I genuinley hate internet type discussions regarding child molesters, it is never, never an excuse but.......................... The overwhelming majority of these people were once young and innocent children themselves who would never ever have grown up to be paedos themselves if some other P**** hadn't forced themself upon them, silly as it sounds, the overwhelming majority of paedos are victims themselves, its a vicious circle to which there really is no non barbaric solution.

You honestly believe that all child molestors, are past victims? So the kids that are getting attacked today will be P****'s too? right, let's nab them soon as they're attacked and put them away, before they become P****'s themselves .... I'm thankful that we live in a country where we still respect the lives of others even if we done like what they have done...
After all it's a slippery slope where oh all peadoephiles and murders should be put to death...okay all well and good a lot of people would likely find that a popular cause...but oh wait a few years down the line "well we exicute those for X and Y well I think that those who commit Z should also face death for their crime...
Extrapolate it further well this person was cause speeding for the fourth time, oh well we will amputate their legs so they cannot drive in the future....thankfully we live in an county were such punishment isn't happening...
I do believe the some criminals should face longer behind bars and I also believe for many prison is too easy...personally I would expand prison space so more could be imprisioned and I'd have it that all that was provided was the most basic of provision anything else should have to be earned

Matt I do think that's a rather idiotic statement, there really is no comparison between speeding and paedophilia, I think if we are honest
every has broken speed limits, some are just lucky not to get caught

While I do not agree that a society has the right to execute someone I do believe it has the right, and the responsibility, say to some individuals, "Your crime is so serious that you will be removed from this society forever."
I'd be happy to pay a few more pence in tax to ensure some criminals never walk free again but within a prison that provided only the basics.

Ingrid, taking that section on it own of course sounds stupid...as it loses the context of the section it was following....it's was saying that if you start the ball rolling down the slippery slope of corporal punishment for some crimes before long people will be trying for more draconian measures against lesser crimes

Probably because speeding is a crime most if not all can relate to as something they have done themselves...and I'm aware what we used to do....we used to have a death penalty too, and the suggestion in this thread seems to be to go back to that for even more crimes that it last existed for...very much turning the clocks back there....maybe we will even start to duck witches in the village duck pond again

Not really it's a principle, and I agree with him. That minor offence can end someones life or alter it to their usually someone quite innocent and does frequently. It's only minor because you see it that way. To some pedophiles, sex with children is not a 'crime', and before you start, no I don't agree with them, but a 'natural expression of love'.

1000's of people speed daily, you only have to travel any route to see that.
I'd be surprised if 1000's of people were injured or killed daily.
Paedophiles on the other hand, select their victim,
and then carry out calculated damage both mentally and physically, each and every time.
There is absolutely no correlation what so ever.
Nothing natural about it.
Even taking that down to its most basic primeval roots
Sex has been there to perpetuate the species, ever since the dawn of time.
There can be no logical rhyme or reason, to their behaviour, even at base level.

We did have the death penalty in this country and there wasn't any draconian penalties for lesser crimes then, so no real reason why there should if the death penalty was reintroduced, which I doubt it ever would.
Actually their are lots of children who faced awful abuse,who never when on to be abusers this is a myth,most abusers just say this when they are caught,hopefully to get an lighter sentence.
I should add I have worked in the law and mental health,and with abuse victim,I don't where your other half got her figures from,but they are wrong.

I don't want to see the death penalty bought back, ok so you could argue that in this day age mistakes would be less likely
but even 1 is too many.

Ah so more towards the stance of countries like North Korea et al where questioning the rulers can see you incarcerated, sounds just wonderful...
At the point where the death penalty was removed from the options of punishment the courts had we had given up all other more draconian punishment, but you only have to look at relatively recent history to see some what now would be considered draconian punishments were common practice...
Such as maybe look up the origins of the phrase "to run the gauntlet"
See we are not all that far apart in reality...see my post earlier in the thread in reference to prisons, and the resources inmates have while there

Simon, i didnt say that the majority of those who were abused went onto be abusers, i said the majority of those who do abuse were once abused, thats totally different to what youre saying, as for my other half being wrong, well she has direct access to records which tie offenders within the mental health system to times when they were treated as victims.
Again I say that is rubbish,I did a long study with an leading clinical psychologist on this myth after looking at case study after case study,we found nothing to support it.
As I said an lot of abusers will say they have been abused,I have seen this time and time again in courts,where the abusers,after meeting with their legal representation are encouraged to say this to help their case.
A couple of leading Doctors & Psychological in this area have now written books about this,people who abuse do so because that is their sexual preferred,and they simply refuse to believe they are doing any harm or do anything to modify their behaviour.
And yes working in the metal Health system at times I have come across this same myth.

Simon, my OH works directly with clinical and Criminal pyscholigists, the records on file are fact, their initial assesment as im sure you know will also include a clinical background check and thats where the figures come from, of course there are many youngsters who never get included in the system because cases were never reported, although these days its becoming more and more prevelant that cases of child abuse are reported, its not so long age that it was covered up by immediate family members due to the percieved shame it brought on the family and the fact that it was also another family member committing the offence.
Whats the solution though, regardless our differing opinions and the many other opinions, whats the solution. There are 2 seperate private studies in the North which are currently monitoring 20 seperate victims of abuse from the late 80's, the victims are monitored regularly and have regular open self help sessions with a number of therapists, 25 years on and NONE of these victims have offended themselves, or to be cynical, none have been caught offending.
Is this just luck or is it because as young victims they werent demonised and just left to fend for themselves but have been given lifelong support and understanding.
I do whole heartedly agree that there are however some evil sexual predators who cant be helped
Oh and in my initial post i said i hate discussing this subject on internet forums, the reasons can be clerly seen why in some of the replies above, highly paid and highly respected professionals who deal with these issues day in and day out dont yet have the answer so how can we ever hope some nut jobs on a camera forum could possibly have a sane solution is beyond me.
Im not drawing myself into this any further, its just not a topic im comfortable with.
