another year or so

I only have 2 bodies because I decided the original A& wasn't really worth selling at the time. Glad too because it's certainly handy having both. Night skies & car events especially. Landscapes isn't so bad because it's slower paced & less photos/compositions anyway.

Really missed having two bodies during our bempton cliffs visit. I normally don't mind lens changes but changing from and to the 200-600mm is a real pain in the arse.

For some reason a A1ii doesn’t sit right with me, it’s ok when the number after the A is larger though.

Took my camera on holiday and used it one day with the 35GM. Really need to explore a smaller option for family outings (again!) . The 85 I took didn’t even make it out of the bag

I only generally take my 85mm for car events. Sometimes it'll go as a lighter 70-180mm option though.....
