The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

So what's you verdict Vs. Leica Q?

Well the A9 is still bulkier and not as satisfying to hold than the Leica Q,

Also the digital profile correction ruins the image quality somewhat... smears the pixels and makes it look like it was shot through plastic, though there's crazy barrel distortion with it disabled..

I think the Q remains superior

No surprise really. Nikon and Canon have only released 1 full frame camera each over past 18 months where as Sony have had 3 or 4, maybe 5? Not sure. EDIT. NOT 18 months but since SEPTEMBER 2014.

Think A7iii sales have gone through the roof too.

Be interesting too see what it is in 12 months. By then I may have a Z thingy or a Sony!

Check your stats.

Check your stats.

I said maybe 4 or 5 but defiantly 3. Which is correct. It is 3 so my initial stats before the maybe are correct.

Edit... it’s 4 new cameras compared to Nikon’s one. The A7rii A7riii A7iii and A9 all came after the D750.

Edit... it’s 5. A7sii came after the D750.

But yes these were not in last 18 months. So maybe I should have just said Sony have had a lot more full frame cameras since the D750 was released hence not surprised they top the full frame market.

That's completely different to what you said though. Could say Nikon released the d750, d810, d850, d4s and d5 in the same time, so that's 5 ;)

The D810, D750 and D4S were released before the Sony ones I mentioned (earlier in 2014), but you can have the D5 and D850 lol.

D810 and d4s were a couple months earlier... So if you want to use the d750 as your benchmark I'll use the d4s and call it 5 in the same time.

Nikon Z7 looking good :D :o lol
Wonder what the spec will be like... mmmm.....

I had a little issue with on-camera flash on the A9...

I found in aperture priority mode with auto-ISO, it favours dropping the ISO down to 100 and firing flash on a high setting.

But if I put it in manual mode with auto-ISO, it favours metering the ambient first and applies flash to taste - lovely.

I don't know if this is an issue with the camera, or just an issue with my expectations - I don't know if this is typical

I've just received my 85mm f1.8 and it seems ok :D nice and sharp at f1.8 :D but I can't see any way to change the lens button function. Maybe it's not possible to reassign it on an A7?

I haven't got time to play with it today as I'm about to be busy so I'll look into it tomorrow.

This is the first time I've had 35, 50 (well...55) and 85mm FF AF lenses :D Back in my Canon days I had 20, 50 and 85mm.

All this buying as got me interested in an A7III :D My local Currys sells them but they're out of stock, they'll send me an email when they get some in.

I can't see me buying much else. Maybe a compact AF 35mm f1.8 and maybe an AF 20mm f2 at some point.

Currys.... can't you find a independent and haggle on price? ;)

There's nowhere nearby. I'd probably have to go to York or Newcastle. There used to be a Jessops and two independent camera shops in Middlesbrough but they went years ago and now all we have is Currys. I could always buy on line, that's what I usually do.

And a PS.
A day out to York or Newcastle would be a big deal for me as it's so difficult to get away for even half a day so I loath spending that precious free time traveling just to buy something.
