Should the sale of fireworks be banned?

Morning everyone :)
I think that they shouldn't be sold to the general public on safety grounds and because tbey frighten people's pets
it's a big deal for dog owners especially although our cats aren't too bothered
organised displays are fine tho
 
I'm not sure if this is serious or a wind up but there's worse ideas.

They are antisocial as they make an appalling noise and if you go to bed early, want to relax in your home they make noise. They may also disturb young children sleeping, pets wtc.

Perhaps more interesting the potential fire risks and personal injury that can happen due to fireworks is serious.

Part of me agrees with the OP part of me thinks it's a step too far as they effect about 2/365 days of the year.
 
Quite serious I did wonder if I would get ridiculed maybe I shouldn't post to get opinions on things:(
 
They are an evolutionary tool, the more stupid people who buy them for Nov 5th the less stupid people there will be on Nov 6th.
 
If we are going to start banning any and everything antisocial, where do we stop

But surely if we are going to start banning anything and everything, would it not be better to start with something like drugs that actually cost this country not only financially but also criminally, rather than picking on fireworks that affect a small minority of people and pets for a few days a year............... just a thought

if it was just one day a year you could make plans for it
it was on my mind because my mate nearly lost his dog yesterday when a firework went off and it frightened it and ran out into a busy road

If this kind of thing really does concern you, do you realise that you wouldn't actually be able to survive in some other countries? Fireworks are a rare occurance in the UK.

Am I right in saying that on the continent fireworks are more used in organised displays?

No.
An example. During the run up to Las Hogueras de San Juan, fireworks start being used from the beginning of June up to July. Street cabins are set up all over the city so kids can buy petardos "bangers", which you'll hear going off up to the early hours of the morning.

I travel throughout Africa all the time so I have a good measure on which to base my assumptions. It's a third world hole and I've never been there on holiday but I hear it can be quite a hoot. FYI, it's not only the Brits that party there but if that fits your myopic thinly disguised racism, then good for you.
 
Confused, are we seriously saying Spain is a 3rd world country? Really?
 
The more 'PC' term now is developing nation apparently...

While I agree fireworks can be dangerous in the wrong hands, you could say that about a hell of a lot of things... vehicles for instance. They make plenty of noise and disturb more people than fireworks and cause a lot more deaths.

Stupid people to stupid things, it's inevitable.

With regard to only professional displays only being allowed ...

Despite how this thread has developed, I have to say I agree with you. For me, its not necessarily the anti-social aspect of them (as has already been pointed out, its not something that happens all of the time over here), is purely from a safety point of view. A lot of the time, people will buy the biggest, fireworks they can find, and put on 'displays' for their friends and family in their back gardens with no real thought (or plan B) for the consequences if something were to go wrong. Ive found countless remnents of spent fireworks in my gardens over the years, and its not exactly a masive stretch to imagine the possibility of getting injured by falling objects, as well as the damage that can be caused to property and vehicles etc.

As it is only a few days a year, why not just go to a properly organised local event? My local council puts one on every year, and it has free entry, so im sure otherCouncils must do the same.
 
I'm all for fireworks and I own four border collies. They are ll used to the sound of bangs because of my rifles, but before hand they would crop themselves.

Just keep them inside on nights of fireworks and a lot of positive reinforcement when they don't react to the bangs.

The more fireworks the better. If pet owners don't like it then keep them in.

Yes that's what I was trying to say :)there's no need to buy fireworks when there's good displays locally each year

You could say that ALL nations are developing...so yes, Spain is a developing nation, as is Great Britain, as is the USA etc etc etc. Anyway, Spain is a member of NATO isnt it? It cant be defined as a thrid world country.

I think the sale of fireworks to brainless muppets should be banned. :-)
As for scaring pets....well they're still going to be scared by the noise from organised displays so nothing changes there.
On a lighter note my late GSD used to sit in the garden and literally watch fireworks. She'd watch thier path through the air and never once flinched at the bangs. She used sit outside during thunderstorms too, if permitted :lol:
The amount of people who would stride right up and have a go when I walked her as usual on bonfire night was staggering!
 
I did a firework display in our garden on wednesday evening.
I started proceedings at approx 5:30pm (when it was dark) so the time was certainly not anti social.
My son (3 years old) dis a good job of standing well back with his mum for safety)
The garden hose was on standby incase of any eventualities (none to report)
Afterwards i dampened all the used fireworks before disposing of the following day.

Our local firework display lasts 3 hours from start to finish, our son would get bored incthat space of time hence why we had our own personal display.

Personally i have no problem with them!
 
Maybe someone should have a word with all the illegal immigrants at Cialis and point them in the Spanish direction, their economy will be fixed in no time :ty:

As for fireworks, PITA and always will be, what sort of IQ is required to be entertained by a bang/flash/colour anyway :thinking:

Basically agree. I wouldnt mind so much if the private fireworks were only set off on the 5th and only between 5.30 and 8pm for instance. But no we have to have the army of ringpieces setting them off for weeks prior and after the 5th, at 2 in the morning etc etc. As there's no way to police this (a negative response crime), stop selling the bloody things.

A fairly low one hence why I like them. The more the merrier I say.
 
Banning fireworks wouldn't really work.

They're illegal in Ireland - fireworks must be licensed for import and restricted to a licensed professional operator only however, we (aherm) experienced a lovely display last weekend.

Its only going to cost you if you want to go and stand with everyone else. Im sure you could see the fireworks from somewhere outside the fence :p
