Lol, not sure how though, if you can get it working at f1.6 you should be able to get it working at f1.4, it’s not as though you need some fancy different techniqueIf I was a betting man, then I'd say it was user error so will try again tomorrow.
FWIW my A7III is rather hit or miss with eye detection regardless of the lens used including the 55 f1.8.
In what way is it hit and miss? There’s not much out there about the A7iii having issues although I did find one thread about front focussing and one about it sometimes not selecting the nearest eye if the face is almost square on but not quite. I’ve noticed the latter if using ‘wide’ AF so use the single point tracking to select the eye I want.FWIW my A7III is rather hit or miss with eye detection regardless of the lens used including the 55 f1.8.
AF50mm worked well today wide open, no people shots but it was quick. Looking at getting a OM-DE-M5 mk iii as love the look of them.

I will stay with Sony and was going to get another A7 III, but changed my mind so just having a look at other brands to go along side on my Sony kit.

What do you need that your sony's can't achieve?

I know it is a bad case of gas, BUT I know I am going to get another camera it's just what one. Even looked at the Sony 50mm GM lol bit to costly lol
I have the EM10-2 with 12-32mm pancake for dog walks as the camera and lens combo is 200g lighter than the A9ii body alone.I think MFT can still make sense, for me it's because they're compact, fast and can shoot silently but that's because I have an ancient A7 which is slow and doesn't have an electronic shutter. I'm not sure I'd buy a MFT camera if I had a more modern A7x as MFT might not have the speed and silent shutter advantages. Still be smaller though especially if you factor in longer lenses.
I try to only take one lens unless it’s something like motorsport where I know I’ll need more.I think the trouble with having two systems is what do you take? Or do you take it all?
I find things bad enough with my reasonably small gear count at times..... I went through a phase of taking my film camera with me and that fizzled out....
The worst is going out all night when I need to cater for sunset/sunrise and Milky Way!
We've got the same camera/lens for my wife.I have the EM10-2 with 12-32mm pancake for dog walks as the camera and lens combo is 200g lighter than the A9ii body alone.

Fingers crossed they sort itSignificant back and front focus at least half the time. Combined with the shutter button being temperamental I think sending it for checking and cleaning of the button plus AF is becoming essential.
I'd thought about picking up an A7IIIr to use while it was away, then choosing one to keep, but I'll probably just send it and make do with the wife's E-M10.

So the A6600 has a better keeper rate even with adapted lenses, that's impressiveI have 2 systems, canon 7Dii and this purchase the Sony A6600 and I mainly use my A6600 ( because of the Eye AF ) with Sigma MC-11 adapter to mount my Canon L grade lenses and sigma bazooka 150-600 contemporary canon fit.
The big difference is the keeper rate of the A6600 over the 7Dii as both produce very good IQ with A6600 slight ahead because of newer sense, AA filter not affecting IQ and properly the extra 4mp !

The Samyang 35mm’s gone back and they’re sending another, 3rd time lucky? If this one’s a dud I’m giving up on this lens and will consider other options, and maybe not even bothering with a 35mm.
It’s not a lens I use a lot, but sometimes I find that 45mm/50mm can be a touch restrictive such as in the paddock or pits and I think 35mm will work better.35mm seems to be just about my favourite these days.
As its quiet. Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 picture of what's left of the big house at out local park. The house was destroyed by fire many years ago and this is all that remains.

I hope the next one is ok.
Other than that there's always the good old Sony 35mm f2.8, 1.8 and that f1.4 GM.
