Slimberts 52, Week 26, "Beginnings" (Page 15)

That poem was a funny read for another northern Steve :)

The two photos so far are brill, didn't guess what the first was though. I thought it was an electric heater :bonk:

I Don't post much anymore due to focusing on studies and whatnot but i'll be keeping my eye on this thread.

Keep it up Damien ;)

I think this is one I,ll be watching Damien. Great humour and a man after me own heart. Photo,s not half bad either ,nice one!.....

Thanks everyone for taking the time to comment, it really is appreciated!

Glad to see you're still around Steven, I was thinking the other day how you'd gone quiet!! ;)

When I first heard this weeks theme I thought "at last...an easy one!", but the more I think about it, the harder it gets!! I'm determind to use as few jokers as possible, maybe even none at all! However, without doing something really boring or obvious, I just can't see me coming up with something to fit the theme!! :shake:

I refuse to give in yet though....there's still time!!

Hi Damien, I think you've made a great start to this :) I really like Week 1, it's a really effective abstract and fits the theme well :) I prefer the 1st poetry picture, I think the composition and lighting work really well

Good luck this week ... I'm struggling a bit too :)

I found this weeks theme harder than it first appeared, and for a day or two I genuinely thought I'd be playing my first Joker! But, at the 11th hour...I came up with this:

IMG_1838b.jpg

Hardly inspiring, but a theme fitting photo none the less which is more than I though I'd achieve this week!!

I do have another idea which I'll try and sort tomorrow but it involves a trip to the supermarket, so don't hold your breath!!

Thanks Kay, glad your enjoying it so far!

i am waiting for tomorrrows effort. colour and supermarket intrigues me. You taking out morrisons with a chainsaw?

Damien, I like it too. The depth of field makes it interesting. Oh and I am with Lynton on the supermarket/chopped theme......intriguing:D

Seriously Iain, it's not that exciting....my second idea was the only thing I could think of that I hadn't seen anyone else do....but that doesn't make it good, just different....and different is usually bad!!

But, it's worth a quid and ten minutes of my time!!

I look forward to your effort from tomorrow! <- if that makes sense? Lol. But I'm very intrigued... =)

Don't be, it's boring as hell!! However it should finally add some bright colours to my 52....things have been a little dull so far!!

very nice simple image that works beautifully, though very curious to see your post supermarket effort if it happens :naughty:

Thanks Yvonne! Much appreciated! :)

I have a whole hour before I go to work (again) so I'm taking the opportunity to visit as many 52's as I can.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking "logs" You've acomplished exactly what I was aiming for (and missed). The processing really brings out the wood and the DOF is pretty much spot on. In short, I hate you ;)

Amazing colours and I like the crop and composition. I find the pale leaves on the left just a little distracting and might have darkened them a bit, but all in all a lovely picture.

Love the DoF and the colours. The log almopst looks lke it's been stained especially for the shot.

where is it??????????

Strictly speaking it looks sawn ;) But I'm liking your week 3. Nice use of DoF, good framing and well processed

Thanks for stopping by....and thanks for lovely comment! Even the bit that says you hate me!! :D

Thank you loads!

The joys of processing!! I tried not to over do it with the colours and I think I pushed it just far enough....thanks for commenting! :)

where is it??????????

Calm down, calm down!! I'll give myself a deadline....6pm this evening....that good enough for you????!!!

I agree...it's not really chopped, but it'll do! Thanks for commenting!

I am liking week 3 alot, love the colours and the DoF, it makes it a really pleasing image.

Right, my second chopped photo. Happy now Lynton you bloody pest!!

Takes me back to my childhood being raised by my Grandma (who couldn't get enough of this stuff!), I haven't had any of this for years, but as I bought a tin earlier today for this photo, I'll be having it for dinner tonight!

As always, people of all abilities are welcome to comment on any of my photos. I'm thick skinned and won't sulk if you say you don't like them!! Please don't be scarred to comment!!

Damien, I am liking your theme here with this image. Do you have any images of the whole tin, just to add a bit of perspective to it? Perhaps the tin being chopped too? in a sort of a double whammy, two for the price of one "chopped" image?
I like the colours in your image too, well done, roll on week 4, bring it on!!

Thanks Iain, I was too lazy to set up any sort of background so got my macro lens out decided to just shoot the side of the tin. If I'm honest, I only added the 2nd chopped photo to stop Lynton moaning....he's relentless!! :p

Also, my three previous 52 photos are all lacking strong colours so I thought this might brighten things up a little!!

Looking forward to week 4!!!! :D

Some (you) might say Lynton's moaning, other's (me) would say he is encouraging you, supporting you, trying to bring out the best in you as a friend and fellow tog......am I convincing you with my positive slant?:D

No....I think he's nosey and impatient!!

But you're right, things like this 52, and impatient nosey parkers like Lynton are forcing me to use my camera more often, which in turn is making me more comfortable with my camera! I'm totally convinced that these things will improve my photography quite a bit this year....but time will tell on that one!! ;)

yeah very impatient, and extremely irritable and intolerant - especially coming through Norwich today with people on the roads, who clearly had no ability to drive!

Like No 3 pt 2 - wasn't what I was expecting...... was expecting a fruit salad of sorts...... dunno why...........

and impatient nosey parkers like Lynton are forcing me to use my camera more often
... hey you were the one who spotted the dogging site first, ok to be fair, we were unaware at the time, I was merely the chauffeur! :naughty::lol:

This weeks theme is going to fun! I'm not looking for clever twists on the theme....I'm going for it full on, which means getting in strangers faces with my fifty!! Bring it....!!

Chopped Version 1:
I like it. Strong colours, good DoF and very nice texture in the wood.
I was going to say that I didn't quite like it as much as week 1 and 2, purely because it's not the most inspiring subject . . . but I've gone back to it a second time and yeah actually I really do, genuinely like it. There's definitely something about it

Chopped Version 2:
That's very poorly disguised Spam isn't it? ;)

Very colourful and nicely shot.
Interesting labelling too. Just what exactly does the other 10% consist of . . .and I don't even want to think about the natural Spam juices :gag:
Hope you enjoyed your dinner :p

I like chopped version one... it's on theme, and works well. It does seem a little dark on the centre of the trunk... but could just be my lappy... Good textures though.

Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam... Spammity Spam.. Spammity Spam

Good strong colours and I like how you've shot it... but agree with Sarah... natural juices... YEUCHH!!!!

Glad this is over!! I thought "Street" would be fun, but I don't have the cojones for it....although I would like another go at it at some point in the future! :cuckoo:

Big thanks to Maddog Mark who met up with me today in Norwich while I was getting my Street photo! Cheers Mark!! :D

Anyway, here's my week 4 "Street" photo:

I like your street image Damien, especially the eye contact with the subject. Its not as straightforward as I thought it would be getting a street image. You have done well on this theme Damien.

Not as sharp as you'd like, but the colours and expression make it a nice shot, mate.

Thanks Iain! It's definitely harder than I thought it would be....

The eye contact is the thing that makes street photos for me, but it's the hardest thing to get right. A second too long and the shot becomes posed, which in my opinion ruins the shot.

I'll be giving street togs a lot more respect from now on!!
