Yes yes, I know it's a "first world problem", but I forgot a pan of rice on the hob until the smell reached me 2 rooms away.
The rice came out easily enough, but the pan now has patches of burned areas inside and I can't for the life of me get them off.
It's a very good quality steel pan with a solid copper bottom.

Anyone have any helpful tips or ideas for restoring said pan to usefulness?

Thanks.

(ps...for those maybe wondering, the rice was to feed custody dog, who has a poorly tummy and is currently on a bland diet of chicken and rice......which I'm pretty sure she prefers to her normal food!)

Ruth, leave it with some soda crystals for a few days, hot hot water also helps, wire wool will eventually remove it, we have Aga pans and they can be a pain but considering they were £400 it wasn't wise to chuck them :)

Soak and scrub, I'm a bit useless for burning stuff at the bottom of pans :(

Tried many times. Not working.
Thanks though.

Cleaning pans. I have no idea what that is!!:D

do you have washing powder not liquid?

Ah well, fair enough

dunno what your on about ,i just get served hot dinners on a plate ,not got the faintest idea how she does it or how there cleaned afterwards .lifes to short for complications :whistling::whistling:

If the marks won't come off with wire wool, elbow grease and a chemical attack, then it's not going to affect or taint any food you put in there in the future. It it bothers you, close your eyes ;)

Try HERE.
I can't promise it works because I'm not quite as good as Brash at this kind of thing ( unfortunately I do know where the kitchen is ;) ) It's probably worth a try?

Oh, I know where it is alright. It's where I keep the dog!!

How no? Do you think I'm some insensitive, knuckle trailing yob with no soul!!

If the lady in question does think that, then she is entirely correct.

You may have to treat the burned areas as the new bottom of the pan.

Scourering pads work as a last resort, however I think it may be perminantly burned in.

:)

Drop in a bit of ordinary bleach 100% and a little hot water (50/50)and leave overnight then scrub. If it's still marked then learn to live withit!

Back on topic now!

Partially fill the pan (ensuring all blackened areas are covered) and then add a very generous amount of salt to the water (since I don't know the size of the pan, it is hard for me to recommend a quantity but you want the water to be very salty). Put it on the cooker and bring to the boil and allow the salt water to boil for 5 or 10 minutes then leave the pot to cool. Rinse and wipe clean with a potscrubber and it should look like new.

Repeat if necessary (you may need to scrub a bit too!)

Thanks. I shall try the washing powder...salt...bleach et al. One at a time of course.

I love reading about these boys attitudes to "wimmins work". You just know that one slap upside the head from the missus and they'd be licking the kitchen floor clean.

:lol::lol: Nae chance!!!!

Well here is the only chance they can pretend to be all tough and macho:lol:

Gently boil a can of coke.

Stinks, (avoid inhaling the steam...) but works a treat...

Now, you're the second person to suggest this today. That's very interesting. Thanks.

Similar to Richard's suggestion...

Bring a half bottle of cheap vodka to the simmer but DO inhale the vapour. Won't do much for the carbon staining but you'll not GAF! Scourer and elbow grease will eventually clear the burn.

Don't they just protest SO much? lol

When they go all machoesque i just imagine them all in flowery pinnys & marigolds.... those that have hair rollers too

The coke suggestion i'd be tempted to try first, thinking what it does to a 2ps etc might be worth a shot
