Tattoos?

Well what ive sad I'm gonna try is to get a fake one, and have it on my wrist for a week and see how i feel. If i feel ok, then thats the time to be considering it seriously.

Most men I know think they are crap.

No research ,no detailed sources,no *******s. I`m 43, most guys I know of my age ,loathe tattoos on women, call us old codgers if you must.

:)

Fracster: You are an old codger :):)

I am coming up to 64, have a tattoo and think that women with tattoos look fine*

Anthony.

* The location needs thinking about - in terms of different clothing/necklines/straps/etc. but apart from that...

Sounds like well... a sound idea.

"Tramp Stamps" as they are known in my kneck of the woods can be classy or trashy. It depends on what it is, where it is and how it looks.

If it is a crap design, it turns me off. If it is in a very common place (i.e. base of spine) generally it turns me off. If it is crap quality, it turns me off.

But if it is a good tattoo, then it can be anywhere (including base of spine) and not looky chavvy.

These days, I think I am the odd one out for not having a tattoo.

It it is a personal design, done well and it is for you, or only those close in your life, then I as long as you are happy, then go for it.

I don't care for them but its a personal choice, like body piercing. OTOH, I do think the multiple, randomly distributed, tacky tattoos - that look like DIY prison tats - displayed on acres of wobbling white blubber that I see now and again look repulsive!

FWIW, I do smoke and drink (very occaisonally), and my son (27) has a small tattoo on his back. I think he's forgotten its there.

In general I don't like tattoos whether on men or women. Tatoos do suit certain individuals however and those would be certain people with a certain look.
The tattoos suit the young lady below because they fit in with her look or style.
KatVonDee.jpg

However what happens if she wants to change her look or style at a later date.
At some point in the future there is going to be a lot of wrinkly little old ladies with tribal tattoos on the base of their spine.
I think the idea of a temporary tattoo sounds a much better plan in the long term. Alot easier and less painful to get rid of when you don't want it anymore.

some people said they would not be friends with someone who has a tattoo because they must smoke and drink if not more

That's mental. :cuckoo: I had a bottle of wine last night. These people must hate me. :'(

I say go for it. I like 'em, as long as they're tastefully done. That said, I wouldn't choose not to be friends with someone just because they had a tattoo that wasn't tastefully done. :p

One of the girls I work with has Winnie the Pooh on her shoulder. She's a nice girl though, and definitely not a chavvy slag.

I do like a tattoo or two, I have one on my foot a little daisy with greenery coming off it. To me it is like having a nice pretty summer flip flop on all year round. Is not going to look to awful when I am grey and full of wrinkles and makes my foot look pretty IMO. I also have one onthe back of my neck just below my colllar line (I am a teacher) - wanted it there so that I could have it on display so to speak if I wanted it and so that it could be covered up in an environment that it may not be appreciated it .. work etc etc ... this again is a personal one, its is a flower with a butterfly flying away from it.

I too wore fake ones for a long time before I commited to one - my first one was 10 years ago at 32 - not one to rush things lol

Well, I'm 46 and I think it depends on the tattoo and on the 'canvas' it's inked on...some girls look utterly stunning with tats, some look horrendous - but then those same girls might look equally horrendous without the ink - a good design usually helps...

I think if someone already looks good, a good tattoo won't lessen the appeal, but if someone only looks average or so-so then a bad design can definitely make them look a lot worse...

I happen to like lumbar tribal tattoos on girls, even though they're supposed to be slightly passe nowadays; especially girls with 'bum-dimples'...mmm...:naughty:

In the classic words of Ozzy Osbourne: 'if you want to be original, don't get a tattoo'

Agreed...

As for a wrist tattoo, how's this?

Im 17, and have never thought of wanting a tattoo, dont appeal to me in the slightest...

I'm not really that fond on tattoos on the arms for women full stop, but I base that from the poorly done ones I've seen and it's the forearm that bothers me as the placement looks more masculine, but well done tattoos are an art form and as long as the work is done well it doesn't matter where it is.

I stand by that even though most of mine if I could afford to have them removed I probably would, I can still appreciate something well crafted even though I was once a stupid teenager.

Squizz, if you want one go for it. But if you have to ask about it, to me, then there appears some doubt in your mind still. You could aslo re-invent the one on your back while tou're at it ;)
Personally it makes no difference if womn have tattoos or not. Its still the same person. I dread to think how much they cost nowadays though. I remember mine cost £4.50 when i had them done

ah yes paulie...but £4.50 was a lot of money in 1936 :p

I know it sounds odd but think about how it might look in a wedding dress, though a wrist one should be fine. I know someone who has really bad wedding pics because of her tat (and cos she's ugly and the tog was crap)

I wanna get my blood type done :D

If you think you want a tattoo, don't get one. If you KNOW you want one, THAT'S the time to get it. Think extra long and hard about any that aren't easily covered and are visible while wearing normal work clothing. Check VERY carefully on the real meaning(s) of any oriental characters and the possible significance of any traditional designs from other cultures.

I love tattoos and love them on ladies as well

If I were you I'd stick to the removable type.If you do decide to have one make sure its not something funny or that seems fashionable now but that may seem silly in 20 years time. Remember that, on your wrist, you will be looking at it for the rest of your life.

Just thought I'd resurrect this with the following story:

A lad I work with went to Scarborough for the weekend for a booze-up. I didn't think tattoo artists are allowed to brand drunken people, but hey-ho.

This is the result of asking a barmaid in every pub visited to draw him a doodle on a napkin, then him taking his favourite to the first tattoo artist they could find.

Firstly I think as soon as the needle hits yer arm your going to sober up.. Secondly the tattooist should be struck of any list he may be on.. Theres no way any decent tattoist would do the above :(

He's had three or four tattoos now (the others were pre-planned, however), and I know that he was drunk when he had one of the other ones done as well, at a Middlesbrough tattooist's. I don't know how he manages it.

I have a few and I know I used to have a couple before going in.. to help dull the pain.. never worked.. made it worse haha :) But theres a difference between that and a drunken tattoo... Oh well.. he will learn the hard way i guess :)

I think if that's what you want, go for it, but don't be hasty.

I wanted one from being 13. I waited til I was 25, it was the same thing that I'd wanted for the majority of that time, so I knew that it was what I wanted and I love it. I'm itching for more ink TBH (another one that I've wanted for a long time though.)

I have never seen the point in one on your back as you can't see it yourself.
.

The right way to get a tattoo was to get them done where no one could see them under normal clothes.. there used to be two types of tattoo artists.. the ones that would mark you anywhere you wanted, usual back street shops.. and the tattooist who would never do wrists, hands, faces blah blah.. and this was in the 70s :)

I know of a couple of places that won't do certain things, like fingers and names.
I'm not a fan of name tattoos TBH - someone I know is getting married next year, he has 4 children and still has his ex girlfriends name on his arm.

I swear this is the truth.. I got my first wifes name Julie tattood on my arm under a swallow.. My second wife got me to get a cover up job done which cost more than the original just to cover the name with flowers.... My current missus is called julie.... damm if I had just kept it hahaha :)

I'm afraid tattoos are a turn off for me. Daft question - what is the point of having a tattoo?

Its ok guys - I decided against it. Couldn't be doing with the possible regret - so if in doubt don't do it!

self expression.
For me personally it was having the choice to have something happen to my body (ie, having the picture on) and before that, self expression.

I guess you either understand what they are all about and will get one, or don't in which case you won't! I think there is a lot of following of fashion and wanting to belong to a group or rebelling in getting one. However, these days it seems to be making more of a statement in not having one!
