weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

Andy, sorry not popping in earlier...

Natural, of the two I prefer the first... more interest going on, although I have to say, the clean and well defined flame points in the second are good

Age, Both are good, but I think I prefer the first... it has a better representation, to me, of the intended Ice Age, the letters appear to be more afloat in the ice.

Spread, both fulfil the theme well... I'm torn like you I think.. the gritty nature of the mono really does a nice job on the floor, but I think some of the "spread" gets a little lost with the reduced separation. So, for the theme, gonna have to go with the colour.

I like the PoV on this one and the composition works well. I'd go for the colour version as I think the two colours compliment each other nicely. My only minor crit would be to lighten the small shadowed areas on the floor to the left and right of the plant (not as noticeable of the B&W version)

Has to be the black and white for me the shadows on the colour shot are a bit distracting

Age - another vote for #1. #2 has good composition, however the highlights seem blown, maybe the PPcould be pulled back a bit.
Spread - Hmmm like you I cant decide, both shots have merit. The B/W appears to make the plant stand out against the wood blocks, however green on brown is the ideal combination of colour. Well thought out for this theme.

Hmm, I'm the same I think, b+w looks good, but the colour version certainly separates the 2 and the colours look good together, so I shall say number 2 also.

Hi Andy

I tend to agree with you, a tough choice between the two, the grain and texture is so much clearer in the B&W conversion - Love the composition and pov

Thanks for the comments

I did see the shadows left and right on the colour version but couldn't get rid of them in post for some reason. The edited area came out a grayish colour

Cheers.

'ello all.

Well another salute to one of my favourite artists, Andy Goldsworthy.

Not as good as it was....I started to move it to the floor and the right hand side moved a bit. No time to fix.....might revisit if there is a reshoot.

Cheers all.

Hi Andy, I'm a few weeks behind yet again!

Natural, I like the movement in #1 but the simplicity of #2 wins it for me:thumbs:

Age, I didn't realise it was set in ice initially, it's very clever. I think I'd like to see a colour version though, as it's 'ice age' then the ice bright white and blue I think would suit with a slightly wider shot of number two in colour:thinking:

Spread, I really like the B&W conversion as it brings out the detail in the diagonal flooring  But I like the colour of the leaves as they get a bit lost in B&W! Maybe a tiny splash of SC on the leaves

Spread 3 is superb though

I like your 3rd shot for spread but I think I'm going to go for no.2 as it fits the theme better I think - maybe if the 3rd one was more spread out? lol

anyway, the B&W is a nice image but I prefer the colour one because it just looks better (hard to define why) :)

Andy, my votes favourite first is #3 by a mile, followed by #1 and then #2.

We have 'spoke' about Andy Goldsworthy before and yours is an excellent take on his style.
Just everything about it I love. The bright vivid leaf colours through how you have lit and composed it, fantastic

#1 I prefer over #2 as it has loads more detail in it. #2 has shadows left and right edges of the frame which are a little distracting whereas these don't seem to be present in the B&W conversion.

Three images for the theme, good work rate there Andy.

Hi Andy,

Spread - Out of the two plant shots, I prefer the B&W because it has brought out the texture in the floor. I have to say though, I love the leaves. Fab colours and to me, a more interesting shot.

Spread - the potted plant on floor fits the theme and the comp is good. I prfer the colour version as it seems to fit better and the limited colour palette helps the plant to stand out. But the 2 shadow areas do detract unfortunately and thes do not show up in the mono.

#3 - the leaves - is v good as the spread of colour also tells the tale of the changing seasons. Well handled lightng as the colours ( partic the golds ) make it difficult.

hey up mister

you've been a busy bug again :)

B&W for me without a doubt although I do like the colors in the color version (strangley enough:lol: ) The shadows in the color one just let it down it slightly . Great mono conversion , really brings out the texture in the wooden floor...how many people stopped & asked what you were up to ? Just have this image of you hanging over a balcony

Like the leaves shot but it doesn't say Spread so well to me , really well laid out & though about though

Cheers, Lynne and thanks. #3 was a bit of an indulgence but if I see a connection to Andy Goldsworthy I'll take it.

nice one, really like that :) if you'd got both heads exactly straight on to each other it would look like that optical illusion picture

excellent silhouette very nicely black to take a leaf from your book maybe crop the right a little ;)

Cheers, all.

Not my best but I'm getting prepared for a Photo24 on Saturday. Photograph every hour for 24 hours, all film related.

I like the mono version of spread (week 43), the floor and the chosen angle I find very appealing for some reason; I cannot put my finger on it.

Now that leaf, very very nice.
I'd be well chuffed if that was my idea, I'll have to check out the artist now to see if you've done if justice!

.........OK, had a look but couldn't find that leaf. Found the possible inspirations, but not the leaf.
So now I'm thinking you've created your own take using his idea and I'm very impressed.
Well done you

Cheers. Neil, mine was inspired by Andy G.

For me, it's the angle of the floor thanks I like.

I've just ordered a DVD http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rivers-And-Tides-Goldsworthy-Working/dp/B000FIHJ74, you can borrow if you like his stuff.

Cheers.

Just nipping through your thread Andy...NOT stealing any ideas for my 365 .... Lol!! Brilliant images but why do you stick to a 52...when the 365 is begging you for. a potd !!! you never know...we may finish our 52s at the same time..... Can't wait for your photo24 Saturday!!

Together - good idea for theme. Good blacks and nice angles on the heads. Agree with Allan that a slight crop of right would improve it.

Cheers, Allan, I did try a few post crops but none felt right. Possibly one of them images that I should have composed better  in camera.

Cheers, Kev, 365, I'd really like to do one but it would be unfair on Jackie and Isabelle. If I did one I'd be compulsive and I'm already spending too much time with camera.

I've got around 40 ideas for my Photo24 and have even got buy in from Jackie and Isabelle :D I do feel its gonna be harder than I expect it to be. Going to have to be quite in the early hours and a pack of Red Bull may be in order.

Cheers.

hi Andy, another good idea from you with good blacks and whites! I also would have preferred to see a little off the right hand side.

Good luck with tomorrow!!

Hi Andy. Love your last submission for spread, good composition and changing colours.
Together. Great idea for theme but looks a bit unbalanced. Although you say crops have been tested, still think a lot off the right would work.

Fits the theme and has clean whites and blacks. The framing adds a bit of interest to the image.

like this idea, fits the thme perfectly and tells the together story very well

Thanks, all.

Can't hang around, I'm on hour 8 of my Photo24 (see link in my signature :D)

The blacks have been handled well although I agree about the shadow. I seen shots of smaller kids in suitcases so Isabelle did well fitting in. If it was one of mine I'm afraid I couldn't have resisted zipping the thing up

thats very funny and a bit surreal, that poor child now wheres the number for social services
