The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Nope. Does any DSLR even have good live view lol

Nope, should have done more research first to make a better and informed decision.
But as @ twist keeps pointing out, if you don’t gel with it, it’s fine!

My argument is that you can test out before you buy and come to a reasonable choice based off some reviews, videos and hands on testing. Ultimately the choice is yours.

In this case it’s more clear cut, he’s following is friends choice and now has a lust for high MP.
Surely when somebody is spending £2-3k of money, would check out ALL the options before committing?

I had a quick read, the first thing I found was

"Live view focus on the D850 is pretty fast. You won't be capturing any moving subjects with it of course, but for single snaps it's pretty good and faster than the D810."

I think it still using CDAF not PDAF, so probably not so good for AF-C

Holding a D850 to use with live view won’t be overly practical. It’s a big old tank.

Definitely CDAF. One of my biggest gripes with Nikon, even my iPhone can get focus faster than Nikon LV.

So after some extended use including real world paid work I find the 693 point af system coupled with the eye/face AF is really something I wouldn't ever want to go back to not having

Overall I'm extremely happy and really looking forward to shooting this season of weddings with the gear. The fact that it all doubles as my videography setup is a nice bonus :)

I'm looking forward to my next wedding with the Sony gear :) bring it on!

Now the main reason Rookies said he was going to Sony (I can’t be arsed to search for it) is for live view as he uses it a lot and it’s not good in Nikon D500. Has the 850 got new and improved live view?

It's improved but it's but really hard to beat pre-D850 liveview :P

Given the choice I'd pick the D850 before the A7III :)

especially if it wasn't costing me anything.

Why though, there is very little between them but the Sony has the mirrorless benefits etc :)

The feel of it. The way the buttons laid out you need to try it then you know why. If I was doing lots of high MP that my choice of camera

Also it easy to grip more room from holding zoom and buttons next to top screen in perfect places

The A7R3 would make more sense as you will be invested in the glass!!

Well that’s a decision you will need to make if you ever want high MP!

Lol it’s ok, I don’t need to try it. I rather chop my own gonads off than go back to DSLR technology :D lol

Then you do have excuse to move back to Sony as your D500 or a D750 would also give you “easy to grip more room from holding zoom and buttons next to top screen in perfect places” :D

Well guys I said my bit. Going have a long break from here now like I did before not last time the time before that most of last year I reckon it was.

na choose the a7r3 now that u are in the sony system. i would not switch systems for teh d850. the a7r3 is as good as the d850 if not better due to IBIS which HELPS A TON for those MP's

So have verified my card with PayPal, sent them ID, proof of address, proof of despatch of told items and now it’s all ‘under review’
