The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I'm getting more and more into street photography and finding the a9 doesn't suit me for this discipline (I'm sure the camera is fine, it's just me who doesn't feel right with it on the street).

I think i know what you mean :D the Leica Q has been my perfect street camera to date, and I thought the A9 would replace it - it hasn't

I was considering an A6500 as back up to my A7iii but ended up getting a used Fuji X100F off of this site. It is a great camera to use for street photography ...

This is a good shout.... the Fuji X100 series is a great street camera. I have been tempted to pick one up but again holding out for now.

so did you decide not to sell the RX100 again?
Yep..... that's twice now I put it up for sale then had a change of heart...... its a nice small package vs IQ and it actually fit in a pocket. The Fuji X100 isnt a pocket camera, especially with the hoot mounted on it.
However its a thing of beauty with the Fuji hood and a brown leather Gariz half-case. :D

They have asked UPS to open investigation so just waiting to see what they say now. It’s not really Panamoz error. They sent it specifically requesting a signature on delivery.

Don’t think @snerkler got it with his D850 by any chance lol that why he hiding ha ha

I really love the look of the X-100 series, especially the T and the F but every time I look at one I compare it to a X-Pro2 and wondering……..Hmmmmma 23/2.0 on it isn’t that much more expensive bigger, it’s also a better camera and I can change lenses.

I am basically keeping my X-Pro 1 because when I pick it up I can pretend I am back in the 60’s walking around the streets of Paris.

zoom lens kind of goes against what the x100 range is designed for.
I know mmmmm I do think the digital TC option on the 100F is good, not tried it personally though so see if it massively affects IQ.

didn't use it when i had one. i think it may only work in jpeg -not sure.
i think they should have updated the lens and expect them to definitely do so for the next one. saying that - i only found it soft when focusing close up.

I am resisting buying anything more in terms of bodies... may still move on the Sony RX100 III then just wait to see what Sony's next APS-C body is like.
The next Fuji X100 may also include a big step forwards.....

The A7R3 I ordered from Panamoz has gone missing. Happy days. They were meant to stop delivery and send it straight back to sender but it looks like they just left it somewhere without any type of signature.
There was a rumour that Twist was hanging around the airport
:D

stacked sensor on the next apsc. probably gimp on the body design though

What I really want is a Sony RX1RII, that is my pocket camera dream. The problem is the price, that price is insane…can’t justify it for work because for work I don’t need that size but for travel that is amazing…..so it is very hard to justify £3k camera as a “hobby”, and a 1 trick pony with that 1 lens, but that is also my favourite lens !!!

Why don’t they make that lens separately for the A7? 35mm F/2.0 ! The same sensor, the flange distance should be the same to the elements, put a mount on it.

I have a gut feeling Sony will bring out a FE 35mm f1.8 eventually, guess that's as close as you'll get to the 35mm f2.0 lens.

I've looked at this camera a few times but what always stops me is the price and thinking that my A7+35mm f2.8 isn't really all that much bigger, not that much bigger to make a difference anyway and the A7 offers the use of different lenses.

The RX1's look very nice though and have a very nice lens... I can see the appeal :D

I think it's been said that the RX1 lens wont fit an A7 for some technical reason but what exactly that reason is I can't remember :D Someone could make a very good and quite compact 35mm f2 and I hope they do one day :D

Goodbye Canon! (Kinda)

Hello Sony :)

Last night I pulled the trigger on an A7R3, 24-70 f/2.8 GM, 100-400 GM :)

Can't wait to have a proper play about with them
And I hope you'll be very happy with your new kit :D What made you decide to go from Canon to Sony / DSLR to mirrorless?

If you haven't use mirrorless before maybe the exposure and focusing aids will be a nice surprise for you :D

Me too, it was a pretty expensive switch although 'some' of my Canon gear will be partly funding it.

I honestly think Canon/Nikon are being left behind big time when you compare what Sony are bringing out.

I mainly shoot wildlife so it was a toss up between the A9 & A7R3... 20FPS is amazing, do I need it? Maybe. For me it's all about detail so 42mp while having 10FPS was the deal breaker. I might regret it, time will tell. That's one reason why I'm keeping my Canon 7Dmk2 and 400mm f/2.8

I need to test the Metabones Mk4 and Sigma MC-11 back to back and see which is better as I'd like to use my 400mm.

A few things I really like are the EVF, silent shhoting and eye tracking, the menu's are absolutely horrible though.

I wouldn't be surprised if the flange distance on the RX1 series was smaller. But I agree with the general sentiment here we need a small-ish 35mm f/1.8-2 lens and RX1RII is silly expensive

From what I remember reading the RX1's lens is a lot closer to the sensor hence you can't just put an FE mount on the lens and mount it on an A7, you'd need a corrective lens in the mount too.

Just on the long running 35mm f1.8/2 thing... Although I'd love to see one I think the days of compact f1.8/2 lenses are very possibly long gone as making a compact one leads to optical compromises, discussions about bokeh, the gnashing of teeth on forums and the internet melting and despite what we think manufacturers do listen and they wont want a tidal wave of criticism. I think if and when we see an Sony/Sigma/whoever 35mm f1.8/2 it'll not be all that compact but it will be quite good.

I like my Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 and it's quite compact but it has no AF or IS and people whinge about the optical performance and the bokeh, the Loxia is f2 quite compact and a lot more expensive but it too apparently has some optical compromises particularly at wider apertures, there are reasons why the good 35mm f1.x lenses are big fat lumps.

canon EF 35mm f2 IS USM is not a big fat lump.

I think the Sony FE 35mm f1.8 won't be that much bigger/smaller than the Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8 :D lol

No it isn't but from what I've read it's soft in the corners until you stop it down quite a bit.

If that's the case I'd very probably still be happy but others probably wouldn't be.

They are the worst courier service ever. They somehow manage to loose even signed for deliveries. Home office uses them and they managed to loose the passport that was supposed to be signed for. The investigation is absolutely useless and will turn up nothing. The worst courier company ever. Pigeons would be more reliable!!

So Panamoz have asked UPS to open a case to investigate. I wonder how long this will drag out for!

I hope you get it sorted soon but just so you know, I had UPS damage an item in transit recently, they opened and investigation and the hole thing went on for months!
I guess in your case, you can always ask Panamoz to send you another one and then they can wait/deal with UPS and the missing camera?

I will see how it goes but if it looks like dragging on I will ask for a refund whilst they sort it - at least I'm also covered by my credit card. Its just a pain!
