Good spot, was aware of this but yeah - quite a difference.
I can get the 28-70 for £146 new, so it's almost a no-brainer, but sadly my Sony contact's discount doesn't extend to Zeiss lenses so can't get a good price on the Loxia (Sony-Zeiss is fine...)
From reviews, the 28-70mm is "Good" unless you pixel-peep or shoot RAW (so distortion isn't corrected).
I think that 28-70mm shots stand up to pixel peeping well. I got my A7 as a kit with this lens as I thought it might come in handy but to date I haven't used it outside of the house and garden as I mostly use primes but I have looked closely at some test shots and they look good to me. Also corrections aren't a problem for me when shooting raw as there's a profile in CS5 for this lens.
If you're thinking about getting the kit lens and would like a raw or two to play with I'd be happy to drop box you a file or two, just let me know. Other than that there may be some files on line on a review site somewhere that you could download and play with.
I don't use zooms a lot, hardly ever in fact but the Sony 28-70mm does look to be a perfectly respectable lens
