watch from 00:37:55 - Discussion: Is Sony the KING of Mirrorless?
So what? ;)

But is Sony the King of mirrorless? Of course this depends. If you're loaded, have to have full frame and need the best AF of any mirrorless then yes. If you want a lighter kit, and/or don't have have thousands to spend then no ;)

I'm probably in a tiny minority here but for PLM wanting is a compact FF camera to use a compact lens on the Sony A7 series is pretty much it.

The list of compact FF and prime lens packages is rather short and really the only other systems are Leica at much more cost or a crop system with a speedbooster. Until Canikon enter the market there's really nothing else for me for when I want to use a camera and lens to get the best combination of bulk and quality. For me in the 28 to 85mm sort of prime range the Sony system isn't even all that expensive :D

What’s PLM?

How you know better iso

Because that’s what the Sony A9 sensor was designed to do, at base ISO it’s probably no better than the A7 II, but mid to high ISO you will probably get less noise. :)
The negative of this is less DR abilities.

faster af speed. better build quality and weather sealing

Thought it had same AF system as A9? Build and weather sealing don’t make it any better for sports IMO. But if the focus system is much better then I guess I need more cash lol

Similar, not that same. A9 refreshes AF at 60 calculations per second. Not sure if the A7III does this

I guess the only way around this is to buy one and try it lol.

It’s like the D850 and D500 inheriting the D5’s AF system yet they’re not quite as good. There’s other things that contribute to AF speed and accuracy, the pro bodies will likely have better components.

I’d be surprised if the A9 is “much” better, but it will be better. The A9’s system is probably overkill for equestrian, in fact it’s probably overkill for most things. I wouldn’t get too hung up on it tbh, with Nikon the D750 and D500 they have been more than adequate for you and at no time do I recall you thinking you need the D5 ;)

True about the D5! The D750 has been up to the task but we all know what it’s like with GAS.

I was tempted by the A7 ages back but now even more so!!

Yeah I get that, what I was meaning though is that the A7iii will be more than adequate and you don’t have to worry about getting the A9 :)

I believe in normal conditions it’ll be more than adequate however not sure how it will cope in low light situations.
I think the Sony A9 is great but it’s probably overkill for most uses including myself :D

3.46 onwards of the T.Northrup vid re the focus versus A9

I won't believe that till I've tried it.
Me neither, not in tricky situations. Proof is in the pudding though I guess.

Does that mean the A7riii is also said to be better than the D750 or do they reckon the A7iii’s AF is going to be better than the A7riii?

Have Sony fixed the AF point illumination (or rather lack of) when using the joystick yet?

Just watched. He also says that the A7iii is better than D750.
He does get the chance to try them all it seems.he was always a canon 5diii shooter for his pro work but he loves mirrorless more now i think

My old 5d3 focused on the dark lol

The d750 will focus in lower ev all the way across its frame, not just sensitive in the center like the 5d3. Nikon 3d tracking is class leading.

Both have very good af systems in slightly different ways..... both better than a7rii at caf.

Yea 5d3 I'm on about. It was class leading at the time. You can slate its sensor but it's af was ahead of its time.

So much praise about d750 af. Its unbelievable really.

How is it unbelievable? You praise the a9 af but it's the first Sony to beat d750 af at 3x the price and 4yrs difference. Or do you just not like to hear the truth? Its still a stupidly good camera for very little money. AF and IQ is still up with the best cameras.

No I believe the a7r2 was the first to beat the d750
