The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Well that's taught me something, for some reason I'd got it in my head that the A7riii has also inherited the AF system from the A9 which clearly it hasn't

Correct, Sony seem to have updated their A7 III and A7R II bodies the same way Apple seem to update their devices..... 2x better in performance compared to previous generations.
I would also say that although the A7 III has got the same number of focus points like the A9, it still wont be as quick / accurate due to the A9's faster read-out.

Tony Northrup confirmed this in his video yet Jarad Froknows latest video said it is exactly the same..... confusing. :D

This used to be a sensible thread, what happened?.
Light hearted banter. Good to see for a change rather than people getting their back up over differences in opinion. It's actually refreshing to see on a forum! Got a problem Jabroni? LOL

And this is the problem with these YouTube bloggers, some say there's an AA FILTER others don't. These are fairly important things and doesn't do much for their credibility.

Agreed, off the top of my head I don't think the A7 III or A9 have a Optical low-pass filter (AA) but they do have a normal Optical filter which protects the sensor. :D

That means that Sony still haven't brought out a body to convince me to change then unfortunately.

Hang in there, it will come... :)
What I would say to all that are considering the Sony system, test the bodies out and take reviews with a pinch of salt.
In the past I bought certain Sony bodies without really testing them fully, only to be disappointed with certain aspects/specifications.
Even though I rave on about the Sony A9, it's still got a few things which i would like Sony to address via firmware updates...... (most of which are now in the A7 III / A7R III).

- Anti-Flicker Mode
- SD Card write and buffer indicators for both SD cards
- Better touch screen functionality
- Burst shot grouping and review function
- Slog1/2 and HDR Video Profiles

And any additional improvements to IQ/AF etc.

As you can see, nothing too important but little things which could easily be implemented.

I think if you just download one of the raws. You can tell if it has an AA filter or not? If or whether the overall sensor is sharp enough for your needs as AA filter reduces sharpness but prevents mourie.

Agree with this, I think the a7iii will be very good, unfortunately if you want a9 af you have to pay for it, just like 1dx/d5.
Indeed. But you lot don't need a9 af but something comparable to a d750 in low light and tracking?

Hopefully the mk3 does have comparable af tracking and locking

I think the Sony A7 III will be great of most users but as mentioned best to test it out first :)
It's shaping up to be a interesting battle..... bring it on Canon & Nikon.

And on that note I think Nikon could offer something better/different from Sony if they decided to go down this route and it is technically possible.
Imagine a Nikon D850 which still contained it mirror system but also had a hybrid-EVF so the benefits of a EVF and OVF.
So when its in mirror-up mirrorless mode its like a Sony A9, when mirror is activated its like a traditional DSLR? :D

Haha even I don't need Sony A9 AF, its sooooooo fast! :D

TBH I'd rather Nikon hurry up and get something released, it would save me a lot of money ;)

Test it out
I probably will when the price comes down and there's more used lenses around. You never know though, by the time that happens Nikon might have released something.

A9 doesn't interest me tbh, my next 'upgrade' will be for a high res body. I would like to downsize and a high res body would allow me to use a lighter 100-400mm type lens and still give me the same effective reach as my 150-600mm on the D750. There's no doubt that as much as I love my Olly in an ideal world I'd love a FF body for travel, all this combined is the only reason I've even contemplated the A7 series. At the moment it's outside my reach price wise anyway so it's not something that I'm going to be able to do, just been considering long term options (y)

My local camera shop has a used 70-200 G Master up for sale.... hhhhmmmmmmmm

I think the light hearted banter is a bit borderline some times, and what the hell is a Jabroni, ( and I don't have a problem just saying.)
