Romanian Rescue Dogs

I suspect the mis-named choke chains (should be check chain) work well used the “Barbara Woodhouse” way, though from what I remember of her TV programmes she was mostly training owners not dogs.I remember seeing the Police training dogs in a park using those bloody things.
I can't argue if they are used correctly they can be effective.
I've known them as check but I've always called them choke because I've rarely seen anyone using them correctly.
This also includes a so called Police dog trainer I once saw using one to train a dog in a roped off area in a park.
I read a Dr Roger Mugford book where he challenged the Police with training.
They used their methods and he used his, both for basic training.
He proved his method was easier and and quicker.

using such things as choke chains,
(should be check chain)

As @sphexx they are check chains, and another thing we are going to disagree on,
if they are correctly fitted they lose as soon as pressure is rerleased, not sure if you can still buy them ?
All my dogs wore half checks out on walks, would never have a fixed collar on them
after one got caught in a hedge, had to dive in and cut him free
We used slip leads and no collars when working at trials, agility etc, it's preferred dogs don't wear any collars
when working so noting can get caught up

One disadvantage of those “half checks” or similar is that if left on the dog they can cause problems. I came across an apparent stray (rare in this area) that was going on 3 legs, having got a forepaw trapped in the chain.! Fortunately it was cooperative and I managed to release it,

Yep if they are too lose, mine only wore them when out with me, at home they didn't wear collars

I knew how they should be used but most people I've seen using them were clueless.
I don't think you can buy them anymore but I've used a halti since the early 90s.
