The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

LOL YOURE JOKING?

Go bhphoto and put in an order for something that costs the same as A7III (since you can't order it yet). I picked Sony A7S and here's how much they'll charge:

Subtotal: $1,998.00
Shipping starting from$32.66
Duties & Taxes $432.13

You Pay: $2,462.79

Since you pay duties up front you pay nothing when you recieve the pack.

That converts to £1,773.13 (using xe.com), and on a good day you could probably get it cheaper.

So yeah UK pricing is a rip-off

As opposed to 2k for the Nikon stuff.

Not worth it for 4K, ibis and EVF
This goes for all in here. If you like your d750 just stick with it instead of dilly dally on Sony gear.

Its clear the d750 is fine and you don't need evf etc etc so why look at Sony?

Are you hoping a7 cameras go down in price and sell for a tenner? And a gm lens to be worth a fiver?

A9 will be worth a tenner in a few weeks:p

Didn’t say that. I have an A7ii and 16-35mm at the minute so know their pricing. Just assessing my next move and stating that whilst the A7iii looks amazing - it doesn’t represent good value against the competition.

People compare d750 with A whatever and come up with same arguments

Ahh its too expensive

Ahh the lenses are expensive

Ahh the battery life sucks

Ahh the DPDAPFNFHFH AF mode sucks

Ahh there is is no 35 ART lens the size of a lens cap

etc etc etc

Stick with your D750!!

LOL!!!!

You could sell your a7mk2 for i dunno? 800 quid? and then use the 1200 for the mk3

Anyways this thread is blowing like crazy whilst the canikon threads are dead bruv.

hehe anyways you all know half the stuff i post is tongue on cheek.

On a serious note.

When does teh 105 and 135 SIgma lenses release?

And have no lenses? :)

I would love to but it just wouldn’t make financial sense for me.
you have a lens already dont u?

if not build your lens collection first.

Ive been in this game for years, i diddnt just up and buy all these gear yesterday lol. i tend to buy 2 lenses a year plus a body if worth of an update and when i buy bodies i sell the old ones.

I must say the bokeh on that 35 vognale lens or whatever you call is ugly imo

On messy backgrounds at f1.x yes, but so are some other wides and who but me will be using this at f1.4 for pictures of flowers, leaves and twigs?

:D

It is what it is and IMO it's ok stopped down a bit... but I didn't buy this lens expecting 85mm f1.4 bokeh of messy subjects, I bought it because it's a well made manual 35mm f1.4 that'll fit straight onto my A7 and give me a compact camera and lens combination and viewed like that... it's pretty much unbeatable at the moment :D

Not too many pictures though.

Maybe when we've all digested the mega news of the A7III and Siggy lenses we'll start using the gear again :D

A lens, well two. What I’m saying is the lenses are too expensive for me to invest in currently. As you will know, bodies don’t represent a great investment, lenses do.

From Kevin Raber at Luminous Landscape...

"I'm in Vegas and was at the announcement of the new Sony a7 III. It certainly is a nice upgrade from the previous version but not super groundbreaking. Rather than just post a here it as an article, I am going to shoot with the camera along with a number of content providers over the next few days at various locations and situations. In addition, I am collaborating with another YouTuber and making a video we will share on both our sites. When I get home I'll put together my thoughts on using the camera along with images made with it and share my thoughts on the camera and what segment of photographers this camera is aimed for."

And the lenses are there , at least up to 400mm.

Pick and choose. its not like the quality of these lenses are dog crap.

Pricey? Well it is what it is! look for third part solutions etc and see

What the sony 24-105 F4 lens like guys.. I not too fussed over a 2.8 as this is a walk about lens when out about... Just working out some lens price and what I need so far I thoug about..

Sony 50mm 1.8 the as they say it pretty sharp and it cheaper than the famous 55 ZA lens
Sony 24-105 F4
Sony 70-200 F4 i think it be unless i can find a used 2.8 at a great price..

That be my kit with the A7iii

Lol more questions mmmmm

I thought the kit lens was okay tbh.

I’d agree. A kit lens is generally a do it all walkabout lens and the 16-50 was ok for that. Not the most exciting aperture range but it’s very small/light and focuses quickly.

I didn’t say they aren’t.

Neither did I say they are dog crap.

Let’s be honest. After the A7III, anyone with an A9 it’s probably kicking themselves a bit - sat trying to justify to themselves why it is worth £2k more than an A7III (which to 99% of people, it isn’t)

The way I see it is, if I want to make any money out of photography I need gear that will do the job I need it to for the best money, allowing me to maximise profit. If I opened a chauffeuring business, I could go and get a Bentley or I could go and get an E class Merc - both would do the job I need it to and clients would be happy. The main difference is that one would be a bit more flashy and take me a hell of a lot longer to get a decent ROI.

I'm sorry Alan, but that lens is not sharp in the centre wide open, nothing like sharp and have to admit I wouldn't have been happy paying nearly £600 for a lens I couldn't use wide open.

Compared with the Sony 35mm F2.8, the Sony is sharp wide open and stopped down sharper than the Voigtlander, even the 50mm f1.8 sony is sharper in the centre wide open!

I know you love Voigtlander lenses, I do too, just not all of them. I remember lauding the arrival of the 75mm f1.8 only to be completely disillusioned on finding it was soft until f4, heck even the 75mm f2.4 was sharper at f2.8!

I haven't said this to be rude, far from it, it just seemed no one was prepared to say it out right.

PS The bokeh reminds me of an acid trip I had back in "73 lol.

On the new A7iii, there are some on many forums asking if people are going to be dumping their A7riii's & A9's for this.... can't they read and understand the A7iii is like an A9 junior model, stripped down if you like, its certainly no where near the equal let alone the better of those two camera's, so how much of an improvement over the A7ii is it? about the same as the A7riii is over the A7rii but with the boost of the newer BSI sensor. so 2x better AF, better frame rate, better processing speed, much better battery, better video and..... thats about it.

Certainly exciting for A7/A7ii users and those wanting a cheaper back up for their A9 but nothing that should see A7riii/A9 users throwing their dummies out of the pram or selling up in a hurry.

I did read someone somewhere else saying it was better than the A9 cos it has USB 3.1 whereas the A9 has USB 2.0 & Ethernet, I had to laugh at their niavity at not realising the advantages of Ethernet over USB when it comes to sports or reportage photography.

So what are you complaining about the lenses? just the price?

Some of the lenses are better then the canikon equivalent and as i said, you can use third party lenses from samyang and soon to be sigma for cheaper then Sony ones.

Why would any A9 users be kicking themselves? Does the A9 all of a s*** camera?

Does the IQ and its features degrade now?

Must be.

Better throw my A9 in the bin because the IQ and its features ahve degraded.

It can only do 1fps shooting now with about a 5 stop DR only. damm u sony!
