The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Good spot, was aware of this but yeah - quite a difference.
I can get the 28-70 for £146 new, so it's almost a no-brainer, but sadly my Sony contact's discount doesn't extend to Zeiss lenses so can't get a good price on the Loxia (Sony-Zeiss is fine...)

From reviews, the 28-70mm is "Good" unless you pixel-peep or shoot RAW (so distortion isn't corrected).

I think that 28-70mm shots stand up to pixel peeping well. I got my A7 as a kit with this lens as I thought it might come in handy but to date I haven't used it outside of the house and garden as I mostly use primes but I have looked closely at some test shots and they look good to me. Also corrections aren't a problem for me when shooting raw as there's a profile in CS5 for this lens.

If you're thinking about getting the kit lens and would like a raw or two to play with I'd be happy to drop box you a file or two, just let me know. Other than that there may be some files on line on a review site somewhere that you could download and play with.

I don't use zooms a lot, hardly ever in fact but the Sony 28-70mm does look to be a perfectly respectable lens :D

apparently Sony are bring all the gm lenses to the photography show.................

@twist yep only good close up and as a boost any further than 2 metres away they are useless to be fair but they do give off a nice light and with barn doors can give cool effects....

yeah it has a screw adapter on the end so just bang it on a swivel head in the studio and move it around it works ok to be honest though I have a clone also called a magic tube which is just as good and a 1/3 of the price

Yeah, thats the reason I asked, I wouldnt spend that much on an led light and I found the cheapo clone so thought Id try it.

Wife and I are taking my daughter (10), shes begging for another lens for her g7...only if a g3 sells to fund it I said..I look forward to having a play with the new sony kit.

I'm scared to go actually. I'm currently in rehab trying to recover and quite gas syndrome.

Goin to the photo show is like spending the weekend in a Crack house..

I got a mild attack of gas and bought some stuff, non Sony though :D I bought a Panasonic G7 and 12-35mm f2.8 to use when I'm with GF on days out and holidays. Have to say that although it wont match my Sony kit for ultimate pixel peeping quality it's scarily good and the eye tracking! My God! How do cameras do this? Seems like Voodoo!

I've only ever been to one show, went to a HiFi show in the 70's. Wouldn't mind going to a photography event but unless one is held on my doorstep I can't see me getting the chance to go.

I'm not based near there either. So I can't be asked to go on my own

You should check out the Sony A7RII's AF-C Eye-Tracking abilities ;) it's awesome!

Seems the sigma fe adapter looked very good when J Lanier was testing them. Eye focus tracking worked as well. Think he was using the 50mm art on the a7rii.

If they can get it working on canon lenses that would be amazing.....

There seem to be a few conflicting reports on this.

I mean I can't see it working (at least initially) with eye focus on Canon, but if it could do the same as Metabones with Canon that would be enough for me to buy it. Really hoping this is the case, but I guess we'll need to wait until it's out in the wild to find out for sure.

I'll hold off on buying an adapter (sent my Commlite back) until this is clear.

yeah sorry I ment like l lenses mate sorry wasn't clear

last night i tested the af of both the 5d3 and r2 in my room with just my phone screen lighting up a dull complete pitch dark scene and the r2 seemed to lock on focus twice out of 10 tries while my 5d3 failed all the time.

On decent light the 5d3 locks on focus slightly faster then my r2.

I was testing 25mm batis lens vs sigma art 35mm canon mount lens.

proper surprised the 5d3 failed to lock focus mate... hope the x2 is better lol..... did you have the af assist on both?
