Simon's 52 in 2022

I would have gone with the same shot you did Simon. Very interesting pattern of light leading the viewer in to further explore the image. An interesting story to go with it. Great work.

Thanks Bill. It’s a fascinating place, especially if you like a bit of history……..
I can’t get over how they take down old (often decrepit) buildings from round Wales and then rebuild them on the site. They’re currently rebuilding an old pub from the centre of Cardiff!

Lovely shot chosen! Mono would work too.

Cheers Dave. I did think about converting to B&W but didn’t bother in the end as I liked the subtle tones. I might have a fiddle with a mono tomorrow though. Thanks for the thoughts and feedback

As per @-Oy- 's suggestion, have done a convert to mono of my theme shot. Lifted the brightness a tad to bring out some details. I think I still prefer the warmer colour shot, though.

Colour for me too. There's not much colour in it but there's enough (IMO) to make the difference.

I would have chosen the shot you did too. The dappled light creates a nice image.

Your chosen shot is the one for me. I am conflicted though, as you have cloned out to improve the shot. Whilst I can't argue with the result, I don't agree with photo-shopping. But then where to draw the line, is macro-stacking for example acceptable. Still conflicted.

Thanks Alan.
I used to think post processing enhancements were somehow “cheating” but it’s not. If the photographer or the client want a virgin image, so be it, but I’m guessing many (me now included) see it differently. I suspect there aren’t many images on here that haven’t had some PP done to them. As you say it’s a fine line - I wouldn’t normally - although have done - use sky replacement for example. Depends what I want the final image for. 99.9% of the time it’s for my own enjoyment.

And it was a bloody great modern paint tin in a 16th century barn

I suspect you're right but I can assure you that there are some that have had nothing more than cropping and/or resizing. ;)

And there’s the rub….as Alan said, where to draw the line, or just accept that PP happens whether cropping/resizing, removing unwanted artifacts/objects, changing lighting, saturation etc etc.

You’ve picked the right one I think. I like how the light falls over the floor. Bob on the theme.

Heavy - last image was the one for me.

Light - definitely the colour version of the dappled light.

I don't think the B&W conversion of the light image did anything for me. But interestingly, I think doing the same to the 'Heavy' image might have.

Alley - you were well and truly skittled trying to get an up to date image, as you say it's strange they don't allow you to take a photo. Surprised at how far apart the skittles are, is a single shot strike still a possibility?

Heavy - I enjoyed reading the stories for each of the burial grounds. I like the first one the most out of your selections

Light - Lots of theme worthy images, my favourite Is the light falling on the arch

Every alley is different - this is the shortest, but the longest in this area is probably 4-5 times longer. Some have pastic pins, some wooden. Some are “splash alleys” where you might easily take 6, 7 or even 8 pins with one ball and some are dry (difficult to score on). I’ve been playing around 30 years and I’ve never seen 9 taken on one ball, but have heard of it being done.
Thanks for the feedback on the photos

What an interesting barn! I really love the dappled light too and think you chose the right one - I like the colour version. The underpass shot is great too.

Thanks Bee! The underpass was a real unplanned shot, just saw the opportunity - lift and shoot and worked out ok.

Week 9 - Damp

Blinkin' 'eck, week 9 already! And what a week. Felt miserable earlier this week, LFT on Tuesday and what do you know - after avoiding it for 2 years have finally succumbed somehow to the dreaded 'rona. No idea where I got it from, but as I'm in Wales that means a minimum of 5 days self isolating, so no out and about until either 10 days - next Wednesday - or I have 2 consecutive days negative LFT - todays (day 6 was positive, so ain't going anywhere until Monday.....).

With that in mind, AND Wales suddenly deceasing to come out of several weeks of monsoon rain my chances of getting out for shooting something damp have been severely hamstrung. At least it has stopped raining, which enabled me to get out into my garden to take the following shots.

Hellebore 1
Tricky blighters to shoot because the blooms face mostly downwards, but managed to snap this one

Hellebore 2
Was going to stick with the above shot, but I like the bloom that's still in bud here, so I decided to include this, although have overexposed the adjacent bloom a bit.

Daffodil
I like this one, with portrait layout, and rather then my the way the water is clinging on to the leaves

Snail
Little snail wandering over some perspective I had on my raised bed to use as a cloche. Was tempted to use this for damp & reflection tech, but will hang on to the tech for another time - hope I I haven't blown my chance!!! I like all the flower shots but this one's a bit different so this is the one I'll post.

I like your chosen shot - (s)he looks very purposeful. Perhaps a bit tight in the frame on the right, but I like it.

Thanks Paul. The positioning was deliberate. The original image had it centre frame, but I cropped it like this to be a bit “non-standard” and illustrate its journey…

I like your chosen shot. The flowers are lovely and you seemed lucky with all the droplets of water, but the snail fits the theme well. The trail and the reflection are a nice bonus.

Thanks Bee! No luck involved… ;)

The hard light in your chosen shot is really nice on the water droplets, but I really do like that snail, everything about it works.

It's a great photo and composition, but the subject (as an allotment-er) makes me shudder

Love the snail shot - not sure about the square crop though. I think I'd have gone letterbox.

As for the tech - you can hit it as many times as you like in it's active period.

Thanks Dave!

@Cobra - can I update my main theme post tag to include tech reflection, or have I missed the boat now I've posted it? No problem if I have.

No problem, Carry on :)
It looks as though Tim hasn't checked off this weeks just yet anyway.

Love your Light photos, plenty of lovely light shinning through.
