The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

So to buy the A7riii plus lenses to replace what I have for the Nikon would cost me about £7500 if everything was bought grey

I think I’ll be staying a Nikon shooter ;)

The possibility of buying something else is partly why I mostly have old film era primes. "All" I have that's native is the 28-70mm, 35mm f2.8, 55mm f1.8 and two Voigtlanders. That's "only" five lenses, I had seven when I had Canon DSLR's.

Another snow picture.

The walk to the shops. A7 and Voigtlander 35mm, f8.

After a busy and stressful few days I get a few hours off so we're off to a hotel in North Yorkshire.

Yipeee!

Whenever i see ref to G Master lenses it evokes the feeling of androcentrism in me like a hierarchy king lol.:D

I got to say what we seeing about this A7iii seem like it going be a good camera at a good price. But for £500 more at the moment you can get the A7Riii so wondering how much the A7iii will be grey.

I still don't see the point of these G master glasses when like some of you say up above there some good Sony Ziess glasses..

Andrew point me to where i can buy an A7Riii for £500 and i will be there in an instant :rolleyes::ROFLMAO::LOL:

It's always been like this with Sony, the camera is cheap, the real money is in the lenses and accessories.

Wasn't it the case with PS3 also where they made loss on console and made a killing on games?
sounds like habit of Sony :p

All depends if you want the extra resolution from the R.
That £500-£600 could buy you a lens, lighting or battery grip etc.
Then consider the extra processing power and storage for those big a7riii files.

Because the GM lenses have Focus Hold buttons and are built to a higher standard. :)

The zeiss are built to the same standard. They are priced just like GM class lenses too. They are basically GM equivalent whether you like it or not.
I don't think focus hold button is the feature that classifies a lens as GM or not.

storage is cheap and some may already have the processing power needed ;)

The Zeiss lenses are Zeiss designed lenses which are built by Sony, they are not built in the same way when compared to Sony's own GM lenses. To be honest we'd be splitting hairs to notice any big IQ differences between the two ;) so its a mute point.
However it has been known that their is a greater copy to copy variation on the Zeiss lenses, so you'd need to watch out for this as some are softer than others.
Your right in that the focus AF hold button doesn't classify a lens being a GM, standard Sony G lenses also have a AF hold buttons, however I personally would want this function on future GM lenses.... its great for Eye-AF.

Sony Zeiss are designed and manufactured by Sony while keeping to standards of zeiss and also licensing their T* magic. Sony zeiss 35mm/1.4 is known to have some variation in copies but I don't think it has anything to do with it being zeiss badged. The GM lenses and zeiss lenses are probably designed and manufactured by same people for all you know.

AF hold button are on lenses where its possible to fit it. I don't think it has anything to do with GM, G, zeiss or peasant class. My 85mm f/1.8 has it too.

Playing about with the Sony remote software for android/ios, a tripod and some willing birds. Quite a handy little app for free, pity you can't choose the focus points but it is free so can't complain too much.

Everywhere was iced over so decided to pour some boiling water over the iced over Bird bath and within a few minutes there were blue tits, chaffinches, robins and starlings fighting over it.

As you can see there was one clear winner.

Good timing there with the activity around the bath.

I did something similar a while ago with my old NEX5 and Tokina 80-200 setup on a tripod facing our bird table and triggering a flashgun behind the table with the on-camera flash. I had to pre-focus on the table (MF lens) but it worked well to give portrait lighting to the shots;

Thanks - that must a common pose for that type of bird. I have a picture that is near identical in terms of pose and look.

On paper, the A7iii looks to be the camera I've been waiting for in order to switch my main cameras to mirrorless later this year. I've liked the Sony lenses I've used and now that Sigma has announced E mount I'd be sure I could swap my system without much of a financial hit. We'll have 4 bodies, about 10 lenses and loads of peripherals to get rid of which will be a bit of a pain, though.

Been primarily shooting Nikon for 14 years but really frustrated that they haven't produced a decent mirrorless body for my glass.

I just changed Deci. You will absolutely love it !

Does anyone have any idea what the aperture settings do within the lens manager software (for the Samyang 35mm 1.4) whilst using the dock?

I believe when I initially connected it there was a plus 4 setting on it. I reset it to zero but I have no idea what its for lol

Sony have only been in the business of interchangeable lens cameras for 12 years (A100 was released in 2006), so while there will be some uptake from older experienced photographers who had been using Minolta gear, you would expect the demographic to be younger, as those that had existing gear 13 years ago would, in the main, stay with the brand they had.
