The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I got my Nikon pre AI lenses today, 35mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.4, they're the ones with the metal scalloped focus rings. They seem fine, they're a bit soft wide open but still fine and they're built well, a bit like the early Rokkors I have. The biggest problem with them is that everything is backwards. Silly Nikon.

I just thought I'd have a look at these lenses as they're cheaper than I thought and whilst not being optically outstanding (I'd say that my Rokkors, FD's and Zuikos are sharper wide open) they're well made and have a bit of character.

I nearly bought the new 35mm f1.4 and 50mm f1.2 AIS's and I still might but I might also not bother now as £900 is a lot of money for lenses that might actually not be a whole lot better than those I have already, I do already have a 35mm f1.4 and a 50mm f1.2. Actually the biggest problem isn't the money it's getting used to everything being backwards.

PS.
I also got a "K&F Concept" adapter and the lenses fit tightly but the red dot doesn't seem to line up to anything in particular on the lenses.

Any thoughts on 25mm batis v sigma art 24mm?

Can't get a play with either so buying blind. The size/weight saving of the batis appeals but the price seems steep next to the art.

In short, will I regret shelling out extra for the batis?

They are both equally sharp lenses. I doubt you'll have an issue in terms of IQ from either.

24mm ART is a DSLR design and f1.4 which makes it huge unlike batis 25mm. If you don't need all that speed there is a rumour that samyang will announce a small 24mm f2.8 pancake lens too and that sony will release a 24mm GM lens.
So decide depending on lens speed and size.

The CZ 35 is just like the size of the Canon.

Dammmmmnnnn. At that price I'd go Batis. Thanks for the heads up!

Just looked at 24mm shots on lightroom and I tend to shoot F2.2 - F8 with it so I'd be taking on a lot of weight for something I don't use.

then perhaps consider waiting for the samyang 24mm f2.8?

I spend 75% of the time below 2.8 and there are plenty of occasions where I've had my nikon at 1.4. F5.6-8 tends to be reserved for dancefloor slow-sync shenanigans. Also, I can't really afford to wait for that long. I think the Batis is for me, cheers for the help though:)

For music, I have Mac with a Slave PC attached to it doing all the grunt work. Best of both worlds.

We use Graphi for the albums. I find their prices and deals way better. Often get 50% off albums etc

I do love the Mac but the pc horsepower for 4k Video is great.

We got our daughter a MBP and to be fair it's been no hassle at all

I also can't be 100% certain i am dead parallel to the all.

Its tricky at close distances, go outside shoot it from a few meters back. Different subjects also helps, can also try something at infinity.

This is what Im seeing when I rotate the RHS to the LHS to meet ups with the select image.

I can see what you are saying.

I will try again further away tomorrow, it's started raining now.

That said, shooting general photos it looks good, sharp and focuses accurately. CA however can be better and build quality is not as good as the 50/1.5 weirdly.

In everyday shots its highly unlikely you'll notice, its only if you frame a group tight or manage to hit your target on that 1/4 RHS. Never seen CA as bad but fairly easy to manage. I found the AF really quick which is the major plus, the OOF areas are nice and smooth, it renders really nicely imo.

Its a nice lens just bloody annoying to pay top end money for dodgy QC and ultimately why I sent it back to try the incoming Sigma at a lot less money, I really hope they release a GM version and thats better.

Looks like a keeper for me.

Managed to convince a friend to buy a A7iii today, quite easy coz he was itching to try something new I think, Canon lad.:angelic::sneaky:

He has a canon 7d2 and 100-400 and bought the a73 and 100-400 GM, nice.

Anyone want an A73?

Wilkinson site says pre-order but they had some in today and status hasn't been update so get in! The offer of £100 off is only on till midnight afaik.

So 1899 for a new body with 3 yr warranty and another 99 for an MC11 on top. Thats £100 less than anywhere else plus additional 2 yrs on the warranty. Still better than import.

Wonder how Tamron lenses can be updated via the camera and Samyang lenses can't. Strange.

I hope this is the case with the Sigma Arts too if they ever need updates etc

Perhaps something to do with this..... ;)

amron Co., Ltd. (株式会社タムロン Kabushiki-gaisha Tamuron) is a Japanese company manufacturing photographic lenses, optical components and commercial/industrial-use optics. Tamron Headquarters is located in Saitama City in the Saitama Prefecture of Japan.

Sony Corporation maintains an 11.38% share hold in Tamron

Because they can charge you 50 quid for a dock and may not have wanted to pay Sony for some sort of partnership/protocol. Sony has used Tamron designs in the past for lenses so they have history of working together like Zeiss.

Yeah, me to!
