The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

When I was looking for one the only company in the world seemingly that had them was Digitalrev.
Apparently they have one in the warehouse with my name on it, we shall see!
Have you used the combination yet?
Same for me, tried everyone I could think of in the UK no one had one, I was bit dubious about Digitalrev as I had never used them before but everything was OK.

I've just used the phrase "fan boy" again on Luminous Landscape so I expect to be banned again at any second :D

He's posted his expectations for the new and expected to be world beating high end Nikon CSC. He may be right.

Why get so caught up in something that doesn’t even exist yet???
We can all speculate about something that no one know’s anything about but I don’t get why someone talking about Nikon or Canon gets you so hot under the collar?

I'm not hot under the collar just a little disappointed that my fellow man, grown man at that, can act in such a silly way. I may not come across as laid back but volatile but that's how I'd describe myself :D I do tend to tell it how I see it sometimes especially when someone insists that X manufacturer is the greatest ever and invented everything. A calmly typed post that just happens to include the phrase "fan boy" doesn't seem too hot in those circumstances :D

Is there any way to get the A7III to auto power off after no activity? I know it's my own stupid fault but twice now I have drained the battery by leaving it on. Smart settings are supposed to cover for human stupidity. Been used to auto power off on other cameras.

Sony bodies did have a sleep function. My A7RII has it. I'd be surprised if 3rd Gen bodies don't have it

because its awesome, everyone wants one (some people just don't know it yet) :D
Tell you what... I'll get one if it'll eye AF with my Rokkors.

Anyway, I've spent too much on gear this month, I've bought a camera and three lenses and assorted bits and pieces.

It does if you buy the techart Pro LM-EA7 adapter :D

Just checked and there's no stock.

That's a shame as I was going to order one.

Back in the real world... I've got a lens arriving Wednesday or Thursday :D

Ever since I got my 2nd Sony lens I have a small, ickle, tiny urge to get more and more lenses, almost to the point of my Canon level…..anyone want to donate me £20,000?

Could you go back to DSLR ?
What would it take for Canon or Nikon to bring you back?
Or is Mirrorless the only way now?

Last night was confession time to my family. I lined them all up and sat them comfortably opposite me and told them of my new love. It was incredibly difficult and at times I stumbled over my words.
The Olympus EM1 Mkii was sat next to its older cousin the Mki and arranged alongside were the 12-40 2.8, the 40-150 2.8 and 300 f4. The tiny 60mm macro was tucked up in bed.
“I’ve found a new love” I blurted out and with trepidation took her out of her bag. The A7Riii nestled lovingly in my hand.........

Right, back to the real world, I have taken both systems away on hols, I’ve only had the Sony for less than a month together with the 100-400. 2 days ago I gave each system a difficult test for wildlife on the move. I stood by a river in France and tried shooting swifts in flight and dragonflies in flight. Although I have produced some good BIF images with the Olympus system it simply could not match the Sony in this instance. I was unable to get anything with the EM1 Mkii and the 300, whilst the Sony, although it struggled with the demanding situation still produced some decent images.

So it’s crunch time when we get back, I can’t rationalise having these 2 systems. I have a Batis 85mm waiting for me and I need to decide on a walkaround for the Sony.
I’ll probably px the Oly 300 for it as they’re not easy to sell privately but I’m very much undecided on the walk around so I’ll spend some time looking on here and elsewhere for recommendations.

DSLR with OVF, I'd say never. I am an EVF fanboi :D
If they release a decent EVF camera with good cheap lenses I'd consider swapping. I don't get along all too well with Sony anyway. So they just have to match Sony's offering in terms of specs.
Sony's eye AF is a awesome and I only shoot A7RII. I bet it is much improved on newer Gen bodies. Any manufacturer that wants my business needs to match this. My son is very active and knowing at least 70-80% of my shots will be in perfect focus is just awesome. Right now no one gives this option.

Same, for me the last few things I was waiting for are now more than good enough, AF, battery life, handling, high quality 3rd party AF lenses.... only thing that Sony still needs to deal with is weather sealing for the pros.

Coming from 35mm SLR's and film compacts I never really liked the growth in bulk and weight and "look at me" factor that came with DSLR's and when mirrorless came along I was an early adopter. Once I'd had a bit of time with mirrorles I came to love the things that EVF's bring and later I got into old manual lenses. So, for reduced bulk and weight and the benefits of EVF's and the ability to use old lenses mirrorless is for me :D DSLR's just don't offer these things and I'd only go back with a gun to my head.
