I can't argue if they are used correctly they can be effective.I suspect the mis-named choke chains (should be check chain) work well used the “Barbara Woodhouse” way, though from what I remember of her TV programmes she was mostly training owners not dogs.I remember seeing the Police training dogs in a park using those bloody things.
I've known them as check but I've always called them choke because I've rarely seen anyone using them correctly.
This also includes a so called Police dog trainer I once saw using one to train a dog in a roped off area in a park.
I read a Dr Roger Mugford book where he challenged the Police with training.
They used their methods and he used his, both for basic training.
He proved his method was easier and and quicker.
